It was not far from Grandma Jiang's house. Originally, Mingyue intended to ignore Xiao Juan and return to Upper Clear Academy with Mao Guoxue.
Although Xiao Juan had fainted on the ground, Jin Zhongyun remained here and would take care of things.
However, after walking just a few steps, Mingyue suddenly remembered that when she and Mao Shiba were chasing after Xiao Juan, Mu Yan had been trapped by Grandma Jiang using the Tianyan Huigui Hunting Diagram.
Even Mingyue could feel the inexplicable power emanating from those golden characters, an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Mao Shiba had turned back to intervene, but whether he could stop Grandma Jiang or help Mu Yan escape from danger remained uncertain.
Now, not only had Mu Yan not appeared, but even Mao Shiba had not returned, which inevitably caused concern.
Of course, even if Mao Shiba could not defeat Grandma Jiang, as a fellow Taoist of the Nine Meridians and with Mao Guoxue's backing, Grandma Jiang would not make things difficult for him. So there was no need to worry about Mao Shiba's safety.
The only concern was for Mu Yan. For Xiao Juan's sake, it was likely that Grandma Jiang would act against him. If Grandma Jiang were to be ruthless towards Mu Yan, the outcome would be unimaginable.
Upon hearing that Mu Yan was trapped by Grandma Jiang, Mao Guoxue was momentarily stunned. After understanding the situation, he did not hesitate and immediately suggested they go back to check.
The two turned around again and woke Xiao Juan up.
Mingyue and Mao Guoxue did not tell Xiao Juan that Lin Hao was still alive. As for Jin Zhongyun, his mind was likely blank at this moment; the impact of this trip to Jintan had been significant for him, so he wouldn’t say much.
Although Xiao Juan had awakened, he felt as if all his strength had been drained away; he could barely muster the energy to walk.
Mingyue was from the Unloading Gate and was strong. Without hesitation, she picked up Xiao Juan and carried him. When they arrived at Grandma Jiang's courtyard, she and Mao Shiba were still in a standoff.
Grandma Jiang still held the Tianyan Huigui Hunting Diagram in her hands. Although the golden characters in the void had distanced themselves from Mu Yan, they still formed a trap around him.
As soon as Grandma Jiang hardened her heart, she could probably kill Mu Yan in an instant. Clearly, the outcome depended entirely on Grandma Jiang's thoughts.
"Grandma Jiang."
The moment Mao Guoxue entered the courtyard, he called out.
Grandma Jiang glanced over and couldn't help but sneer, "Mao Guoxue, you actually came."
Mao Guoxue scanned the air where Mu Yan was suspended and sighed, "What would you have done if I hadn't come?"
"What would I have done?"
Grandma Jiang repeated the words but did not answer. It was evident that she was also hesitating at this moment.
Just as Mao Shiba had said, if Mu Yan was indeed related to Mu Emperor, then if Grandma Jiang took action against Mu Yan today, she would undoubtedly face retaliation from Mu Emperor. She might be fine herself, but what about Xiao Juan?
The Demon Emperor was not to be compared with the Ghost King; although they were only one level apart, their strengths were like heaven and earth—there was no comparison whatsoever.
Thus, even Grandma Jiang dared not act hastily.
At that moment, Mingyue entered from outside with Xiao Juan on her back. Upon seeing the situation, Grandma Jiang's expression immediately turned cold. "Mao Guoxue, what have you done to my granddaughter?"
Seeing this, Mao Guoxue realized that Grandma Jiang had misunderstood and quickly explained, "Grandma Jiang, please don't get it wrong. We haven't done anything to Xiao Juan; she fainted from the shock."
"Unable to bear the blow, what does that mean?" Grandma Jiang was taken aback, her brow slightly furrowed.
Mingyue's expression was cold as she looked at Grandma Jiang and placed Xiao Juan on the ground, saying lightly, "Lin Hao is dead."
"What?"
Upon hearing this, Grandma Jiang's expression changed, as if she couldn't believe it. "You said Lin Hao is dead?"
She glanced at Mingyue, then at Xiao Juan lying on the ground, and finally turned her gaze to Mao Guoxue.
Mao Guoxue took a deep breath and nodded affirmatively. "Yes, Lin Hao is dead."
"Impossible! How could this happen? How could he die?" Grandma Jiang's words were sharp; she still did not believe it.
But it was evident that her emotions were in turmoil. Her hands trembled slightly, as if they might fall at any moment. The distance between the golden characters in the air and Mu Yan was widening.
"Yes, he is dead. I killed him with a rock."
Just as Mao Guoxue and Mingyue were pondering how to respond in a way that would convince Grandma Jiang, Jin Zhongyun stumbled in. He appeared dejected, each step seeming so weak, as if he were drunk.
"You... you killed him with a rock?"
Grandma Jiang's gaze suddenly fell on Jin Zhongyun.
"Yes, it was me." Jin Zhongyun nodded again.
Without the chance to ask for reasons, and though still somewhat skeptical, Grandma Jiang was not someone who could be easily fooled by a few words. She coldly stated, "Very well, if you say you killed him, then where is his body?"
"The body?"
Jin Zhongyun let out a cold laugh, not answering Grandma Jiang's question but instead smiling as he asked, "Isn't there a river not far from your home down the mountain?"
Grandma Jiang's expression darkened as she nodded in acknowledgment.
Jin Zhongyun continued leisurely, "If you want to find his body, then you should go look in that river. The current isn't strong; if it hasn't sunk, you might still find it."
"You threw his body into the river," Grandma Jiang's tone grew even colder upon hearing this.
Jin Zhongyun did not respond; he simply leaned against the courtyard wall, looking listless, with a self-mocking smile lingering on his face.
Grandma Jiang's breathing quickened. Suddenly, unable to contain her anger any longer, she shouted, "You have destroyed my granddaughter's happiness! No matter who you are, I will kill you!"
As her voice fell, she abruptly put away the Tianyan Huigui Hunting Diagram and charged towards Jin Zhongyun.
Jin Zhongyun remained indifferent, still leaning against the wall without moving.
However, Mingyue suddenly stepped forward without a word and blocked Grandma Jiang's path.
At that moment, Mu Yan, surrounded by characters radiating golden light in mid-air, let out a long howl. As Grandma Jiang retracted the Tianyan Huigui Hunting Diagram, an overwhelming aura of fury erupted from Mu Yan's body. With surging Ghostly Energy, he swooped down directly towards Grandma Jiang.
Waving his hands, his ten sharp fingernails glinted with a chilling light in the darkness, resembling swords aimed at taking Grandma Jiang's life.
"How audacious," Mao Guoxue thought as he stood by, unable to remain indifferent. With a cold snort, he stepped forward, ready to take action.
Grandma Jiang also turned around, her expression turning icy as a dazzling cold light erupted from her eyes. She spoke sternly, "You seek your own death."
With that, she did not continue reciting the Tianyan Huigui Hunting Diagram. Instead, she opened it directly and hurled it toward Mu Yan, who was charging in like lightning.
The golden light blazed forth as the Tianyan Huigui Hunting Diagram left Grandma Jiang's grasp, expanding and shining even brighter than before.
What was even more terrifying was that amidst the blinding golden light, a figure emerged from the ancient painting.
With a leopard-like head and fierce eyes, dressed in a red robe that fluttered as if alive, he held a Judge's Brush in his hand, appearing almost like a real person.
His copper bell-like eyes locked onto Mu Yan. With a casual flick of the Judge's Brush, a golden beam shot out. Mu Yan let out a piercing scream as he was sent flying backward through the air, his body crackling with energy like he had been struck by lightning.
Yet his momentum did not wane; he took another step in mid-air and raised the Judge's Brush once more.
He resembled Zhong Kui.
