I stood there in a daze, astonished by the presence of Mingyue, amazed by her abilities, and equally shocked by Grandma Jiang's words.
Initially, I had little understanding of the Unloading Gate; all I knew was that it was powerful, much like Mingyue herself.
However, the scene before me completely overturned my previous perceptions.
Especially at night, the woods on the nearby desolate mountains were ablaze with light. Torches illuminated the darkness as brightly as day, and eventually, all these torches converged in one direction.
"It seems they have found Yang Yi," Mao Guoxue sighed softly, gazing toward the brightly lit area.
I, along with Grandma Jiang, Xiao Juan, Mu Yan, Liu Man, and my parents, stood beside Mao Guoxue, our eyes fixed on that radiant direction, sharing a moment of silence.
The torches moved like a fire dragon, and soon a cacophony of voices echoed back toward us.
Mingyue led the way, followed by those she had gathered. They rushed toward us with great energy.
I stared blankly at Mingyue as she approached. After glancing at me, she calmly said, "Yang Yi has been found."
With that, she turned around and coldly commanded those behind her, "Please bring him over."
"Alright," came several responses from the crowd.
As her voice faded, a group emerged from the throng, dragging a bound Yang Yi toward me and unceremoniously tossing him onto the ground.
"Yang Yi!"
Instinctively, I took a step back, surprised to see him in such a state.
Yang Yi lay on the ground, stripped of his earlier bravado. One of his legs had been shot by my father and was now soaked in blood. It was clear he had struggled before ending up like this.
The number of people brought by Mingyue this time was simply overwhelming. No matter how formidable Yang Yi was, he was no match for them.
He lifted his head, casting a glance at me with a hint of a cold smirk. "Kid, don't get too proud. If it weren't for her, you wouldn't stand a chance against me."
As he spoke, his gaze swept over Mingyue standing nearby. However, when he noticed Mao Guoxue and Grandma Jiang beside her, he suddenly laughed again, gritting his teeth. "My method of corpse manipulation has been broken. I knew you would come; I really guessed right."
"That's right, we are here. But you certainly didn't expect the Unloading Gate people to show up as well, and in such numbers," Mao Guoxue said calmly.
Upon hearing this, a flicker of malice crossed Yang Yi's face as he sneered, "Life and death are in your hands now. If you want to kill me, go ahead. But there's a police officer here; I don't believe you dare to kill in front of her."
With that, he wore a mocking expression and turned his gaze toward Liu Man.
Liu Man's police uniform was strikingly obvious; anyone could tell her identity, especially since she had previously shown her badge in front of Yang Yi.
Liu Man bit her lip slightly, her brows furrowed as she looked at Yang Yi but spoke to me. "Lin Hao, although he's not a good person, I must remind you: if you kill in front of me, I absolutely cannot turn a blind eye."
Her words darkened my expression. I opened my mouth to speak, but at that moment, Mao Guoxue couldn't help but let out a laugh.
Yang Yi immediately fixed his gaze on him. "What are you laughing at?"
Mao Guoxue replied nonchalantly, "I'm laughing at you, of course."
"Hmph! Don't get too smug, Mao. If it weren't for the numbers on your side from the Unloading Gate, do you think you could do anything to me?" Yang Yi retorted with a cold snort.
Mao Guoxue straightened his expression and nodded. "True, if it were just me alone, I wouldn't have much confidence in dealing with you. But that's not what I'm laughing about."
"What is it then?" Yang Yi scoffed again.
Mao Guoxue replied lightly, "It's what you said that amuses me."
"What I said?" Yang Yi paused for a moment upon hearing this, and then his expression darkened instantly as he appeared dejected.
"Understood," Mao Guoxue asked lightly.
"Let's get to it," Yang Yi suddenly became very decisive at that moment.
"Second Uncle," I glanced at Mao Guoxue and called out softly.
If it were up to me, I would have killed Yang Yi right then and there.
As long as he was alive, I would never find peace.
So now that we had finally captured Yang Yi, his life could not be spared.
"There's no rush," Mao Guoxue understood my thoughts and said calmly.
I nodded slightly. I trusted Mao Guoxue immensely; since he said so, there must be a reason behind it.
Liu Man's gaze kept darting between me, Mao Guoxue, and Yang Yi. Her brows were tightly furrowed as she hesitantly asked, "What exactly are you planning to do?"
I ignored her, but Mao Guoxue suddenly smiled and said, "Don't worry, we won't kill him. In fact, we'll take good care of him."
Saying this, he turned to me and added, "Xiao Lin, hurry up and take him inside to tend to his injuries."
Although I was surprised by his words, I followed Mao Guoxue's instructions and, along with my dad, carried Yang Yi into the house and placed him on the sofa.
For the next few days, Yang Yi's treatment was indeed not bad—he had plenty of food and drink. Following Mao Guoxue's advice, I even found a doctor to clean and bandage his wounds.
We also untied all the ropes binding him; however, his hands and feet were secured with chains.
I couldn't be blamed for this; Yang Yi was incredibly strong. Even with Mao Guoxue, Grandma Jiang, and Mingyue present, we still had to be cautious.
For several consecutive days, Liu Man stayed at my house.
The bright moon had already sent away those at the Unloading Gate. When Yang Yi was almost healed, Mao Guoxue suggested returning to Jintan, and he intended to take Yang Yi along.
As they were leaving, Liu Man repeatedly warned them, emphasizing the seriousness of committing murder.
Mao Guoxue merely smiled in response, lightly saying, "Don't worry, I, Mao Guoxue, won't kill anyone."
Not only that, but in front of Liu Man, Mao Guoxue also unlocked all the chains on Yang Yi and tossed them to the ground. Seeing this, Liu Man had no choice but to relent.
I could only watch as Yang Yi followed behind Mao Guoxue. A heavy sigh of relief escaped my heart; the enormous weight that had been pressing down on me was finally lifted.
Because the Yang Yi following Mao Guoxue was no longer a living person; he was merely a shell controlled by another spirit.
Of course, Liu Man would never know this, nor would anyone tell her.
This is the mystery of Maoshan Techniques—killing without a trace.
A simple switch had fooled Liu Man's eyes.
