Chapter 179: Ants
Inside the cylindrical transparent Cultivation Pod, strange bubbles rolled about, and Song Yao appeared like an uncarved piece of art, floating up and down within the liquid. The Cultivation Pod was not large; numerous tubes carrying liquids of different colors connected to the top cover, with transparent tubes extending into the pod, branching into smaller needles inserted into Song Yao's neck, arms, ribs, back, and legs. A mixture of colorful liquids slowly flowed through the tubes into her body.
Song Yao lay with her eyes closed, her face betraying no signs of pain; it seemed she had merely fallen into a Deep Sleep. A tube, thick as two fingers, was lodged in her mouth, giving her an odd appearance. Her slightly long black hair floated around her like a cluster of aquatic plants, gently swaying with the rolling bubbles. Her body appeared as if it were flowing with an elusive radiance. The only blemish on this jade-like figure was the multitude of horrifying wounds covering her skin—lacerations, puncture wounds, and countless minor abrasions from falls and scrapes.
Despite this, Kenny, standing outside the Cultivation Pod, couldn't help but exclaim in admiration, his eyes shining brightly. Bai Yudong stood behind him with his hands clasped behind his back, his expression indifferent and silent.
"Perfect," Kenny said as he leaned against the transparent glass of the pod, gazing greedily at the liquid flowing through the tubes, a hint of fervor appearing on his face.
Bai Yudong sighed inwardly and turned his face away from the girl in the container, feeling a wave of melancholy wash over him. After a while, Kenny finally withdrew his gaze and turned to face Bai Yudong.
"How should I reward you? No, what do you want? What are your demands? Feel free to ask," Kenny said, a faint flush appearing on his cheeks, his eyes filled with delight like a young entrepreneur who had just rung the bell at Nasdaq—full of vigor and in high spirits.
Bai Yudong stared into his eyes for a moment before replying, "If it can't be done, then don't let me ask."
"You are a smart man," Kenny said without taking offense at his attitude. He spread his arms and circled around the special Cultivation Room with a smile. "You know what to ask for."
"Understood; I'm not interested in those things," Bai Yudong said thoughtfully. "Release a few people."
"Huh?" Kenny halted mid-step, raising an eyebrow in confusion. "What?"
"My former subordinates—the young men you promised to release—are all here now," Bai Yudong stated flatly as if discussing something unrelated to him. "Let them go; you have already gotten what you wanted."
Kenny understood his meaning and suddenly burst into laughter, leaving Bai Yudong feeling perplexed.
"What’s going on? Lately, everyone has been asking me for people," Kenny said as he adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and slicked back his hair. "How many do you have?"
"Four or five, not many. It won't affect you," Bai Yudong replied after a moment of silence, seeming a bit hesitant. After thinking it over, he raised his head and pointed at the glass chamber. "She is one of them."
"Oh?" A glimmer of surprise flashed in Kenny's eyes. "You want to save them, but you're handing one over to me?"
"Think what you want; this is my request."
"So that means..." Kenny glanced at the glass container. "Excluding her, am I correct in understanding?"
Bai Yudong took a deep breath and gritted his teeth. "That's right."
"Deal." Kenny snapped his fingers nonchalantly and gestured for Bai Yudong to follow him out. The two changed out of their protective suits in the sterilization room and emerged refreshed into the corridor. Waiting outside, Black Behemoth shot a glance at Bai Yudong and rolled his eyes dramatically.
"We'll handle it all at once." Kenny was in an unusually good mood today and recalled Aso's request, so he instructed Black Behemoth to bring Aso down, intending to settle everything in one go. To him, the chaos that had occurred in the Underground Structure seemed no longer important.
A few minutes later, hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor as Su Lan rushed out from deep within, her face filled with urgency. Black Behemoth followed closely behind, panting heavily.
"Great, everyone is here." Kenny wore a calm smile as he opened his arms toward Su Lan. She paused for a moment, clearly taken aback but did not refuse; she gave him a light hug while her gaze drifted elsewhere.
"Bring in the person responsible for the files." Kenny noticed Su Lan's demeanor but chose not to dwell on it, signaling Black Behemoth to continue running errands.
Black Behemoth smirked and said, "The handover isn't complete yet. The previous person in charge brought her to the conference room last night, waiting to see you."
"Is that so? Why didn't you remind me?" Kenny shrugged, indicating he was unaware.
"Forget I said anything." Black Behemoth knew he would respond like that and didn’t bother to argue with the unreliable Boss. Instead, he asked, "Shall I go bring her down?"
Kenny watched Black Behemoth's figure fade into the distance and chuckled to himself as he led Bai Yudong and Su Lan away from the corridor.
The ground-level building's Elevator Passage did not connect with the Underground Structure. The main hub was on the first floor, which was that empty hall. There weren't many personnel in the upper building; mainly, it was the heads of various departments. The Field Personnel were heavily armed and concentrated outside the high Inside the Wall, responsible for the security of the entire base. There weren’t many Security personnel in the ground-level building; only a few Field Personnel remained at each Elevator Passage. These Militants were not comparable to the underground Security; they belonged to Kenny's direct line, mostly foreign Mercenaries, a legacy from his early days working overseas. In terms of loyalty and combat effectiveness, they far surpassed the underground Security.
These tough guys could adapt to the harsh conditions of Field Personnel combat but could also comfortably lounge in chairs under the sun. Even when tasked with guarding an elevator passage—a job that seemed devoid of technical skill—they performed it with enthusiasm. When they saw *oss* approaching with his lover and a number one troublemaker, they ended their boring card game, stood up, and greeted Boss.
Kenny nodded in acknowledgment and led the two to wait by the Elevator for Black Behemoth. Seeing they had no business with them, the tough guys grumbled and returned to their seats, resuming their activities. Su Lan observed this scene, feeling secretly astonished; these men were all Face, at least she had never seen them before, yet their demeanor clearly indicated they had been working with Kenny for quite some time. She found it hard to imagine what Kenny had been doing behind the scenes over those years—a young Asia Regional Head who could manage such a formidable group.
