The Spirit God above had yet to descend because it was sealed by me and Master Xiao. We had placed talismans, lit incense, and set up a fair arrangement on the stair column, along with the Ink Fight Line. Those few Spirit Gods simply could not come down. Despite this, they continued to try to rush down, but the thin Ink Fight Line before them was as hard as steel; it not only remained unbroken but showed no signs of bending.
I had seen this kind of behavior from Spirit Gods many times before, as our Soul Summoning Array could also make them act this way. However, Master Xiao rarely used methods like Soul Guiding. Watching this situation made him chuckle foolishly, almost breaking into applause.
“Brother, what are you up to?” came the angry voice of the Skinny Man from below. I quickly leaned into the gap to take a look, and I was stunned by the scene before me. The Skinny Man stood menacingly in front of Senior Zhang, holding a dagger.
In a fight, Senior Zhang would definitely not be a match for his junior brother, especially with the dagger in hand. Nevertheless, Senior Zhang remained calm and said with a steady expression, “What do you think I’m doing? You can just go up and see for yourself.”
“It must be those two reckless Little Taoists causing trouble. Brother, you’re being unfair; you didn’t handle those two Little Taoists for me. Fine, I’ll go deal with those two who are asking for trouble.” After saying this, the Skinny Man tightened his grip on the dagger and turned to head up the stairs.
“Damn it! You circus performer! Do you think you’re some kind of little Li Feidao, thinking you can take us down with just a lousy dagger? We’ve sealed your soul; if you have the guts, come up and collect it!” Master Xiao, unable to tolerate the threats from the Skinny Man, stood up abruptly. He casually placed his hands on the railing while twirling a dagger in his right hand. Since I had already been exposed, I stood up as well, smiling at the Skinny Man below.
The Skinny Man stared at us in shock, clearly not expecting that Master Xiao would be so tall and muscular while wielding a knife. I wore a smile that suggested I didn’t take him seriously at all. Yet even so, he let out a sound of surprise and charged up the stairs.
Seeing him rush up, Master Xiao became even angrier and turned to charge down to confront him. However, six Spirit Gods blocked the stairway; he couldn’t get down and could only fume beside them. He had been fighting since childhood and never shied away from it; if he could throw a punch, he wouldn’t waste words.
I quickly whispered, “Don’t go down. When he comes up, we’ll remove the barriers on the stairs and see if he can withstand the simultaneous assault of six Spirit Gods.” After saying this, I ran to one of the stair columns, grabbing hold of the talisman above with one hand while loosening the knot on the Ink Fight Line with the other. As soon as he turned around, I would remove the barriers and let the Spirit Gods rush down without restraint. He probably didn’t realize that these few Spirit Gods were merely blocked at the stairway.
Thud thud thud! After several sounds, I spotted the figure of the Skinny Man at the turn in the middle of the stairs.
“Pull!” I shouted as I tore off the talisman affixed to the stair column with my left hand while simultaneously loosening the knot on the Ink Fight Line with my right. At that same moment, Master Xiao ripped off his talisman as well.
The Skinny Man clearly hadn’t anticipated that there were still Spirit Gods at the stairway entrance. Moreover, he made a critical mistake by not taking down his Soul Banner, which continued to function. Once released, those Spirit Gods would naturally rush down desperately. He looked up to see six Spirit Gods charging towards him—clearly something he couldn’t withstand. It was too late to retreat; instead, he pushed against the stair railing with both hands and dangled outside. Just then, his dagger slipped from his grasp—whether due to lack of grip or being obstructed—and fell onto the stairs with a thud.
He couldn't manage much; once the soul was down, it had to be collected promptly, or things would get complicated. After hesitating for a moment, he relaxed his hands and kicked off with his feet, jumping down from the stairs and landing in the living room. Once he steadied himself, he intended to rush towards the Soul Banner to collect the souls. Master Xiao had followed the six Spirit Gods down, so when the Skinny Man's dagger fell, he had already picked it up and continued running down without pausing.
Although the Skinny Man had jumped down, he paused just as he was about to run towards the Soul Banner. The Spirit God was already nearing the area around the Soul Banner, and in this situation, he wouldn't be able to collect the souls without being taken down by Master Xiao.
Just as that Spirit God was about to reach near the Soul Banner, Senior Zhang kicked over the chair that held the Soul Banner. The kick was powerful enough to send not only the chair but also the offerings flying far away. At that moment, when Senior Zhang kicked away the chair, the six Spirit Gods who had just come down suddenly halted and vanished in an instant.
Master Xiao, holding the dagger, quickly approached the Skinny Man and lifted his foot to kick him. Just as his foot was about to hit the Skinny Man, he sidestepped and clenched his right fist, striking Master Xiao's knee with a solid punch. The blow landed hard, causing Master Xiao to let out a howl of pain. He immediately retracted his kicking foot and lunged forward again. Despite his thin appearance, the Skinny Man was incredibly agile and surprisingly strong; I could see it clearly from upstairs.
Master Xiao lunged at him once more, but the Skinny Man dodged again, retreating behind a large armchair in the living room. He pushed against the back of the chair and flipped over to run to the other side. His nimbleness would have qualified him for a role in an action movie. From across the large armchair, Master Xiao swung his knife, creating a standoff between him and the Skinny Man. In this fight, Master Xiao seemed to have no advantage despite his size. He was known for his bad temper and impatience; however, in such situations, being overly eager often led to mistakes. He decided to leap over the large armchair to grab the Skinny Man. Just as he stepped on a nearby low cabinet beside one of the chairs, the Skinny Man kicked at just the right moment. The cabinet tipped over, causing Master Xiao to fall directly from above. Fortunately, there was carpet all around that large armchair area, which cushioned his fall slightly; however, his dagger fell from his hand as he tumbled.
Seeing that Master Xiao had truly suffered a setback, I hurriedly rushed down the stairs. By the time I reached the hall, Master Xiao had already stood up and shook his head vigorously before grabbing the dagger from the ground again and trying to charge forward. I quickly pulled him back and signaled for him to calm down; clearly, this Skinny Man was skilled in combat. No wonder he wanted to take us both on; luckily for us, he didn't have a weapon in hand. Otherwise, we would have been in serious trouble.
The three of us stood there staring at each other in silence; Master Xiao was panting heavily with anger like a wild beast provoked.
Senior Zhang approached us and patted both of us on our backs before addressing the Skinny Man: "You may be strong, but ever since we learned Ghost Path techniques, we need regular physical training to withstand Yin Qi's erosion. However strong you are, there's always a limit. If all three of us attack together, do you think you can gain an advantage?"
The Skinny Man scoffed disdainfully and replied fiercely that we should come and try it then. After saying this, he punched a glass on a nearby coffee table with such force that it shattered his knuckles open, blood oozing out slowly. He then pressed his bleeding hand against his mouth and began sucking on it forcefully.
This action startled both me and Master Xiao; we were left confused while Senior Zhang remarked: "You're just flailing desperately; what's the point?" After saying this, he dashed around the large armchair towards him.
Seeing Senior Zhang move made me push off one of the chairs and jump forward as well. Although Senior Zhang was older, he moved swiftly; by the time I got there, he was already in front of the Skinny Man. The Skinny Man pulled his hand from his mouth and began chanting an incantation I couldn't understand rapidly. Once finished, he spat out blood mixed with saliva; two loud sounds echoed from behind us. Turning around, I saw two Spirit Gods emerging from where he had carelessly tossed aside two copper mirrors earlier—those were indeed two Spirit Gods previously captured by him.
Once those two Spirit Gods appeared, they charged towards us with fierce expressions. As Senior Zhang lunged at the Skinny Man, he shouted at us: "You two go remove that White Talisman from those ghosts; that way they won't be under his control anymore. Once that's done, don't worry about those Spirit Gods—hurry back to help me!"
"Mm." "Okay." Master Xiao and I responded almost simultaneously, then rushed towards the two Female Spirit Gods charging at us. We didn't have the ability to capture a Spirit God with our bare hands, but tearing off the White Talisman on them was not a difficult task. For a Spirit God of this level, a Soul Binding Spell could momentarily incapacitate them, allowing us to successfully rip off the White Talisman in that brief instant. As I expected, after quickly reciting a section of the Soul Binding Spell, the Spirit God was slightly dazed for a moment. Master Xiao and I each took one and simultaneously tore off the White Talisman. Once the White Talisman was removed, the two Spirit Gods looked at us in confusion before slowly dissipating into the air. This was not Soul Shattered; they had voluntarily concealed themselves.
I glanced back at Senior Zhang, who was currently pinned down by the Skinny Man. The Skinny Man raised his fist and swung it down towards Senior Zhang's head. Senior Zhang tilted his head slightly to avoid the punch, but even so, it didn't miss entirely; instead, it struck Senior Zhang's shoulder.
As the Skinny Man prepared to throw another punch, Master Xiao and I charged forward. However, we were not martial arts experts and couldn't move faster than his fists. By the time we reached them, Senior Zhang had already taken two punches, with Master Xiao leading the way. Just as that third punch was about to land, I grabbed an ashtray from a small cabinet and hurled it at the Skinny Man's back. I aimed for his back instead of his head because I was afraid of causing serious injury; after all, human life is precious.
Thank you for the six diamonds from "Support Soul Sending," and thank you for the diamond from "Qin Qin Bei Bei 1921." Good night to everyone.
