Chapter 216: The Unrelenting Spirit (Part 1)
"What did you see?" The group was startled by Jiang He's expression. Just a moment ago, they were casually watching the scene unfold, but now his face had turned dark. What was going on?
"Gun, gun, who has a gun?" Jiang He seemed to have lost all ability to listen. He put down the binoculars and transformed into a different person, urgently demanding a weapon from Shaoshan. This made Shaoshan feel uneasy; they were deep in the Zombie-infested area, and seeing Jiang He's desperate demeanor, no one dared to hand him a gun.
"What’s happening?" Wang Zhongyu was also confused. He grabbed the binoculars and took another look. The people at the port were still moving about, seemingly unaware of the strange happenings across the park.
"It’s him… it’s him again!" Jiang He's face turned ashen. Song Yao and Zeng Yadong each grabbed one of his arms, fearing he might jump into the sea in his frantic state.
"Why is he still alive? How can he still be alive?!" Jiang He's eyes were bloodshot, his mind buzzing with anger that made him feel nauseous. "Zhou Huai! It’s Zhou Huai! Why hasn’t he died?!"
Song Yao's expression changed drastically as he quickly snatched the binoculars from Wang Zhongyu to take a look… On the opposite dock, there were large blue and red containers stacked high, and between two of them stood a hunched-over, thin man moving in and out of the container alley. He was carrying numerous pots and jars, looking extremely hurried. Months had passed, and the man’s hair had grown long and he had grown a beard. His narrow eyes remained sharp; despite the distance, Song Yao was confident that he wasn’t mistaken—after all, the man's face and features hadn’t changed much.
"It really is him…" Song Yao was stunned. He never expected to encounter Zhou Huai here after all this time. No wonder Jiang He was losing it; to put it bluntly, their group had ended up in this dire situation largely because of Zhou Huai.
Zeng Yadong had joined the team later and wasn’t fully aware of the enmity between Jiang He and Zhou Huai. Seeing that Song Yao was also showing signs of losing control, he quickly moved beside them to prevent these two furious individuals from doing something irrational. Wheat wasn’t unfamiliar with this name; it was this person’s doing that led to the destruction of Farmhouse. Hearing their determined words, the young girl silently clenched her fists, her eyes filled with hatred.
"Zhou Huai…?" Shaoshan searched his mind but couldn’t place the name. After repeating it several times, it began to sound somewhat familiar, but he couldn’t recall where he had heard it before.
"He’s leaving." Song Yao lowered the binoculars, a layer of frost settling on his face. "Where is he going?"
"To hell," Jiang He spat bitterly as he leaned over the railing, scanning the area before grabbing a machete and sprinting toward the park entrance.
Zeng Yadong was momentarily stunned and failed to stop him. By the time she reacted, Jiang He had already run far away.
"This is... huh?" Shaoshan, furious, slapped his thigh and quickly turned around to command, "Go find the small boat in the park! Hurry!" The soldiers exchanged glances and hurriedly scattered, leaving only a few still frozen in place.
Song Yao was about to chase after him when the slower-reacting Zeng Yadong managed to hold her back, warning, "Don't be impulsive! There are zombies down there; you can't get past like this!"
"Wait for the boat to arrive, and don't shoot!" Shaoshan said, holding his triangular military dagger. He turned to Wang Zhongyu and added, "I'm going after that kid. You all figure out how to get into the water later!"
"Be careful!" Wang Zhongyu urgently reminded him, unsure if Shaoshan even heard. The atmosphere suddenly became tense, and those left behind could only stare blankly, with no other options.
Calming down, Song Yao decided not to insist on chasing after him. With Shaoshan following, she felt much more at ease; going up herself would only create chaos and wouldn't help the situation. The Brothers in Arms had set off to find a boat. They couldn't shoot or jump into the sea, so they had no choice but to stay up high and keep an eye on Zhou Huai's movements, silently praying that Jiang He wouldn't encounter any more trouble.
"Does that guy have a grudge against you?" Wang Zhongyu couldn't help but ask.
"Blood debt," Song Yao replied coldly.
Wang Zhongyu grimaced at this, feeling quite helpless. Who would have thought that a casual glance could lead to encountering an enemy? These young people had such wide social circles; their foes spanned thousands of miles and seemed to be everywhere. This not-so-serious character squinted as he observed the situation across the way and muttered, "What a pity; there are too many zombies down there. Otherwise, this distance would still be within range."
"They won't catch up," Song Yao said as she lowered her binoculars, biting her lip. "He's about to set sail; Jiang He won't catch him."
"You all are too impatient. A small fishing boat can't get too far," Wang Zhongyu pointed out their personalities' shortcomings. "If we could get into the water, it would be easy to catch up with him. At least we wouldn't have to worry about gunfire on the surface."
Song Yao paused for a moment before her expression shifted to one of realization. She hurriedly said, "Then you all follow along." Before she finished speaking, Song Yao took two steps back for a running start and leaped over the railing. The others gasped in surprise and reached out to grab her but were already too late. As Song Yao soared over the railing, her body briefly hung in mid-air for a moment before adjusting her position and plunging headfirst downwards amidst the astonished cries of those left behind.
"Crazy! It's all fucking crazy!" Wang Zhongyu clung to the railing, his eyes nearly popping out as he watched Song Yao. The park's railing was elevated, with a drop of over ten meters to the sea below. A walkway hugged the base of the park's viewing wall, and if she chose a jumping spot that was too close, she could easily end up crashing onto the walkway and shattering herself. Fortunately, Song Yao had good luck; she exerted herself powerfully, her body launching forward like a javelin.
