As I stepped out of the corridor, Master Xiao followed me. We exited the warehouse and walked near the security room. I let out a sigh of relief and turned around to see Master Xiao grinning like a fool, chuckling to himself with a look of schadenfreude, as if to say, "Finally, I scared you too." I found his expression somewhat exasperating. I opened the door to the security room and walked in, finding a chair to sit down. Pulling out a cigarette, I asked, "Stop laughing. If you could handle it, why did you call me? You must have been scared stiff back then too." He stopped laughing and said in a serious tone, "This situation is quite troublesome; it's not as simple as you think." 0

I was taken aback. "Three Vengeful Spirits appearing at once? That's no small matter. What kind of job did you take on? If two more show up, you'll either be wishing for death or actually wanting to die. But with your looks, living doesn't seem worthwhile anyway; don't drag me down with you. I'm still young and have a bright future ahead." 0

He quickly replied, "It's not as exaggerated as you say. I believe that with my brute strength, your intelligence, and our skills combined, we should be fine; otherwise, I wouldn't have called you over so recklessly." At that moment, he was flattering me just right without leaving any trace. 0

I nodded in agreement with his assessment and tossed the Cloth Bag onto the table. As I began to untie the knot, I said, "So should we deal with those three inside first before tackling what you said is complicated?" He replied, "No, not yet. Let me explain first. I've already handled some of this; it wasn't so complicated at first. Tonight we won't be able to deal with these three Bosses." Unlike my terminology, he preferred to refer to the Spirit Gods as Bosses. 0

"Since we can't handle it tonight, let's leave for now and find a Late-Night Snack Stall where we can eat and talk," I suggested. To be honest, after all my running around today without eating, my stomach had begun to protest. 0

"Sure, I'll take you there. Let's have a good chat tonight; wait for me here," he said before turning and leaving the security room. Looking at the distant warehouse, I began to ponder. If these Vengeful Spirits were particularly fierce, I'd need backup if I encountered them alone. With just Master Xiao and me together now, it should be manageable since from their outward behavior, these three Vengeful Spirits didn't seem too harmful. If they were dangerous, sneaking up on them would have already alerted them; they wouldn't give me a chance to spy on them. Yet Master Xiao insisted it wasn't that simple—what else could be complicated? 0

Just as my thoughts deepened, I heard a beeping sound. Looking up out the window, I saw Master Xiao sitting on a motorcycle with an air of confidence as if he were riding a white horse instead of a bike. I grabbed the Cloth Bag and exited the security room to hop on the motorcycle as we sped toward a Late-Night Snack Stall. On the way there, I remarked, "Do you know stealing motorcycles can get you arrested?" Knowing he originally came from Shanghai for work made it hard for me to believe he rode this motorcycle all the way here. He dismissed my concern casually: "This was provided by the Victim; I've been here for three or four days." 0

Upon arriving at the Late-Night Snack Stall and seeing him still wearing that mischievous grin, I decided to take advantage of him by ordering something slightly more expensive but not quite right—though he didn't seem to mind since even the most expensive items there weren't overly pricey. 0

After several rounds of drinks and dishes had passed by, Master Xiao began recounting how this whole situation started. The following events are based on his narration and pertain to an independent matter he handled; for clarity's sake, I'll present this as a story. 0

The protagonist of this story is Master Xiao—a member of an orthodox Taoist sect—a burly man with dark skin and low attractiveness. 0

Like me, Master Xiao was a child of hardship from the countryside. He began his cultivation journey after graduating from Junior High School at thirteen years old while working on the farm simultaneously—unlike me who studied while learning—allowing him to master Daoist Arts while also building impressive muscles. He was indeed someone unafraid of ghosts; aside from being single-minded in his work due to his appearance, he had no other significant flaws. 0

After completing his training, he ventured alone to Shanghai for rather amusing reasons: he was infatuated with Ding Li from Shanghai's nightlife scene. In his own words: "If I can't see Ding Li, I still want to feel his presence in places he once frequented." 0

The latest victim was Xiao Wei, the daughter-in-law of the boss of the Wig Factory. She was someone who cared a lot about her appearance. A year ago, she had injured her head and had to shave all her hair off for treatment. Now, a year later, although her hair had grown back, she preferred long hair and decided to get extensions. Coincidentally, her family was in the wig business and had plenty of real hair available, so she found a bundle of high-quality hair in the factory and had it attached to her own hair at a salon. 0

Hair extensions, also known as weaves, involve a technique where real human hair is bonded to one's natural hair. This allows short hair to instantly transform into long flowing locks, and with highlights, it creates a layered effect without damaging one's own hair. In simple terms, it means attaching someone else's hair to your own, making short hair appear long. 0

However, most ordinary wigs are made from synthetic materials rather than real human hair. Weaves, on the other hand, are made from genuine human hair. In the past, many people would collect hair from various sources, but this has become increasingly rare. One thing is certain: some of the true hair used today comes from crematoriums. A friend of mine who works at a crematorium told me that after preparing a body for viewing by relatives, they push it into the cremation chamber—not in front of the grieving family. If the deceased is a woman with long hair, before pushing her into the furnace, someone will cut off her hair and gather it to sell to vendors or wig factories for processing. This way, they profit from this macabre practice without anyone being aware of it. As a result, some people encounter strange occurrences related to their hair—like finding an unexpected strand at home. 0

Three nights after Xiao Wei got her extensions, strange things began happening. Every night as she slept, she felt someone tugging at her hair, almost continuously throughout the night. Since Xiao Wei had a two-year-old child and her husband was away on business trips, she slept with her son every night. Initially, she thought it was just her son playing around and dismissed it as an adjustment issue since the extensions were not her natural hair. 0

However, on the second night, Xiao Wei groggily felt someone pulling her hair again and woke up annoyed. When she turned to scold her son for misbehaving, she found him sound asleep without any signs of having pulled her hair. The bedroom had a dim light for safety reasons due to the child; it wasn't bright but enough for her to see clearly. 0

She looked around but saw nothing unusual and tried to go back to sleep. Yet fear began creeping in because the sensation of someone tugging at her hair was too strong to ignore. She no longer believed it was just an illusion. Turning onto her side to face her son while watching him sleep peacefully added to her unease. 0

After about half an hour of waiting, she dozed off again but was soon jolted awake by another tugging sensation. It was evident that someone was still pulling at her hair. Fully awake now, she quickly sat up in bed and shouted, "Who?" But there was no response; nothing was visible except for her two-year-old son waking up. 0

When he opened his eyes, he didn’t cry at first but stared blankly at a corner behind the door for several seconds before bursting into tears and pointing at that spot. The commotion startled Xiao Wei's grandmother-in-law awake. They rushed in to ask what had happened and if there had been a break-in. Xiao Wei shook her head; she couldn't bring herself to say she thought she saw a ghost since she hadn’t actually seen anything. 0

After calming the child down together, Xiao Wei's grandmother-in-law returned to bed. At this point, Xiao Wei began doubting whether there really was a ghost in the room. However, with the child asleep and her grandmother-in-law nearby, she tried not to think too much about it and drifted off again. 0

But good dreams didn’t last long; it felt like ages had passed when Xiao Wei woke up again due to another pulling sensation—this time different from before. The force was stronger than during previous incidents and came with rapid tugs as if someone were yanking on her hair vigorously while shaking their hand quickly. To make matters worse, she heard a faint voice near her ear saying: "Hair, my hair... you still..." After experiencing those earlier disturbances, Xiao Wei snapped awake quickly this time but didn’t sit up immediately. Once she truly felt the tugging sensation along with the voice beside her ear, she couldn’t take it anymore and screamed out loud. 0

Not long after that, her grandmother-in-law burst into the room again. The scene before them was bewildering: Xiao Wei sat on the bed hugging her knees with a pale face drenched in cold sweat while her son sat beside her playing around as if swatting away mosquitoes but with exaggerated movements. He kept mumbling: "Go away! Go away ugly monster! You go away!" 0
