Chapter 193: The Yellow Sparrow 2 0

“Shaolian, something feels off,” a soldier said as he finished loading his ammunition and hurried over to Shaoshan’s side. Shaoshan had just taken out one of the Watchtowers with a single shot from a portable rocket launcher, and smoke billowed from the structure, accompanied by the sounds of explosions and anguished screams. 0

“What’s wrong?” Shaoshan lamented as he discarded the rocket launcher. Supplies were scarce, and he had only managed to secure two launchers from the ammunition depot thanks to Wang Zhongyu’s influence. He had already used one on the way here; otherwise, both Watchtowers flanking the entrance would have been destroyed. 0

“The Blade Team has already pushed in, but there’s no heavy resistance,” the soldier replied, puzzled. Even if this area was filled with Mercenaries lacking heavy weaponry, there should at least be some organized counterattack. However, five minutes had passed, and the surprise attack time was firmly in Shaoshan’s hands. The leading Blade Team had breached the Container camp just as Shaoshan blew up the Watchtower. With their high ground firepower diminished, the Blade Team was almost at the main gate. The soldier found it strange; surely the Armed Forces here couldn’t be that incompetent? Was there something more going on? 0

“Don’t worry about unnecessary things; this isn’t a large-scale battle,” Shaoshan said, giving the soldier a pat on the back and signaling to the other teams to continue advancing. Seeing the soldier’s doubtful expression, he explained, “We’re using firearms against firearms, not melee tactics. There’s no such thing as an empty city strategy here. The Blade Team has brought some TNT; regardless of what tricks they’re trying to pull, as long as our people get in there, they won’t come out unscathed.” Shaoshan squinted his eyes and paused for a moment. He too had questions; it was evident that their opponents were not putting up any resistance. Otherwise, snipers would have started firing five minutes ago. Since he didn’t know what they were planning, he decided not to interfere further. After all, their job was to suppress firepower to buy time for Wang Zhongyu. If they had deliberately redeployed personnel to defend underground, Shaoshan wouldn’t mind causing some chaos. 0

“So are we holding back or pushing in?” 0

“Follow the original plan. If anything changes, I’ll notify you immediately.” Shaoshan spat on the ground and noticed that firepower from above the Watchtower had intensified. He quickly led the remaining soldiers forward while shouting, “See? They’re starting to realize now!” 0

The soldier with a goat beard in charge of the Container camp wore a serious expression. Chen Zhao Zhou had left him with a mess to clean up; although he was reluctant, he had no choice but to step up. Counting himself and Chen Zhao Zhou, there were thirteen former members of Cheng Long. In terms of conventional plains combat, if they used the cover of the Container to ambush Shaoshan, they could at least delay them for ten or twenty minutes. No matter how sudden Shaoshan’s attack was, it should be enough time for reinforcements from high up on the wall to arrive. Unfortunately, Chen Zhao Zhou wasn’t willing to fight to the death; he only served under Cheng Long, and now that Cheng Long was gone, his own life became precious. 0

Before leaving, Chen Zhao Zhou instructed the goat-bearded soldier that their group was prepared with supplies and had been using small arms to engage with Shaoshan. The field personnel atop the Watchtower inquired whether support was needed, but the goat-bearded soldier flatly refused, pretending to be underestimated. He led his team of Oscar-worthy soldiers out with great fanfare but began slacking off once they reached their firing positions. His intention was to drag things out with Shaoshan, but he hadn’t anticipated that their opponents would bring heavy weaponry. Ever since the government shutdown and military reorganization, it had been a long time since they had handled heavy arms themselves; they were momentarily disoriented and ended up getting blown apart by grenades from the Blade Team. 0

This time around, Shaoshan spared no expense. Although his squad was small in number, they had scavenged plenty of equipment. The old man tasked him with destroying this research base, so explosives were essential. If it weren’t for the long journey making it inconvenient to carry more supplies, those automated artillery pieces in the camp wouldn’t have escaped his grasp. 0

A wave of grenades took out two soldiers from the goat-bearded soldier's side. He felt a pang of regret but thought that as long as they delayed time for Chen Zhao Zhou, it didn’t matter if they fought here to the bitter end. Thus, he decisively led his men back. The field personnel atop the Watchtower watched as that once arrogant fellow fled back into high ground behind the wall and erupted into unabashed laughter. To them, it was humiliating that these self-proclaimed regular troops would actually run away. 0

Unfortunately for these field personnel, their laughter was cut short when a rocket fired by Shaoshan accurately toppled the Watchtower. With a thunderous explosion, several field personnel were turned into mere fragments scattered across the sky. 0

That shot was truly spectacular; the burning Watchtower resembled a lighthouse in the dark night, illuminating Shaoshan’s path forward. 0

Inside the Wall, the situation turned chaotic as artillery was brought to bear. The soldiers hurriedly loaded their weapons and surged toward the main gate, intending to set an example for the regular troops who had fled in the face of danger, planning to stage a counterattack. Goatee had this in mind, thinking that among these mercenaries were plenty of burly foreigners, making them suitable cannon fodder. 0

However, Goatee's intentions were thwarted when Caroline arrived just in time to stop the Field Personnel from rushing out to fight. 0

"Who is in charge of the battle?" The Blonde Woman's face was as cold as frost, clearly displeased with the chaos at the front gate. A few days prior, Cheng Long had informed the Establishment of an impending attack before his death. In the following days, she and Chen Zhao Zhou had set up numerous Outposts around the perimeter. As long as the Establishment wasn’t bringing a million troops across the river, they could easily hold back the enemy. Therefore, when gunfire erupted, Caroline didn’t take it seriously; as someone who had weathered many storms, she found such minor probing attacks uninteresting. However, this probing fire had lasted too long, and the outer resistance was too pathetic, causing her some concern. 0

No one answered Caroline because there was no commander; those from the Container barracks had run back, so the Field Personnel naturally filled in and returned fire without any specific orders or commands. 0

Caroline was quite annoyed. She looked around and frowned. "Where is Chen Zhao Zhou? Where did he go?" 0

Goatee's gaze flickered slightly as he replied softly, "I think he went to find Boss." 0

"Think?" Caroline's nose nearly crinkled with anger. What was Chen Zhao Zhou doing? The Blonde Woman snapped, "When did this happen? What about monitoring the Outposts? Isn’t it working?" 0

"Boom!" 0

As they spoke, another loud explosion echoed nearby. A low-lying area close to the high wall erupted with thunderous noise as flames shot into the sky. The shockwave from the explosion blasted a hole in the wall, causing it to crumble and crack rapidly. Before the Field Personnel on top of the wall could react, it collapsed with a thunderous roar, sending up a cloud of dust like a mushroom. 0

"Damn it." 0

Both Caroline and Goatee cursed inwardly at the same time. Was the Establishment insane? This was no minor skirmish; they were heavily armed! 0

"Push them back! Do not leave the barracks!" Caroline shouted furiously as she snatched Goatee's Submachine Gun and led a group of mercenaries out to counterattack. 0

Goatee and his comrades exchanged glances, unsure of how to proceed. 0

"What should we do, just huddle here?" Ultimately, they were all men of courage, and some could no longer contain their restlessness. 0
