Some sought ecstasy, while others wished for death.
In another cave, the thick velvet curtains could not muffle the sounds of passion within. The splashing of water intertwined with a woman's high-pitched cries, echoing clearly through the tunnel. A tall woman with a stern expression led more than ten members of the Bald Gang around a corner, heading straight for the live broadcast at Dan Fengyan's lair.
"Sister Man, stop playing around; Red Mother has given orders," the tall woman said as she pushed aside the curtain and entered. Inside the cave, incense burned, casting flickering shadows and filling the air with a heady aroma that made one feel drowsy. The furnace blazed brightly, and a branding iron lay beside it, faintly smelling of meat, with charred iron still clinging to curled strands of hair.
The response to her was an escalating chorus of cries, punctuated by sharp cracks of a whip. Clearly, those inside were lost in their revelry and paid her no mind. Annoyed, the tall woman strode into the inner chamber, only to be greeted by a scene too disturbing to bear.
Dan Fengyan faced the entrance curtain, riding atop a robust body in a frenzy of motion. Her sultry gaze and flushed cheeks were marred by bloodstains on her lips and face. The leather outfit clung tightly to her form, torn in several places and soaked in blood. Beneath her, the man was in a pitiful state; his arms and legs were bound in an X-shape to supports embedded in the rock walls, his body covered in whip marks. Large patches of crimson wax had congealed on sensitive areas, mingling with dried blood and emitting a strange odor.
The man wore a hood over his head, leaving his fate uncertain. A palm-sized burn mark marred his chest, clearly the work of the branding iron outside. Dan Fengyan was lost in ecstasy, ignoring the woman who had burst in, shouting words that would make anyone blush. Each time pleasure overwhelmed her, she would lash out at the man beneath her with a whip, her right hand gripping a sharp blade that seemed to trace along her own skin without conscious thought, tearing her outfit further and leaving trails of blood.
The tall woman struggled to accept this scene and called out repeatedly to Dan Fengyan, but received no acknowledgment. With no other choice, she summoned those outside to intervene; otherwise, both women might end up destroying each other.
The bald men received their orders and forcibly separated Dan Fengyan from the man. Enraged, she swung her whip at one of them, leaving a deep gash across his face. The bald man winced in pain but dared not retaliate; he endured the sting as he untied the man's limbs and removed the hood to reveal a pale face.
Wu Wentao exhaled deeply as he glanced at the cramped cave filled with people. He rubbed his wrists and touched the bite marks on his neck, feeling a chill run down his spine as he allowed himself to be led away by the bald men.
Dan Fengyan was clearly still lost in extreme pleasure and shot an irritated glare at the two women. "What do you want?"
"Red Mother ordered that all male slaves distributed today must be taken away," the tall woman replied helplessly as she wrung out a towel from a basin and approached Dan Fengyan to wipe away some of the blood on her.
Dan Fengyan quickly dodged away and laughed while scolding her, "Saltwater? Are you trying to kill me?"
The tall woman looked exasperated as she pointed at Dan Fengyan's bloodstains and sighed, "You're going to end up killing yourself one day."
"I enjoy it," Dan Fengyan replied nonchalantly as she stripped off her tattered leather outfit and casually grabbed a sheet to wipe away the blood from her wounds. "Why do we have to take them back?"
"One got away; Red Mother is not pleased," the tall woman answered while glancing at Wu Wentao's battered form. Unable to help herself, she shivered slightly and asked, "Hey, you're not dead yet, are you?"
Wu Wentao tugged at the corner of his mouth, looking weak and limp as he hung on the bald man's shoulder. He asked, "You said someone ran away?"
The Tall Woman shot him a glare without responding, her gaze shifting downwards, slightly surprised. She covered her mouth and said to Dan Fengyan, "I guess you won't get a chance now."
"Ah," Dan Fengyan's expression fell, annoyed. "What is Red Mother doing? If they ran away, just catch them back!"
Wu Wentao listened quietly to the conversation between the two women, secretly speculating who might have fled first. When he saw the bald man bringing in the shackles from outside, he knew it was now or never. His eyes changed, and with a sudden burst of energy, he shoved the bald man aside and kicked towards the close-range Dan Fengyan. The two women were startled; facing the Field Captain's rampage, they had no means to react. They felt a sharp pain in their wrists as their short knives slipped from their hands. Wu Wentao caught one of the knives mid-air, ignoring the two women entirely. He turned around and thrust his fist forward, driving the sharp blade precisely into the bald man's heart, sending blood spraying in all directions.
Thanks to the bed scene arranged by Dan Fengyan, Wu Wentao was equally in an excited state at that moment. While it was somewhat inappropriate beneath him, his physical strength was absolutely at its peak. The weak bald man, unarmed and unable to organize any counterattack, quickly fell among a pile of corpses. The pain coursing through Wu Wentao's body made his mind clearer. He glanced at the two women and walked over, suddenly plunging the blade into the Tall Woman's chest. With a twist of the handle, she hardly struggled; fear lingered in her eyes as her breath faded away.
"I haven't had enough fun either," Wu Wentao grinned wickedly as he twisted Dan Fengyan's arms behind her back with ease, dislocating her joints effortlessly. He picked up a collar from the bed and fastened it around her neck, dragging the dazed Dan Fengyan out of the cave.
If you were being chased by a horde of hungry Zombies and stumbled into a desolate mountain at night, finding a cave to hide in, would your nerves relax or remain tense?
In such a dilemma, if you thought you were safe inside that cave and suddenly heard a voice that didn't belong to you or your companions, how would you react?
Or simply put, what would your reaction be?
"Comrade, lend me a hand."
Song Jiu's teasing voice echoed like thunder in the quiet night, startling both men and women alike as it exploded in their ears.
The woman let out a blood-curdling scream that sounded like a dolphin's cry; it was as if springs had been installed under her bottom as she jumped high into the air. The piece of meat that Song Jiu had been eyeing fell to the ground, losing its allure.
"Ghost!" The woman was terrified beyond belief and scrambled towards the cave entrance. If it weren't for the man's quick reflexes in stopping her, this Squad would soon be left with only him standing alone.
"Calm down, calm down." The man himself was pale-faced, struggling against his own fear as he held the girl tightly in his arms while staring wide-eyed at the oil drum-like cave, trying to locate the source of the voice.
"Don't panic, stay calm." Song Jiu rubbed his hands together. Seeing that the two didn't seem inclined to escape, he quickly got to the point. "I'm not a ghost; I'm just a poor soul trapped in this mountain like you. Yes, look over here, I'm right here. By the way, the 'Doudou' you mentioned isn't a pet, is it?"
The woman was on the verge of a breakdown, burying her head in the man's arms and completely ignoring Song Jiu's words. Fortunately, the man maintained some composure. Upon hearing the name 'Doudou,' his eyes lit up, and he asked urgently, "Who are you? Where are you? Do you know Doudou?" As soon as he spoke, the woman stopped her frantic screaming and lifted her head in confusion, staring blankly at the flickering light of the cave walls.
Song Jiu thought there might be hope and described the girl's appearance. Noticing the shocked expressions on their faces, he realized he had struck gold.
"Enough chit-chat; I need your help to dig me out. I'll take you to find Doudou. How about that?" Song Jiu stretched his hand through a gap and shook it vigorously. The two seemed unable to locate themselves for a long time, as if they couldn't see the gap from inside the cave.
The man's pupils dilated and then contracted as he stared at a pale hand protruding from a corner of the web-filled cave, feeling an overwhelming sense of strangeness.
"You... you're trapped under the mountain?" The man's mind wasn't exactly sharp at that moment; he thought to himself that he hoped nothing else would pop out next.
"Not really; there's a hollow space behind me. I followed the smell of your Beggar's Chicken here." Song Jiu sniffed and saw that the two were no longer panicking. He took a sheep's horn hammer and pried at the gap, dislodging a clump of dirt.
The woman dared not breathe too loudly, still shaken and unsure of what to do. The man's face was also grim; his mind was in chaos, and his ability to think clearly had yet to return.
"Hurry up! If you delay any longer, your companion will be eaten!" Song Jiu began to fabricate stories without restraint while digging: "There are more than just zombies in this mountain; your companion has been captured by a group of perverts. Tsk tsk tsk, a young and beautiful girl—it's unimaginable what she might endure."
"Who are you? Why should I trust you?" The man swallowed hard and jogged over to the fire to grab a machete for courage. "How do I know you're not some kind of pervert?"
"Believe it or not, if you think I'm lying, you can just turn around and leave. It's not like I can crawl out through this gap and eat you," Song Jiu paused to catch his breath, realizing that digging through this dirt was no easy task. He softened his tone and pleaded for help: "I escaped from that place but ended up swept away by an underground Dark River to who knows where. Meeting is fate; even if you don't believe me, at least help me out a bit—it's really cold here."
"I want proof." The man leaned in closer, peering through the overlapping webs. Indeed, there was a thin Qianqian gap visible ahead, with a pair of eyes darting around behind it as dirt fell steadily.
"If you dig me out, you'll see," Song Jiu lifted the chain around his neck and shook it. "See this? I've got shackles."
The two exchanged glances, momentarily stunned by this unexpected situation. On one hand, they were surprised to learn about Doudou; on the other hand, they were hesitant to trust Song Jiu too easily for fear of unleashing some Pandora's monster.
"Then tell me where Doudou is, and we'll rescue her for you." The man was quite shrewd, quickly shifting the conversation to bargaining.
"You two will only end up dead. Their main base is deep in the cave, and you can't find it from the outside." Song Jiu casually fabricated a few words, stretching out his hand with effort. "There is true emotion in this world; don't be so cold-hearted. You help me get out, and I'll help you save her. If we make a deal, we shake hands; if not, you two can do whatever you want and ignore me. Of course, if I dig my way out myself, I won't be responsible for leading you."
The man swallowed hard, momentarily at a loss. Encountering zombies in the wilderness was already bad luck; now there was an unexpected wild Sun Wukong.
The woman gradually regained her composure. Her concern for her companion overshadowed her rationality as she cautiously approached and asked, "Doudou is still alive, right?"
Song Jiu thought for a moment, trying to make his tone sound as sincere as possible. "I can only tell you that when I saw her, she was still alive."
"When did you see her?"
"About half an hour ago. She was given to a man; by now, they should have started the second round."
The two huddled together and whispered for a while. The woman seemed to believe Song Jiu's words and wanted to help him dig a pit, but the man was very cautious, constantly hypothesizing various conspiracy theories. Their discussion escalated from talking to arguing; the woman insisted on rescuing her while the man adamantly refused, and in their standoff, they ended up at odds.
The man spat in frustration and opened two backpacks to start dividing their supplies, his words filled with resentment. "Why have I bled and sweated all this way? Isn't it just to protect your safety? You would rather believe this suddenly appeared guy than trust me. You've really disappointed me."
The woman refused to back down and retorted, "We agreed that if someone is alive, we should see them; if they're dead, we should see the corpse. He has clearly seen Doudou; why can't we take the risk? If you're too afraid to save her, then I'll go myself."
The man's face showed a wounded expression of misunderstanding as he sniffed and said, "Don't you know how I feel about you? How can you say that? Compared to uncertain information, I care more about your safety!"
The woman was momentarily speechless, staring blankly for a while without speaking. Her gaze drifted toward the divided supplies, her eyes reddening as she choked out, "Alright then, starting to divide the supplies? Hmph! No need to divide; you can take everything. I don't want any."
The man was exasperated and said angrily, "This isn't the time for that! Can you be a bit more rational and not so unreasonable?"
"You actually said I'm unreasonable. Have you been tired of me for a long time? Am I just a burden to you?"
"I didn't mean that. I was saying we need to stay calm and not trust strangers easily."
"That's exactly what you meant! What do you take me for? Am I just your release tool when you're bored?"
"When did I ever say that?"
"You think that way."
