Chapter 87: The Inevitable Deathmatch 1
Jin Bo underestimated Bald Kid's shamelessness, and Chao Yifan also didn't expect him to be so fierce.
At the moment the fence collapsed, the Zombies crowded at the entrance surged forward like a tidal wave, charging towards Jin Bo, who was rushing in with a knife. In an instant, Chao Yifan turned back and ran into the abandoned cave. Once inside Deep Cave, he swung his knife backward, taking down a few Zombies that followed him.
Xiaomi and the others didn't open fire but stepped forward to help clear out the pursuing Zombies. Sneaky hid on one side of the passage, hoping to see those guys fall into chaos, but it didn't turn out to be the big mess Chao Yifan had anticipated.
In Chao Yifan's imagination, there was a pair of roller skates... No, in his mind, even if Jin Bo could suddenly stop and turn back, this restless group of Zombies would follow closely behind him into the passage; if that kid got buried in a pile of Zombies and chewed to bits, that would be even better.
But reality was different; Chao Yifan still underestimated these Cave-Dwelling Rascals.
Jin Bo, wielding the Butcher's Knife, showed no signs of hesitation. At the moment the Zombies were unleashed, his long knife traced an arc through the air with a phantom-like motion. The blade swiftly swept through the air, sending a row of Zombie heads flying. Several headless bodies erupted in fountains of blood, creating a spectacular scene.
The blood sprayed all over Jin Bo as he held his knife horizontally in front of him. With each swing of his long knife, gusts of wind followed. The surrounding Zombies seemed to rush into an airplane propeller; limbs and blood splattered everywhere as the leading Zombies fell in droves at a visible speed.
"Fire at will!" Jin Bo shook off a layer of blood from his blade and slashed backward before entering the bright passage with a roar like a tiger.
Chao Yifan and the others initially thought those guys behind the passage were just human decorations. They were surprised when Jin Bo shouted, and suddenly several bursts of sparks lit up in the passage. The Zombies charging in faced another disaster as they were shot into a honeycomb by Steel Balls and Iron Sand.
"Damn." Chao Yifan was convinced; no wonder that kid dared to swagger around with a knife—he was indeed skilled. Just look at how he wielded that big knife for so long, leaving behind a field of broken corpses while he himself didn’t even seem to break a sweat.
"You guys take Uncle Two away." Jin Bo glared coldly and instructed several young men to lift Uncle Two, escorting Zheng Qiutong and Old Timer back while leaving five guys behind, including Red-Haired Shamate. It seemed they planned to wipe out all the Zombies before going after Chao Yifan.
"We should retreat too; only fools would challenge him one-on-one." Chao Yifan felt cold sweat trickling down his back. Being bold didn’t mean being stupid; he didn’t have the guts to confront Jin Bo while carrying the Great Cleaver.
"Wait a minute; we finally let the Zombies out—wouldn't it be a shame if they got wiped out like this?" Xiao Wei rested his Rifle on his shoulder and aimed distantly.
"Once you fire your gun here, more Zombies will come from behind." Xiaomi gave him a smack on the head: "Are you stupid?"
"It doesn't matter; with Girl leading the way, we can circle back. Anyway, these Zombies are theirs; let them scatter back!" Chao Yifan relished the chaos; since Zombies were slow, if they focused on escaping, no matter how many there were, they wouldn’t catch up.
"Can we hit from this distance?" Chao Yifan was worried about this, and Jin Bo's impressive display with a long knife had left him feeling somewhat injured. He kept urging Xiao Wei to take down Jin Bo.
"He keeps moving, making it hard to hit. The ones behind are the targets," Xiao Wei squinted one eye, leaning against the cold side of the corridor. As a gap appeared among the rushing Zombies, he decisively pulled the trigger.
"Bang!"
The sound echoed through the corridor, amplified dozens of times, reverberating like thunder in the maze of passageways.
Across from them, a young man was frantically trying to push iron sand into a ceramic container when a sudden force struck him. His entire body was yanked backward, blood splattering all over Red-Haired Shamate.
Jin Bo turned abruptly; the young man had been shot in the throat, nearly having his neck torn apart by the bullet. Blood flowed freely as he fell, lifeless.
The Zombies that had just squeezed out from behind the fence were startled by the gunfire and charged in with furious roars. More Zombies were drawn in by the pool of blood illuminated by the bright corridor, surging in with heightened excitement.
Even Jin Bo, with his extraordinary strength, could no longer withstand the overwhelming tide of corpses. He swiftly decapitated two Zombies and gestured for the four young men behind him to run quickly.
"Bang! Bang!"
"Tap tap tap tap tap!"
Unexpectedly, just a minute after both groups had retreated, gunfire erupted again within the corridor! The entire Air Raid Shelter was thrown into chaos!
"Ah? Are they fighting among themselves?" Although Chao Yifan's Great Cleaver couldn't match Jin Bo's strength, it was more than enough to deal with these Zombies. After a flurry of strikes, half of the Zombies in the dark corridor were taken down. The group held their breath and hid in a dilapidated side passage, quietly waiting for the Zombies to wander past.
"It's not a local gun; it's Zhuzi Brother," Xiaomi's expression changed: "How did they get in there?"
"It's a mess," Chao Yifan felt a chill run down his spine as he counted on his fingers: "There are four of us here; Zhuzi is firing. Where are Jiang He, Song Yao, and Ming the Great Hero?"
"We need to help! Those guys have retreated; Zhuzi is in danger!" Xiao Wei pulled out a machete and gripped it tightly. "Yi Fan, you and Girl go out first."
"What's going on?" Chao Yifan shook his head and stepped forward, catching sight of several dark figures rushing toward him. He swung his knife with a fierce motion.
The sound of flesh tearing echoed as a few bodies collapsed to the ground.
The four of them immediately returned to the intersection they had just passed, waiting for the zombies to fully enter the passage before cautiously following behind.
At that moment, Zhuzi and Ming Junwei felt like they had bitten into bitter herbs; they had expected to ambush from behind, but as soon as they turned the second corner, they saw a group of people charging toward them.
They were no more than a hundred meters apart. Just because others couldn't recognize Face didn't mean Old Timer was blind. He swiftly snatched a dirt gun from one of the young men and fired without hesitation.
"Duck!" Zhuzi tackled Ming Junwei to the ground, feeling the iron sand pellets tear into his back, leaving him bloodied.
Ming Junwei gritted his teeth and pushed Zhuzi off, rolling to the side and firing back. A burst of gunfire sent their attackers sprawling.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Though the dirt gun was slow to reload, it could unleash a barrage of steel balls and iron sand in one shot. Ming Junwei barely managed to dodge, rolling on the ground only to feel a searing pain in his thigh as if it were on fire, agony radiating throughout his body.
Zhuzi's eyes widened in desperation as he dragged Ming Junwei back around the corner. The group ahead also halted, rustling as they began reloading their weapons.
Jin Bo led his team in retreat when he suddenly spotted the forces ahead.
