Chapter 167: The Action-Oriented
Let us turn back the hands of time half a circle.
At that moment, Kenny was performing an eagle catching a chick in the wilderness; Ming Junwei and his group of four stealthily entered the mysterious Feed Area; Cao Liang and Luci were startled by someone leaping out from the entrance; meanwhile, Wheat was holding the little boy's hand, sprinting down the sterile corridor of the Cultivation Room.
Wheat held the little boy with one hand and carried high heels in the other, like a gust of wind, swiftly darting through the carpeted hallway just before the child could be awakened for feeding, slipping into the Elevator. The patrolling staff on either side of the hallway exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of what this little girl from the Nursery Area was up to.
A few minutes later, alarms blared as a young girl, stripped of her clothes, rolled out from a Cultivation Room, her mouth taped shut and her hands and feet bound together. Three or five Middle-Aged Women rushed out from a room at the end of the corridor, shocked at the sight. They hurried to help the young girl and tore off the tape from her mouth.
"I was attacked!" The girl exclaimed in panic. "But I didn't see their face!"
"Quickly count the number of people," an older woman instructed, dispersing the crowd that had gathered to inquire and hurriedly ran to check on the situation in the Cultivation Room. Before long, someone discovered that an 8-year-old boy was missing.
The person in charge of the Nursery Area called over Security personnel to inquire about the situation, asking if they had seen a little boy. Two Security officers reported that they had seen a little girl with a boy entering the Elevator a few minutes earlier but did not know where they had gone.
To balance resource usage within the building, no CCTV surveillance was installed in the Nursery Area since it primarily housed infants and toddlers, with only a few older children who posed no real threat. However, today there had been an oversight. The person in charge reviewed the missing boy's information with a grim expression and quickly retrieved his photo to give to Security personnel, hoping they could find him soon.
"He's just a little kid; there's no need to panic," said the Security Squad Leader, attempting to calm down the agitated Nannies. "We'll bring him back right away."
"This is not an ordinary child," said the young girl who had been stripped of her clothes seriously. "The latent symptoms from secondary medication have not yet appeared. After previous medication, he exhibited extreme aggression. If necessary, we must choose to eliminate him—no one can afford to be bitten."
The Security personnel understood the gravity of the situation and did not dare to delay. They quickly divided into groups and used both the Elevator and safety passages to notify and alert all levels. The Nursery Area was located on Underground Level Two, in the southeast corner of the entire Laboratory. Due to its special nature, typically only perimeter Security was present; internal areas were filled with research personnel who generally lacked defensive and combat capabilities. Therefore, Security personnel immediately notified central control, hoping to initiate a self-check within the Laboratory to prevent any unforeseen incidents.
Meanwhile, Wheat had already returned to the archive room with a flushed-faced boy.
The archive room was empty; Wheat closed the door behind them and led the little boy deep into a filing cabinet. There lay a collection of dusty leather bags covered with moisture-proof cloths in dim light.
The two little ones dug a pit in the pile of documents and sat side by side, letting out a sigh of relief as they exchanged glances and burst into giggles.
"That was close! I was so nervous!" Wheat exclaimed, picking up a document to fan herself. Her cheeks were flushed from running and anxiety, and the strands of hair on her face were damp with sweat, making her look quite adorable.
"Wheat sister, where's my mom?" the little boy asked, grinning as he wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. "Did they give you a shot?"
"I'll go find your mom in a bit... A shot?" Wheat paused for a moment before asking, "Did they give you one?"
"Yeah, I got a lot of shots," the little boy replied, rolling up the sleeves of his oversized hospital gown to reveal four or five red injection marks on his arm.
Wheat gently rubbed the injection sites with concern and asked, "Do you feel unwell?"
The little boy shook his head. "Nope, I'm fine. I'm not sick."
"Okay, don't be scared. I'll go find your mom right away. You wait here for me and don't run off," Wheat instructed him earnestly. She took off her light blue uniform from the nursery area, squeezed out from the pile of files, and grabbed a white coat stained with red ink from the back of a chair. Looking around, she spotted something and quickly crawled under the table to pull out a pair of flat shoes. Her ankles were sore and red, with skin broken from rubbing against her shoes.
"Wheat sister," the little boy called through the gaps in the file rack.
"Yes? What is it?"
"I need to pee."
Wheat stood up and looked around. She picked up a teacup from the table, emptied out the leftover tea leaves, and handed it to the little boy.
"Remember, don’t run around or make noise. Wait for me to come back!" With that, she grabbed a stack of blank documents from the table, hugged them to her chest, and hurriedly ran out of the file room.
A man and a woman happened to enter just outside the door. The woman, noticing her flushed face, asked curiously, "Who are you?"
"Upstairs wants to create a new file." Wheat continued walking, shaking the stack of documents in her hand, and hurriedly turned into the elevator corridor.
"Is she wearing your clothes?" The woman stared blankly at Wheat's retreating figure and muttered.
"It seems so..."

In the mezzanine, Feed Area.
Ming Junwei and his three companions cautiously made their way toward the light at the end of the path, carefully observing their surroundings. It was strange here; so far, they had not encountered the terrifying things that Summer Rain had mentioned; it was merely a bit oppressive in atmosphere.
The distance from the door to this point was about several dozen meters, without any lighting or surveillance cameras. A dim light was cast from a corner passageway; inside, the corridor was spacious, flanked by many exhibition-like rooms. The rooms were larger than a prison cell, with transparent floor-to-ceiling glass walls that allowed a view of the interiors, but there was no light or people inside. The faint light emanated from a square object hanging from the ceiling of the corridor, resembling a fly lamp used in restaurants, but the light was not purple.
Jin Bo, curious, leaned closer to the glass room to take a look and knocked on the glass wall. The sound was muffled, indicating that the curtain wall was extremely thick.
"What is this? An aquarium? A snake house?" Jin Bo wondered aloud; this place reminded him of the snake house at the zoo when he was a child, where visitors stood outside the glass to observe a room full of snakes and a few girls covering themselves with minimal clothing.
"I don't know; it's my first time here too."
