Chapter 141: Waiting for the Sun to Rise (Part 2) 0

"Separated?" The graduate student couldn't quite believe it and asked, "What happened?" 0

"Nothing more than that." Jiang He sighed and said, "Otherwise, do you think I’m just here for no reason?" 0

"Then..." The graduate student hesitated for a long time, feeling a wave of disappointment. Although encountering Jiang He was unexpected, he never thought that Jiang He had actually gotten separated from the main group. 0

"We'll talk about that later; separation is temporary. I'm looking for them," Jiang He noticed the disappointment in his voice and proactively changed the subject. "So, were you two the ones who saved us?" 0

"It was a coincidence," Yin Nuo replied softly, her voice not as bright as Weiwei's but pleasant to listen to as she spoke slowly. She said, "My sister and I ran into Brother Bear on the road; at first, we thought he was a zombie." 0

"Oh? Comrade graduate student, I still don’t know your name. Little Bear?" 0

"Uh, my last name is Xiong, and my first name is Ba, like 'Overlord'." The graduate student seemed a bit distracted at this moment, lowering his head to stroke Tabby Cat, his voice dropping slightly. 0

"Xiong Ba?" Jiang He gave a thumbs up. "Great name! Uncle Xiong Ba, we will find the main group; don’t be so down." 0

"No, no." The frail scholar with a rugged name blushed slightly and sighed. "It's just a bit unexpected; honestly, I'm very happy to have met you." 0

"That's good to hear." Seeing that he was still in decent spirits, Jiang He felt relieved and asked, "Let's wrap up the reminiscing for now and talk about something serious. Was it you who was wandering around outside this afternoon?" 0

"That was me..." The graduate student smiled awkwardly and said, "I didn’t recognize you then; if I had known, I wouldn’t have run away." 0

"Exactly! Now what are we going to do being stuck here?" Weiwei huffed angrily. The zombies outside wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon; with the windows and doors aligned in a straight line, there was no way to escape. 0

Jiang He pondered while pinching the cigarette butt and asked, "Where were you before? What brought you here this afternoon? Is this your shelter?" 0

"Sort of. We stayed on the other side of Wheat Field for a few days. There’s an abandoned oil well courtyard there with a well in it, which makes it convenient for water," Yin Nuo explained. "Actually, we just discovered this place too; when we came here the first day, we found the door locked and thought someone was inside." 0

"You really are law-abiding citizens," Jiang He couldn't help but chuckle. Locking the door and giving up, they truly were a few innocent good kids. 0

Jiang He got up and pulled back a small gap in the window curtain. Outside, all the Zombies were crowded around the house, and there were quite a few pressing their faces against the glass, howling at the sky. The moment he opened the curtain, a decayed face poked through, causing Jiang He to break out in a cold sweat as he hurriedly dropped the curtain back down. 0

"Do you know what's going on with these Zombies?" The Zombies outside pulled Jiang He out of his moment of nostalgia. He remembered he still had some bullets that Shaoshan had given him, so he quickly sat on the bed and emptied his pockets. 0

"I'm not sure. We stayed at the oil well Courtyard for a week, and there were occasionally Zombies on the road, but we never saw any in the fields." The graduate student returned to normalcy and gathered with the two girls. Seeing Jiang He skillfully loading bullets, they held back their admiration and one of them said, "You guys are impressive. The three of us have been hiding and scared all along, but just meeting you makes us feel much safer." 0

"Brother Bear, you can't be serious," Weiwei rolled her eyes dramatically, mercilessly tearing down their facade. "We just saw your talisman and got surrounded by Zombies!" 0

Jiang He pretended not to hear as he continued loading ammunition. "Do you know where we are? Are we still in Shanxi?" 0

"Yes, we're not far from Xiangning County," Yin Nuo tilted her head in thought. "Where are you planning to go?" 0

"First, I need to get on the highway. I've been circling around this countryside for ages without finding an exit." 0

"This place is less than ten kilometers from the G22 highway..." Weiwei initially wanted to mock him but thought better of it when she saw everyone deep in thought. She couldn't help but ask, "Shouldn't we think about how to get out of here first?" 0

"Don't panic." Jiang He filled his handgun with bullets and asked, "Which of you can use a gun?" In response, three heads shook vigorously like rattles. 0

"Let me think." Jiang He borrowed a cigarette from the graduate student and sat cross-legged on the bed to ponder strategies. The graduate student clearly had some blind admiration for their group; although Jiang He had been cold towards him initially, it was evident that he held them as role models now. Jiang He couldn't deny this; after all, having more allies was better than having more enemies, and the graduate student was indeed one of them. At least it was him who led them down from Power Station to the foot of the mountain. 0

Though he couldn't fully trust them yet, having an extra pair of hands was always good. Jiang He paced back and forth between the living room and storage room, carefully observing if there was anything useful in the house. Seeing his serious expression, the graduate student and the two girls also entered a state of readiness. They weren't sure what Jiang He was planning, but his confident demeanor suggested he already had a plan. 0

Jiang He felt a mix of frustration and vanity; on one hand, he needed to escape, while on the other hand, he was being idolized by the oblivious graduate student as their leader. But vanity aside, how exactly should they escape? On the surface, he appeared calm and collected, but inside his mind was blank. 0

The house only had two rooms; they could even disregard the storage room since it was barely big enough for one person—four people would feel cramped inside. It was a standalone house with no backyard or kitchen, which also meant no Chimney. Thus, any plans to escape via the roof had to be shelved. 0

After pacing back and forth many times, his initial calmness gradually turned into irritation. Jiang He had to admit his helplessness; without Ming Junwei's help, he simply couldn't make any moves. 0

Yin Nuo noticed the change in Jiang He's emotions and timidly asked, "Should we wait a little longer?" 0

"Wait? Wait until when?" Weiwei didn't want to stay there for another second. Outside the window, there was a group of monsters that could tear you to shreds. Who could sleep peacefully inside? 0

"Wait until dawn." Jiang He stopped in his tracks, a glimmer of hope flashing in his eyes. 0

"What?" The others didn't quite understand. 0

"Wait for the sun to rise." After pondering for a moment, Jiang He plopped down on the bed and said, "You’ve been here for a week and haven't seen so many Zombies, right?" 0

The three nodded vigorously, confirming that was indeed the case. 0

"You usually go out during the day to scavenge for supplies and stay at the camp at night?" 0

"Yeah," Weiwei replied, nodding as if it were obvious. "What's the connection?" 0

"There might be one, but I'm not sure." Jiang He contemplated for a moment before continuing, "When I arrived, I checked the surroundings and didn’t find any signs of Zombies. But they suddenly appeared at night. Furthermore, I traveled quite a distance before coming here, and there weren't many Zombies on the road. Once I entered the rural path from the side road, there were even fewer. So why have so many Zombies suddenly shown up?" 0

The three fell into thought, sensing that Jiang He seemed to have noticed something important. 0
