Chapter 154: Resurrection (Part One) 0

Cao Liang retracted his hand from the doorknob, the thunderous roar still echoing in his ears, and the person who had rushed in recklessly was now silent. 0

"Brother Cao... what was that sound?" A chill crept into Luci's heart as she pulled Cao Liang back a few steps, fearfully saying, "That can't be human, right?" 0

"I don't know either." Cao Liang swallowed hard, his gaze involuntarily drifting toward the crack of the door. In truth, he wasn't unaware; he simply couldn't bring himself to believe it. Luci was right—the roar was definitely not human. Before the Cataclysm, Cao Liang had been an outdoor enthusiast, often hiking and camping. While his survival skills weren't exceptional, he could at least recognize certain things. For instance, that sound came from a ferocious beast. 0

"Qianqian, you stay here and watch over Song Yao. I'm going in to take a look." After some consideration, Cao Liang decided to investigate further. This place was eerily confined; the 'return' shaped prison area only extended into this single passage. They hadn't just appeared here out of nowhere; they must have been brought in through this door. If they could come in, then surely they could go out. 0

Though he said that, it was clear even to him that escaping this strange place wouldn't be easy. Luci firmly opposed Cao Liang's reckless behavior, stating seriously, "Absolutely not. Look at the corners of the corridor; there are surveillance cameras everywhere. We're under observation. There’s no one guarding this place... maybe the people behind those cameras want to see us go in? We've already seen what happened before; I think we shouldn't act rashly. Let's wait for Yao Yao to wake up before making any plans. Besides, there are so many people here; you don't need to take unnecessary risks." 0

Cao Liang understood that Luci meant well, but standing at the door without taking a look felt awkward to him. 0

"Stay rational; let's go back first. I refuse to believe there aren't others here." Luci gradually calmed down as her earlier panic subsided, showcasing her strong adaptability. 0

Cao Liang suddenly realized what Luci meant and they stopped hesitating, retracing their steps back to the 'return' shaped prison room. 0

They had barely been gone for ten minutes when more people began waking up in the cell. Few could maintain the same calm as Cao Liang and Luci; terrified screams and cries of despair filled the air, transforming the previously silent large cell into a chaotic scene. Men and women of various ages and skin colors stumbled out of their small rooms, crying out and frantically questioning those nearby. Cao Liang and Luci felt somewhat out of place as they wrapped themselves in thin blankets and squeezed back into their corridor amidst the growing crowd. As more people woke up, they couldn't help but worry about Song Yao while hurriedly navigating through the throng, glancing around anxiously lest they miss her. 0

After a few minutes, they finally returned to Song Yao's small room through the disordered crowd. Fortunately, it seemed she had just awakened and was struggling to prop herself up. 0

"Yao Yao, you're awake!" Luci hurried over to help her sit up. Song Yao appeared somewhat dazed, staring blankly at them with a somewhat wooden expression. 0

“Yao Yao? How are you feeling?” Luci waved her hand in front of her, a hint of worry in her heart. 0

“Qianqian, Brother Cao, where are we…?” Song Yao snapped back to reality, pulling the thin blanket up and asking curiously. 0

The two exchanged glances and briefly recounted the events to Song Yao. Meanwhile, the soundproofing of the glass door was no longer sufficient to block out the noisy voices outside; they had to speak loudly to hear each other. 0

“Beasts?” Song Yao gradually emerged from her shock, feeling curious about the place they had described. 0

“Yeah, it should be large animals, like lions or tigers… definitely not humans,” Cao Liang sighed. They were completely in the dark about their surroundings, and waking up in such a strange place felt terrible. 0

Song Yao rubbed her swollen face and muttered to herself, “Brother Ming and Yi Fan aren’t here either. Could it be...?” 0

“That’s unlikely; they might be in another location,” Cao Liang said as he peeked through the crack of the door at the chaotic hallway. “We need to figure out what’s going on. The people who locked us up can’t just ignore us, right? Otherwise, why would they bother treating us?” 0

“True.” Luci recalled her gunshot wound, which had clearly undergone professional treatment; the injury was nearly healed. This raised another question for her: how long had they been unconscious? Although it seemed absurd, Luci couldn’t shake off the feeling that it was like a dream that lasted for a millennium. Had they been in deep sleep for a long time like in some sci-fi story? 0

Song Yao silently checked her abdominal injury. Luci was right; there was a slight sting at the wound site, accompanied by some numbness and itching. Aside from feeling weak all over, there were no other unusual symptoms. 0

“Huh?” Cao Liang, who had been guarding the door, called out in confusion and waved his hand. “They’ve all left!” 0

“Left?” Luci approached skeptically and saw that indeed, the noisy crowd in the hallway had turned into a flowing mass, chattering as they moved down the corridor and turned a corner. 0

“Maybe they’re looking for an exit? Should we go take a look? There are plenty of people,” Cao Liang said eagerly. He was particularly curious about what lay beyond that door, especially since there was only one way leading there. 0

"Wait a minute, we can't just go like this." Song Yao's strength had recovered significantly, and she said somewhat shyly, "Brother Cao... could you turn around for a moment?" 0

"Oh, oh." Cao Liang quickly turned around. After listening to the two women rustling behind him for a while, he turned back when they told him it was okay, only to find that they had completely changed their appearance. 0

"What’s with that look?" Luci rolled her eyes. "It's much more convenient than being wrapped in a blanket." 0

"Right, right, you two wait a moment, I’ll change too." The tense atmosphere lightened considerably as Cao Liang pushed the door open and imitated the two women’s actions, pulling the thin blanket apart and dumping its filling onto the floor. He tore three holes in it to poke his head and arms out. 0

The three figures clad in strange robes had initially intended to find something useful for self-defense, but aside from a bed, there was nothing else in the small room. The bed frame was made of welded metal and couldn’t be moved at all. With no other options, they had no choice but to rush out empty-handed to join the main group. 0

As Luci had guessed, those near the passage discovered the door. A large crowd of bewildered people gradually calmed down after some time of venting their emotions. They began asking each other where they were and sharing their last memories before arriving here. Slowly, the frantic crying subsided, and people started chattering about the current situation. Before long, someone in another corridor claimed to have found an exit, causing the crowd to erupt with excitement as they hurriedly gathered together, filled with questions and unease as they surged toward that passage. 0

However, it seemed that things were not progressing smoothly. 0

The bustling crowd blocked most of the passageway; the line extended from the door all the way down to the lower half of the 'return' corridor. Those at the back didn’t know why those at the front had stopped and began pushing forward relentlessly. Meanwhile, those at the front seemed to be facing some kind of resistance and were desperately trying to retreat. As a result, a long line became stuck in the corridor with no way to advance or retreat. 0

"It looks like something's wrong up ahead," Cao Liang remarked, clicking his tongue. He said to the two women, "We should head back; we can't get through." 0

Someone at the back heard Cao Liang's words; two young men and a girl turned around to look at them. Initially taken aback by their presence... 0
