I couldn't find anything, so I quickly grabbed a bottle of white wine from the table, pouring out its contents as I rushed into the yard.
My mom, seeing this, was puzzled and asked, "Son, what are you doing?"
In that moment, they could only see me striking Mu Yan repeatedly with the Peach Wood Sword, which was affixed with a Yellow Talisman.
However, they couldn't see that I had already forced Mu Yan's ghost out of her body, which was why they were confused.
But I didn't have time to explain because Mu Yan's ghost was still floating in the yard.
I stepped forward and without hesitation began to chant: "Sky Blue, Vast Earth, Sun and Moon, Assist Me in Unleashing Divine Light."
As my voice fell, I quickly produced a Yellow Talisman from my hand and slammed it against the bottom of the bottle. The bottom of the bottle lifted high, aiming the opening directly at Mu Yan as I shouted, "Gather!"
As soon as I spoke, the Yellow Talisman I pressed against the bottom of the bottle flashed with a yellow light. A tremendous suction force emanated from the bottle, pulling Mu Yan's ghost inside like lightning.
Seeing her ghost trapped within the bottle, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. I quickly placed the talisman on the mouth of the bottle and pressed it down with my hand. "Mom, go find me a piece of red string."
My mom nodded despite her confusion and hurried into the room to find a piece of red thread for sewing. I wrapped that red string around the mouth of the bottle twice over the talisman before finally stopping.
Seeing my expression relax, my dad furrowed his brow and walked over.
My mom still looked shaken as she watched me. Liu Man stood nearby, stunned into silence; it was clear that everything that had just happened had completely overturned her understanding of this world.
Though my parents didn't say anything, I knew their minds were filled with questions.
I glanced at Mu Yan lying motionless on the ground before turning my gaze to my parents. Not wanting to hide any longer, I said directly, "Mom and Dad, I've actually wanted to tell you this for a long time but never found the right opportunity. Now that you've seen everything, there's no need for me to keep it a secret anymore."
I paused slightly, my gaze fixed on them as I spoke again, "Mu Yan, Mu Yan is not human."
"She is not human."
As my words fell, a brief silence ensued, and my father seemed momentarily taken aback.
I nodded deeply and continued, "Strictly speaking, she is not a living person; her soul has been fused with a physical form through secret methods."
After I finished speaking, I looked at them. They fell silent once more. After a long while, my father sighed heavily, his eyes fixed on Mu Yan lying on the ground. "No wonder she is like this."
I nodded in agreement. After a pause, my father continued, "When night fell, she suddenly changed into this state. It scared your mother and me terribly. However, it was clear that she was worried about harming us in some way, so she asked us to tie her up with ropes. That made us feel a bit better."
"She asked you to tie her up?" I said, slightly surprised.
My father's face remained pale as he replied, "Of course it was her idea. Otherwise, your mother and I wouldn't have had the courage to do it; we would have probably run away by now."
"That's true," my mother chimed in, nodding. "After we tied her up, we hurriedly called you without wasting a moment."
As she spoke, my mother pointed at Mu Yan lying on the ground and asked, "Son, what's wrong with this girl? Why isn't she moving?"
Her voice sounded somewhat awkward. I understood that since I had just mentioned Mu Yan was not human, referring to her as 'girl' felt strange for her.
I glanced at Liu Man standing nearby. She had recovered from her earlier shock but still looked at me with disbelief written all over her face.
I said, "Now you should believe that there are demons in this world and it's not just superstition."
Seeing is believing. Liu Man nodded, unable to retort.
Since she had followed me and witnessed everything that had just happened, I didn’t hide anything from her. I turned to my parents and said, “Mu Yan’s soul was just expelled from my body; it’s now in this bottle.”
Liu Man looked at me in disbelief and asked, “You captured her?”
I shook my head. “Not captured; I’ve temporarily placed her here for her safety.”
My mother, still looking somewhat shaken, couldn’t help but ask, “Son, will this harm her?”
I slightly shook my head. “No, it’s much better than leaving her out there.”
“That’s good to hear.” My mother finally seemed to relax.
My father nodded gently and said, “Though Mu Yan isn’t human, she doesn’t seem to have a bad nature. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have let your mother and me tie her up.”
I nodded in agreement. It was clear that Mu Yan acted that way because she feared losing control and harming my parents.
A wave of emotion washed over me as I gazed at the bottle in my hand. Inside, a mass of black mist swirled around—clearly Mu Yan’s spirit.
Liu Man, curious now, asked, “Who is she? How did she end up in your home?”
My father furrowed his brow slightly and spoke with a serious tone, “Xiao Lin, what exactly is going on here?”
My mother remained silent, but a hint of sadness flickered across her face.
I understood their feelings at that moment; they had originally thought they were bringing home a daughter-in-law, but unexpectedly, it was not a living person.
Thinking about it, it was indeed hard to accept.
I sighed lightly and said, "Dad, it's a long story. I'll tell you when I have time."
Then I turned my gaze back to Liu Man and said seriously, "Can you do me a favor?"
"What is it that I can help you with?" Liu Man asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Can you bring some people to guard here for the night?" I said with a grave tone.
"The police?" Liu Man frowned.
"Yes," I nodded.
She hesitated slightly and said, "I can do that, but even if I bring someone over, I need a reason. I can't just misuse my authority."
I handed the bottle in my hand to my mother and asked her to put it away in the house. Then I pointed at Mu Yan on the ground and said to Liu Man, "You see her like this because someone wants to harm her, and that person’s main goal is to harm me. She is likely nearby in our village, so I could be in danger at any moment. I need your protection."
The reason I sought Liu Man's help was out of necessity; I was worried that Yang Yi would come looking for me. At that moment, Mao Guoxue hadn't arrived yet, and facing Yang Yi alone would surely end badly for me.
If there were a large group of police here, then even if Yang Yi was formidable, he would probably think twice before acting recklessly.
"That person is quite powerful," Liu Man remarked, frowning slightly at my words.
I nodded; there was no denying that Yang Yi was indeed impressive.
Liu Man also nodded and said, "Alright then."
As she spoke, she made a phone call to the office, finding an excuse to say that there might still be some issues here and that they needed to dispatch some personnel to help.
Just as she hung up the phone, there was a knock at the door.
I froze for a moment, and my parents, along with Liu Man, looked nervously toward the door.
In the dead of night, who would come knocking at this hour?
Taking a deep breath, I clenched my fists tightly and walked step by step to the front door, slowly opening it.
At the moment the door swung open, illuminated by the light from inside and the moonlight outside, a shadowy face appeared before me, wearing a sinister grin.
The person knocking was none other than Yang Yi. At that moment, we stood face to face, just a step apart.
