Chapter 220: Irrevocable 0

"Commander, there's really nothing else..." a soldier explained awkwardly. Wang Zhongyu's expression made him feel somewhat embarrassed, but it was the truth; they had searched the entire park, and this was the only thing they could use to get into the water. Not far outside the park, there was a shipyard, but they couldn't possibly move anything from there. 0

Wang Zhongyu dragged a few deflated inflatable rafts, feeling like crying. However, he understood the soldiers' predicament; an inflatable raft was better than nothing, right? So he tossed the rafts to everyone and gritted his teeth, ordering, "Blow them up!" 0

Zeng Yadong and the others rolled their eyes and took the air pumps to get to work. These inflatable rafts were brand new, some still had price tags attached, and they had brought back quite a few of various sizes. The two women compared the patterns on the sealed bags and chose seven or eight that were slightly larger, which according to the instructions could hold six people. 0

The team originally had fifty members, but they had lost over ten in the Gobi Desert and another seven at the farmhouse. Now, counting Shaoshan and Wang Zhongyu, there were only thirty people left. Five rafts would be just enough to fit everyone, but due to weight limits, Zeng Yadong and his group decided to inflate two more. With that, their fleet of inflatable rafts was ready. One air pump wasn't enough; an anxious soldier held onto the valve and blew with all his might until his eyes turned red. Zeng Yadong and Wheat helped assemble paddles, busy as bees. Jin Bo stood aside watching dumbfounded; he picked up a camera and snapped a couple of pictures before hurriedly joining in on the bustling production team. 0

The assembly wasn't too complicated; after about ten minutes, seven colorful inflatable rafts were lined up, waiting to be launched into the water. Everyone divided into seven teams based on weight and took ropes from the truck to tie them to tree trunks by the viewing wall. The railing felt a bit unstable, fearing it wouldn't hold up; they had no choice but to burden the big tree instead. Brothers in Arms lifted the inflatable rafts and tossed them into the water; they bobbed around unsteadily before slowly drifting away with the current. 0

"Hurry up!" Wang Zhongyu exclaimed anxiously. This wouldn't do; by the time everyone climbed down one by one, those rafts would have drifted off who knows where. They needed a few people to get in first to stabilize them. After asking around, he found a few soldiers who weren't terrible swimmers; without bothering to take off their clothes or hand over their weapons to their comrades, they rolled up their sleeves and jumped in one after another, giving the zombies a show of high diving. 0

Wang Zhongyu's worries were soon confirmed. The walkway beneath the viewing wall was already crowded with zombies; repeated provocations had clearly agitated them. After several more soldiers fell into the water, some restless zombies finally followed suit. Although they didn't pose an immediate threat yet, time was running out for those still on the viewing wall. The soldiers who jumped in climbed onto the inflatable rafts and began paddling away from the walkway as quickly as possible to distance themselves from the zombies. The zombies in the water flailed about but couldn't find their bearings; while some couldn't sink, they could only spin in place. 0

The remaining people clung to ropes as they climbed over the railing, using their feet against the wall to lower themselves slowly. Brothers in Arms moved quickly while Zeng Yadong's group lagged behind a bit; especially Wheat—the clever girl struggled with this physical task. Wang Zhongyu tested the strength of the rope without hesitation and hoisted her up on his back before sliding down swiftly. 0

"Clear the walkway!" Wang Zhongyu shouted as he and several "Spider-Men" dangled two meters above the zombies' heads. Seeing that they couldn't continue descending any further, they had no choice but to shoot at the threats below them. The area where the walkway connected to the dock wasn't spacious; although killing one batch would lead to replacements appearing later on, there was enough of a gap for everyone to board sequentially. As for how they'd manage on their return trip—that was no longer a concern. 0

Song Yao and Shaoshan clung shivering to an anchor chain as they watched dense gunfire erupt from above on the viewing wall. The zombies on the walkway seemed like crops being harvested by a scythe—blood and flesh flew everywhere as they were cut down like weeds. The splashing zombies near Workboat were also drawn by gunfire; unfortunately, their swimming skills were lacking—despite their urgency, they couldn't find their positions correctly and splashed around without moving an inch. 0

Shaoshan glanced at water-soaked Song Yao and couldn't help but ask, "Were you on a swim team before? You seem so strong!" 0

Song Yao paused for a moment, then quickly regained her composure and replied casually, "Yeah, I like swimming and often work out." 0

Shaoshan didn't ask any further questions; he simply glanced at her arms hanging between the anchor chains and compared them to his own state. He couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled. This rough man was struggling to keep his balance with the continuous movements above and below the water, while Song Yao seemed much more composed. Her arms, which were holding onto the anchor chain, almost bore her entire weight. The space under her feet was limited, so she had to rely mainly on her arm strength. Shaoshan's arms were starting to tremble, yet Song Yao appeared unfazed, aside from shivering from the icy water soaking through her clothes; she showed no other signs of exertion. 0

At that moment, the crowd on the observation wall had already boarded the inflatable boats. There was a noticeable difference between the manual and the actual situation; the uneven weight distribution among the Brothers in Arms was one issue, and the additional burden of their firearms and ammunition increased their load. Several inflatable boats sank a few inches simultaneously, looking precariously unstable. 0

"Row! Shout out the commands!" Wang Zhongyu shouted as he took over the oars. At this point, he no longer cared about the Zombies and yelled commands that made no sense to them while swinging the oars to propel the inflatable boat forward. The other boats followed suit, straining to paddle through the water until they quickly distanced themselves from the dock. Meanwhile, the Zombies rushing in from that direction lost control and plunged into the water with a roar, creating a scene reminiscent of dumplings being dropped into boiling water. 0

Jin Bo and another Soldier took charge of steering while Zeng Yadong and Wheat worked to balance the boat. The colorful fleet of inflatable boats sailed boldly past the Workboat and swiftly approached the Container ship. Wang Zhongyu raised his oar to signal a young man on an adjacent boat to clear out the Zombies lurking beneath the engineering vessel. That kid was likely a sharpshooter in their group; he aimed his Type 81 rifle at the surface of the water and repeatedly pulled the trigger, each bullet hitting its mark with precision as it struck the Zombies bobbing up and down in the water. 0

The recoil from firing a gun was considerable, especially on water. Once he cleared out all the Zombies from beneath, their inflatable boat spun a full 360 degrees on the surface, leaving behind a layer of corpses floating in the water as crimson blood slowly spread outwards. 0

Shaoshan and Song Yao finally managed to... 0
