Chapter 142: Waiting for the Sun to Rise (Part Two) 0

Chao Yifan was not a particularly conservative person. 0

Before the Cataclysm, he was a wealthy second-generation heir who owned his own bar. Young, rich, and handsome, he was never short of female attention. Like most young men, he enjoyed the company of beautiful women and reveled in the nightlife, spending his nights in the bar surrounded by laughter and music. Many attractive women were drawn to him, and to exaggerate a bit, at least a quarter of the women in his bar would willingly spend time with him. However, he remained indifferent to their advances; for him, earning money from their wallets was far more satisfying than undressing them. 0

He was neither traditional nor promiscuous. He would gaze hungrily at stunning women like a starved bachelor but would ignore the flirtations they sent his way. He preferred to sit at the bar, holding a bottle of beer he had casually taken from a customer's table, observing the butterflies fluttering around him with bleary eyes. Even when a flower named Little Gold began to bloom in his heart, he still maintained a playful demeanor, careful not to express too much. 0

To put it simply, our Chao Yifan would never sell his virtue! He would never bow down to any feudal power! Absolutely not! He would never lower his head! 0

Indeed, in a drunken impulse, he had killed the corpse-transformed men of the Widow Trio with two axes, but that could never justify treating him as a mere breeding machine! So when that woman blew out the candles and lunged at Chao Yifan, Bald King did not hesitate to deliver a flying kick. His foot, clad only in socks, struck the woman's chin hard, causing her to grunt and fall back onto the bed with muffled cries of pain. 0

Chao Tianwang scrambled up in the dark and quickly threw on some clothes. Seeing the shadowy figure on the bed about to move, he rushed forward and pinned the woman down. At that moment, he couldn't care less about propriety; he pulled over a blanket to cover her while threatening in a low voice, "Don't make a sound!" 0

With her mouth covered, the woman could only make muffled sounds of protest. The size difference between them was significant; she struggled fiercely to break free from Chao Yifan's grip. Chao Yifan felt helpless; he couldn't actually kill her. Hearing her breath quicken made him fear she might suffocate if he held on too tightly, so he loosened his grip. To his dismay, the woman took advantage of this and gasped for air before biting him. 0

Chao Yifan was caught off guard by her ferocity and yelped in pain as she bit him. Reflexively, he swung a punch that landed squarely on her temple. The woman’s head snapped sideways, and she fell silent. 0

Outside in the courtyard, those listening could hear the commotion inside; some were amused while others were worried. The second and third members of the Widow Trio entered Cave Dwelling under Old Shepherd's instructions, chuckling as they went. 0

"Hey! What are you doing?" Luci exclaimed anxiously. They had already borrowed Chao Yifan's services; couldn't they wait another day? Goodness! Three ravenous middle-aged women were charging in—did Chao Yifan even stand a chance? 0

Old Shepherd chuckled with delight and waved Luci off. "Don't worry about it; they know what they're doing." 0

Ming Junwei said something to Xiaomi and Xiao Wei beside him, and the two brothers nodded before hurriedly running out of the courtyard. Cao Liangxin, understanding the situation, asked, "Sir, you've been busy eating and haven't mentioned anything important. Do you know if there are any towns nearby? The highway would be fine; we need to get moving." 0

"Get moving? Why would you want to leave when there's good food and drink here?" Old Shepherd wrapped his lips around his pipe, squinting through his cloudy old eyes. "There's a main road if you head north." 0

"Thank you for your generous hospitality, sir. We'll impose on you for one more night and leave tomorrow morning," Ming Junwei said, his gaze drifting toward the dark Cave Dwelling. "Also, whether you believe it or not, the world has changed. The people in this Village are not sick; they are already dead." 0

Old Shepherd fiddled with his pipe, wrinkling his old face. "I understand. Don't think you can take advantage of my lack of education. I've lived seventy or eighty years and have never heard of anyone moving after they've died." 0

Ming Junwei sighed, shaking his head in resignation. There was no point in explaining further; it was better to avoid trouble. They had said what needed to be said, and whether the old man believed it or not was beyond their control. 0

"Don't rush off; I'll prepare some food and drink for you. Wait a little longer; once the Royal Daughter-in-Law is pregnant, then you can leave," Jia Laohan grinned widely and waved his hand. "You all get some sleep; I'll wait alone." 0

The three exchanged worried glances, their expressions shifting slightly. 0

Sure enough, this old fellow wasn't foolish at all. 0

Luci grew impatient and couldn't help but say, "Sir, that's unreasonable. Our friend is a living person, not livestock from your fields. If you want to borrow him for breeding purposes, what if he can't conceive? Are you going to blame us?" 0

"Hey now, little girl, don't be so naive," Old Shepherd chuckled a few times before starting to puff on his pipe again. After a moment, he added, "If you're in such a hurry to leave, just leave that young man behind as our son-in-law for Xiao Tian Village." 0

"You—" Luci was taken aback with anger and was about to argue when suddenly screams erupted from inside the Cave Dwelling, followed by several loud thuds. The side window shattered into countless pieces as a chair flew out through the broken wood. 0

"Run!" came Chao Yifan's furious shout from inside. Amidst the chaos, two women who had just entered scrambled out through the shattered window, their clothes disheveled as they screamed in panic. 0

The situation inside the Cave Dwelling took a sudden turn, and everyone left in the courtyard changed color. Many of the villagers who had not yet left gathered closer, while Ming Junwei and his companions warily distanced themselves, tension filling the air where moments ago there had been peace. 0

"What’s going on now!" Old Shepherd exclaimed, standing up abruptly. He reached for the whip at his waist and cracked it loudly. Spitting a mouthful of phlegm, he turned to enter the kiln door, shouting angrily, "Everyone—" His reprimand was cut short as he stumbled back outside, a torrent of blood erupting from his throat before he collapsed to the ground. 0

"Fuck you all!" 0

Chao Yifan emerged from the doorway, his face smeared with blood, panting heavily beside Old Shepherd's lifeless body. He was bare-chested, wearing pants that had been torn into rags, barefoot, and holding a blood-dripping kitchen knife in his right hand. 0

The courtyard fell into a deathly silence as Ming Junwei and the dozen or so villagers stared in shock at what had just unfolded, their eyes glazed and lips trembling. 0

"You bunch of idiots!" Chao Yifan cursed like a vengeful spirit. A shadow lunged at him from behind, but Chao Yifan dodged aside and kicked the figure in the back. The shadow stumbled and fell to the ground, gasping for breath before getting back up. 0

The stunned crowd finally reacted, their faces turning pale with anger as they charged toward Chao Yifan. However, upon seeing the figure that had just risen from the ground, they all skidded to a halt and retreated three paces. 0

"Open your damn eyes!! That’s not a living person!!" Chao Yifan wiped the blood from his face and pointed at the figure swaying unsteadily in the center of the courtyard. "Take a good look at what this is!" 0

Including Ming Junwei, everyone froze in disbelief. They turned their gazes toward the figure standing there completely naked, long hair cascading down like a waterfall, head bowed low, and body hunched over. A deep wound visible down to the bone marred her neck, blood flowing freely. 0

The two women who had crawled out through the broken window were now on the ground wailing loudly, pointing at the woman in the center of the courtyard and calling out incoherently, "Sister~~!!" 0

Everyone was frozen in shock. 0
