Chapter Eighty-Nine: The Inevitable Deathmatch 3 0

It must be said that Jin Bo, besides having impressive skills, was also quick-witted. Although the accidental killing of Xiuer had momentarily stalled his thoughts, he quickly regained his composure. He could distinguish between what was urgent and what was not; even the immense sorrow that would be unbearable for most people was something he could set aside for the time being. 0

They had put some distance between themselves and the Zombies, but the passageway was lit with torches, and the Zombies were drawn to the heat and sounds. It would only take a moment for them to catch up, especially since they had no intention of abandoning the Air Raid Shelter. Jin Bo glanced at the passage number; after two more forks, they would reach Shelter No. 4, which housed women and children—completely defenseless and only capable of causing chaos. If the Zombies entered Shelter No. 4, it would undoubtedly result in massive casualties. 0

Jin Bo instructed a few young men carrying Uncle Two, along with Old Timer and Zheng Qiutong, to continue ahead while leaving behind eight terrified youths. 0

"Uncle, listen to Uncle Two and head to Nantang Township," Jin Bo said as he took a torch. "Be careful on the way." 0

"I understand. You too—take good care of Uncle Two," Old Timer replied solemnly as he hoisted the crying Zheng Qiutong and jogged away. 0

Uncle Two's condition was not good; after briefly regaining consciousness, he fell back into unconsciousness. Fortunately, his wounds had stopped bleeding. Three or four young men took turns carrying him back to Shelter No. 4. Following Jin Bo's orders, they evacuated the crowd as quickly as possible, taking nothing with them and heading straight for the grain storage cave—the same one where Song Yao and Pan Luo had initially been held. 0

The remaining young men looked pale; they hadn’t shaken off the Zombies by much. The chaotic footsteps and frantic roars echoed throughout the passageway. These Zombies had been locked up in Shelter No. 1 for over a month and were likely starving mad. 0

"Stay alert!" Jin Bo's gaze swept over their wan faces. "Calm down. Each of you grab a torch and choose a dead-end tunnel to lure the Zombies into!" 0

"What?" The young man who had been slapped earlier exclaimed in shock. "There are so many dead-end tunnels; luring Zombies in there is just asking for death!" 0

"There are plenty of dead-end tunnels, and the Zombies won't be able to keep up with you. Just lead them in circles," Jin Bo replied coolly, pressing his lips together. "I know it's dangerous, but it's our only option. We’re short on manpower; if the Zombies follow us into the residential area, I don’t need to explain what will happen." 0

"Understood. Little Gold, you're skilled; we’ll trouble you to look after our families," Red-Haired Shamate was the first to grab a torch, casting a deep glance toward Shelter No. 4. He understood all too well that he might never have another chance to return. 0

"I'll do my best; you all try to spread out the Zombies. With me here, not a single Zombie will get past," Jin Bo said firmly as he patted Shamate's shoulder. "Run fast, create some distance, and throw your torches into the dead-end tunnels. Though there are many dead ends, they’re all interconnected—be careful and come back alive." 0

Red-Haired Shamate nodded and ran toward a dead-end tunnel with his torch and machete, waiting for the Zombies to chase after him. 0

The others remained where they were, exchanging glances filled with hesitation. 0

"You... you can't hold this place alone," Big Guy said uncertainly, still bearing the mark of a slap on his face. 0

"I can hold my ground, but it depends on how many of you scatter," Jin Bo said, his impatience growing. "Those willing to go should hurry up; those who value their lives can leave and disappear from my sight." 0

"You don't have the authority to drive us away," a round-faced young man said, standing beside a tall figure. Though somewhat timid, he voiced the thoughts of many: "We don't have your skills. It's so dark in that abandoned tunnel; what if we get lost? You're just relying on your own abilities and want us to be cannon fodder, aren't you?" 0

"Is that what you all think?" Jin Bo narrowed his eyes at the others. The young men he looked at quickly lowered their heads. 0

"Fine, do as you wish," Jin Bo said with a wry smile and turned to walk toward Red-Haired Shamate. 0

"Hey, Jin Bo, what should we say if Uncle Two asks about us?" the tall one called out, craning his neck. 0

Jin Bo smirked slightly and turned back to give him a look that said he was foolish. The tall man felt uncomfortable under his gaze and instinctively looked away. 0

"Do as you please," Jin Bo replied without elaborating further. As he passed by Red-Haired Shamate, he advised, "Just run forward later; don't look back." 0

At the end of the passage, shadows began to flicker as frenzied Zombies emerged from the archway. 0

Jin Bo tapped the hilt of his knife against the archway wall and raised two fingers to his lips, letting out a sharp whistle. 0

'Hissing... Hiss hiss hiss...' 0

The Zombies heard the distant call and surged forward in a chaotic mass. 0

"Prepare yourselves," Jin Bo said, lowering his stance and signaling to Red-Haired Shamate by the entrance of the abandoned tunnel. The young man swallowed hard, beads of sweat pouring down his face. 0

As Jin Bo's long knife once again unleashed a spray of blood, several young men in the center of the passage instinctively turned and bolted in the opposite direction. 0

"Run!" Jin Bo shouted as he stabbed a protruding Zombie with his blade and pushed aside Shamate, who was helping him fight off the undead. 0

The red-haired youth let out a loud shout, drawing a horde of Zombies toward him as he sprinted deeper into the abandoned tunnel. The tide of Zombies split instantly, with some rushing into the tunnel while Jin Bo felt immediate relief from pressure. He quickly retreated a short distance, loaded five rounds into his weapon, and fired a shot. A portion of the Horde of Zombies fell, but they were quickly replaced by more Living Dead from behind. 0

Jin Bo sprinted a few steps and leaped up, stepping onto the archway wall to propel himself into the air. His long knife spread open like a fan, and wherever the blade passed, blood and flesh flew. 0

In the distance, he vaguely saw a bald head flash at the end of the corridor. 0

Fatty Three was completely broken down, his limbs weak as he knelt in the Artemisia Bush, watching helplessly as a girl shoved Liang Bao's head into the wheel of a cart. 0

He wanted to rush to Liang Bao, but his legs had no strength at all. He didn’t dare make a sound; even if he screamed at the top of his lungs, the people in the Air Raid Shelter wouldn’t hear him. 0

The ocean kept dragging him backward. After a while, realizing he couldn’t budge Fatty Three’s weight, he had no choice but to abandon Dachun. 0

“Jin Bo, hurry up…” 0

This was Fatty Three's last thought before he fainted; the scene unfolding before him shattered his fragile nerves completely. 0

Cao Liang's leg injury was neither too severe nor too light; it was a fracture that required rest, yet he still had some mobility. Thus, his ambush succeeded. 0

Liang Bao, lost in ecstasy, clearly hadn’t noticed the two people behind the earthen wall. Since hiding in the cave with Uncle Two, he hadn’t been able to touch a girl again. The few girls he occasionally brought back were never within his reach; he could only gamble on luck each time he went out for supplies. Perhaps heaven was smiling upon him today, granting him such a beauty. Liang Bao felt as if his soul was about to fly away. 0

An Zheng was not dead, but she had endured a frontal collision while in the driver’s seat. If it weren’t for her habit of wearing a seatbelt, she might have broken her neck in that instant of flipping over. 0

The unconscious female doctor offered no resistance. 0
