Hou Xiong fell straight down, crashing hard onto Zombie. Looking at Blonde Woman, her expression suggested she wanted to come over and tear apart either Hou Xiong or Ming Junwei.
Still a bit dazed, Hou Xiong finally remembered the important matter when he saw Field Duty: "Right, I need to tell you something. I ran into one of your companions in the city."
"Ah!" Ming Junwei's face changed dramatically as he exclaimed, "Was it a man or a woman?"
Just as Hou Xiong was about to respond, Su Lan and e approached, interrupting him.
"Where did you get that outfit?" e asked with an unfriendly expression. Seeing his own uniform on Hou Xiong meant something significant.
Impatiently waving his hand, Ming Junwei said, "Let him speak first."
"You!" e was furious at this and reached for his gun, but Su Lan quickly stepped in front of him, displeased. "Everyone shut up."
Ignoring her, Ming Junwei turned to Hou Xiong: "Was it a man or a woman?"
"A woman." Since Hou Xiong wasn't very familiar with the relationship between Ming Junwei and the others, he didn't hold back and grinned. "Long legs, didn’t get a chance to ask her name."
"What do you mean by that?" both Ming Junwei and Su Lan asked in unison. His comment seemed to imply something less than favorable.
"Quickly go save her; she's injured and has lost a lot of blood." After being interrupted two or three times, Hou Xiong rolled his eyes and said to Ming Junwei: "I wanted to find something in the hospital, but I got trapped by Zombie."
"It's Yuan An," Ming Junwei sighed in relief, though his expression remained grim. "Is it serious? Where is she?"
"Just some flesh wounds, but she's lost a lot of blood." Remembering the horrific gashes he had seen, Hou Xiong glanced at Su Lan and e, muttering, "Your friends seem a bit twisted; they’ve really messed up a good girl."
Ming Junwei squinted angrily at e. The Blonde Woman was about to explode, but suddenly remembered the woman's underwear found near Gaoyang's body. She felt a surge of frustration; although she found Ming Junwei unpleasant, this matter ultimately stemmed from her own oversight.
Hou Xiong was not very clear about the current situation, but seeing Ming Junwei's confident demeanor, he relaxed a bit. Supporting himself on his arms, he sat up and asked, "How long was I out?"
"About half an hour," Su Lan said as she separated the Blonde Woman and Ming Junwei, moving them to opposite sides. She turned to e and instructed, "Go prepare some personnel. Bring weapons and medical supplies, just in case."
e nodded helplessly, swallowing down her anger for the moment. She shot a fierce glare at Ming Junwei before turning and running out.
"What are you doing?" Ming Junwei supported Hou Xiong and whispered, "Just lie still."
"I'm going to lead you guys," Hou Xiong coughed a couple of times, standing unsteadily. "I don’t even know what that place is called. How are you going to find it?"
"Just give us a rough description; we can figure it out," Su Lan thought to herself how fortunate it was that she had brought him back. If she hadn’t taken a moment to look around when she got out of the car, the Antibody might have bled out in some corner of the city, dying quietly.
Hou Xiong lifted his eyelids and noticed Ming Junwei's expression wasn't good. He asked in confusion, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing," Ming Junwei forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. "Their people are familiar with this area. I’ve been hiding here with you for a day; are you hungry? Let’s have a drink."
"Huh?" Hou Xiong was puzzled, staring at him blankly for a while before suddenly realizing something. He quickly looked down at his body and lifted his shirt hem, revealing a layer of bandaging around his waist soaked in deep red blood. "Wasn’t she supposed to be the Antibody?" Su Lan was also bewildered.
"I did say that, but didn’t your lab say..." Ming Junwei's words tangled as he rolled his eyes and waved his hand dismissively. "In any case, let’s give it a try; maybe I’m wrong."
"I understand now." Su Lan nodded and quickly left the hospital room.
Hou Xiong remained in a daze, watching Su Lan's departing figure as he murmured, "What are you all talking about?"
"You might encounter a girl who could be carrying the Infected Virus or Antibody," Ming Junwei said, finding it somewhat amusing. Just a few hours ago, he had argued fiercely, trying to prove that Yuan An was not an Antibody carrier, and now he was hoping that she would be. It was quite ironic.
"Antibody?" Hou Xiong heard the term for the first time, his expression strange. "Is it something that can help me survive?"
"There’s a chance," Ming Junwei replied cautiously, unable to make any guarantees and only offering a vague answer.
Hou Xiong chuckled lightly, sighing as he said, "You're just trying to comfort me."
"Not entirely; there really is a possibility," Ming Junwei struggled to explain, attempting to instill some hope in him.
"You mentioned that Effie was bitten by a Zombie."
"At that time, Yuan An and the others hadn't come to Roundabout."
"Oh, I see." Hou Xiong nodded thoughtfully.
After a long pause, Hou Xiong looked up with a resigned smile and said, "If it had been you there instead of Song Jiu, it would have been so much better."
Ming Junwei opened his mouth, at a loss for words. He hesitated before saying, "Actually, between you two..."
"I understand," Hou Xiong smiled again. "But I still dislike him."
The rescue operation went much smoother than expected. Regarding the Antibody situation, e mobilized a large number of Field Duty personnel and brought heavy weaponry straight to the street where the flower house was located. They launched an all-out bombardment without regard for losses, nearly destroying half the street and successfully allowing the convoy to enter.
"Move quickly!" e shouted against the pouring rain and hail, gunfire erupting from his hands as he coordinated with Field Duty for cover.
Su Lan arrived at the flower shop accompanied by medical personnel. Through the ventilation window, she finally spotted the target she had been searching for all day.
Yuan An lay motionless on the bed, with Yellow Dog curled up beside her. Upon hearing the commotion outside, Yellow Dog barked furiously at the window.
"The window is too difficult to move," Field Duty said, wiping the rain from his face. He raised his weapon and shot down an approaching Zombie, shouting, "We need to break down the front door!"
Cursing under his breath, he sprinted back to the Heavy Off-Road Vehicle. Leaning out of the window, he signaled for Su Lan and the others to get clear. He slammed the accelerator to the floor and crashed into the shop door with a deafening roar. The door collapsed and shattered, sending the counter that had been propped against it crashing to the ground in a chaotic mess.
Su Lan immediately rushed in, moved a square table blocking the entrance, and hurried inside to lift Yuan An onto a stretcher.
The medical personnel quickly began their examination, their faces darkening. "Su, she can't hold on much longer."
A chill ran through Su Lan's heart as she snapped, "She can't die. Save her!"
"She needs a blood transfusion; we can't stay here long," one of the medical staff replied helplessly.
"You just need to save her; nothing else matters. Tell me how long it will take."
"At least..." The medical personnel gritted their teeth. "At least half an hour."
"I'll give you fifteen minutes. No matter what it takes, she must survive." Su Lan's voice was icy as she turned and ran back outside.
He had already turned the Cabin around; the surrounding Horde was drawn in by the sound of explosions, and the street was quickly becoming blocked.
"Let's go!" He saw Su Lan emerge and hurriedly started the vehicle, but he noticed that none of the medical team had come out yet.
"Hold on for twenty minutes." Su Lan rushed into the rain, raising her arm to shield her head, and shouted by the car window, "We need to treat her here; Antibody can't hold on much longer."
"What?" E exclaimed in shock, anger flaring. "We can't hold them off for that long. Get in the car and let the medical team work inside!"
Su Lan hesitated, glancing at the Heavy Off-Road Vehicle and the increasing number of Zombies surrounding them. She had no choice but to return to the greenhouse.
The Medical Team had already hooked Yuan An up to Blood Plasma, with two nurses frantically bandaging her wounds. The damage from the iron hook was extensive; regular bandaging wouldn't suffice, and sutures were necessary. However, the nurses' hands trembled, making it impossible for them to perform the treatment.
"Can we move her now?" Su Lan asked urgently.
"We don't know if she has internal injuries. If it's just what we can see—"
"I'm asking if you can move her now!"
"Yes, yes."
"Get her in the car for treatment."
Thunder rumbled ominously as dark clouds gathered.
A large number of Zombie Militias had congregated at the Yard Gate, and news had spread that most of the armed forces in the city were concentrated there. The Launch Site Laboratory was ready, just waiting for Antibody's condition to stabilize. The Heavy Off-Road Vehicle sped towards them, almost crashing through the building entrance. Su Lan jumped out of the vehicle; the Medical Team was already on standby at the door, rolling out a Surgical Bed and working together to lift the unconscious Yuan An onto it.
"The laboratory requests immediate transport of Antibody," a medical team member stated.
"First, get her inside for an examination to see if there are any other injuries," Su Lan shook her head, wiping the rainwater from her face with a towel. "Her wounds need to be sutured again."
"But the laboratory—"
"Do I need to repeat myself?" Su Lan shouted, pushing aside the medical staff and quickly running up the stairs. She burst into Ming Junwei's hospital room, unable to hide her excitement. "I found it! I found it!"
Sitting by the window, Ming Junwei turned around and smiled. "How is she?"
"Don't worry." Su Lan let out a long sigh of relief, leaning against the door to catch her breath. Suddenly, she froze, staring at the empty hospital bed. Hesitantly, she asked, "Where is he?"
Ming Junwei sighed sadly and shook his head gently. "The transformation process was faster than we imagined."
"How could this happen?" Su Lan felt her strength drain away, as if she had run a marathon only to find out that the race was already over. That sense of helplessness was something she hadn't experienced in a long time. Even though she didn't know Hou Xiong well, and even though whether Yuan An was an Antibody was still up for debate.
"I don't know." Ming Junwei rubbed his stiff face vigorously and sighed. "Maybe it's because he was already infected with the Powder Virus or something; I really don't know."
Outside, the wind howled and thunder rumbled. Blue arcs of lightning streaked across the sky, a pale light flashing and disappearing in an instant. The City of the Walking Dead was filled with blood and gore.
