I shuddered, my face pale, but weakly shook my head. With a lifeless expression, I said, "How could it possibly be me? Even if I tried my hardest, using all my strength, I couldn't even touch a hair on you!" 0

"In that case, should I kill you?" she said as she slowly walked closer to me, her demeanor suggesting she was truly ready to strike. Mu Yan looked on with vigilance, his gaze fixed on her every move. Mingyue spoke urgently, "Great Sage, don't act rashly. He isn't the one, but there is someone who is." 0

"Who?" She halted in her tracks, turning around with a chilling tone. 0

"Gu Chen." Upon hearing this name, Mingyue sighed in relief as she quickly revealed it. The Hu Family Immortal furrowed her brow, a look of suspicion crossing her face as she replied coolly, "The Gu Chen from Taoist Nine Meridians?" 0

"Exactly," Mingyue nodded respectfully once more. 0

"Hmph, so what?" In my earlier agitation, I had even forgotten to mention my master's name; fortunately, Mingyue had come through at the crucial moment. Seeing her expression, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. However, her cold snort sent me plummeting back into despair. It was over; even my master's name couldn't deter her! 0

My face turned pale again as I braced myself for death. Mingyue also seemed to lose all strength upon hearing this. I knew it was because the last shred of hope she held onto had shattered along with it. 0

However, unexpectedly, just as we were all sinking into despair, the Hu Family Immortal's gaze fell upon me once more as she asked, "What is your relationship with Gu Chen?" 0

I quickly replied, "I am his disciple." 0

"You are Gu Chen's disciple?" She raised an eyebrow and scrutinized me with disbelief. I nodded vigorously. Then she turned her gaze to Mingyue, who looked back at her with renewed hope and nodded firmly. 0

"Is he really Gu Chen's disciple?" Yet she still frowned slightly, seemingly unconvinced. She looked at me and said, "With Gu Chen's abilities, how could he possibly take on a disciple like you? This doesn't add up!" 0

Her words left me speechless; I wished I could find a hole to hide in as my face burned with embarrassment. But for the sake of survival, I hurriedly insisted, "It's absolutely true; I am indeed Gu Chen's disciple." 0

"Fine, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now. However, you need to present something that can prove your identity; otherwise, don't say I didn't give you a chance." 0

I paused for a moment—something that could prove my identity? The Lark's Secret Record? That should be able to demonstrate that I'm Gu Chen's disciple! With this thought in mind, I glanced at her with some concern about whether she would try to snatch it from me once I revealed it. But then I remembered she was a monster; while the Lark's Secret Record was precious for human cultivation and research purposes, it likely wouldn't be of much use to her even if she stole it. 0

So without hesitation, I took out one volume of the Lark's Secret Record—Demonology—and cautiously looked at her with fear in my eyes as I dared not approach too closely. When she saw what I held in my hand but noticed my hesitance, she extended her delicate hand towards me. Suddenly, an immense force emanated from her palm that I couldn't resist; instinctively, I loosened my grip. 0

The Demonology flew directly into her hands. 0

"Demonology." She glanced at it and frowned slightly before reading aloud. After flipping through it briefly, she remarked thoughtfully, "I didn't expect that old fellow Gu Chen would delve so deeply into our demon clan's studies; it's truly frightening!" 0

As soon as she took the Demonology from me, my eyes remained glued to her with tension because I wasn't sure if this would prove my identity. However, when I heard her say those words, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. Her acknowledgment meant that she recognized the Demonology and knew it belonged to Gu Chen; thus indirectly confirming that I was indeed his disciple. 0

A few minutes later, she lifted her gaze back to me and waved her hand to toss the Demonology back at me. I quickly caught it and tucked it away safely. Her eyes fell on me again as she asked coldly, "Where is your master?" 0

"I don't know," I replied hastily. 0

"You don't know?" She frowned slightly and pressed further: "Then what are you doing here in the Taihang Mountains?" 0

"I'm looking for something," I answered without thinking. 0

"What are you looking for? Tell me," she seemed quite interested. 0

"Can’t I keep that to myself?" 0

She shook her head and waved a slender finger in front of me lightly: "No way! Otherwise, even if you're Gu Chen's disciple, I'll still play with you until you're dead." 0

"Play with me until I'm dead?" My eyes widened as I scrutinized her again; an evil thought crossed my mind in that instant. She nodded and seeing my gaze lingered on her; it seemed like she was deliberately flaunting herself: "That's right—play with you until you're dead." 0

I instinctively shrank back and broke out in a cold sweat all over. Damn it! I wanted nothing more than to slap myself across the face for harboring such thoughts about someone like her! Quickly spilling out words like beans from a bamboo tube, I said: "I'm here to find Song Gan, Yellow Cicada, Giant Python Spine, Hundred-Year Lingzhi... and lastly..." 0

I hesitated as my gaze flickered toward her. 0

"What’s the last thing? Hurry up!" She said coldly. 0

"Ninetailed Fox Blood," I blurted out weakly after seeing her expression. 0

She seemed taken aback for a moment before narrowing her eyes at me suspiciously and asking curiously: "What do you need these things for?" 0

She was the ancestor of foxes; mentioning Ninetailed Fox Blood made me fear provoking her wrath. Seeing that she didn't explode in anger allowed me to breathe easier. However, when asked this question by her again made me unsure how to respond. Glancing at Mingyue for support and seeing her nodding at me gave me the courage to answer: "Demon King's Cauldron." 0

"Demon King's Cauldron..." She paused again but then nodded understandingly: "I see." 0

Then scanning the villagers around us with suddenly icy eyes and a deep tone added: "This time I'll let these villagers go because of Gu Chen's face; however if anyone dares to hunt members of my Fox Clan again in the future—this Immortal will personally slaughter your entire village." 0

Her tone was chilling; no one would doubt her words. But everyone instantly sighed in relief because they understood that by saying this meant their lives were spared for now. 0

Then her gaze returned to me as she said slowly: "But let me tell you something—I’m not afraid of your master; rather it's because I'm indebted to him for a favor that you're lucky today." 0

I was shocked by this revelation and found it hard to believe that this ancestor of foxes owed my master a favor! This was something I'd have to ask about another day—what kind of favor could save both my life and those of all the villagers? 0

As Hu Family Immortal—a being revered among all foxes—her words carried weight beyond doubt. Thus everyone felt reassured knowing they had nothing more to worry about while all villagers promised before her never to hunt foxes again when going up the mountain. 0

Finally satisfied with this outcome, Hu Family Immortal transformed into a wisp of white vapor and vanished before my eyes. Yet before leaving she imparted one last piece of advice which instantly cast a shadow over my face—leaving me feeling trapped between two choices. 0
