Seeing me say this, Liu Bi finally breathed a sigh of relief. It looked at me seriously and said, "Brother Liu, no matter what happens, you must not provoke that Yin Chai. Once Lens finishes filming you, just follow them back without lingering. I'll handle the rest."
I looked at Liu Bi in confusion, unsure of what it was really worried about. I had seen Yin Chai before; if I didn't provoke it, it couldn't do anything to me. But then I thought again—Liu Bi rarely spoke so seriously, so it must not be an exaggeration.
I nodded without saying anything. Each situation should be dealt with as it comes; everything would be clearer later. Liu Bi seemed to have no intention of talking further. It walked over to the bedside, put away the umbrella, and handed me my bronze mirror, saying, "Brother Liu, here's your mirror back. Thank you."
I had intended to say that the mirror was for Liu Bi to give to Mu Xue, but it seemed that if I didn't Soul Guide, Mu Xue wouldn't be able to enter.
I took the bronze mirror and placed it in the Cloth Bag. Looking up at Mu Xue, who was floating in the air and playing by herself, I said, "Little Mu Xue, come play with us." With that, I pretended to pounce on her with outstretched arms. Her eyes lit up and her mouth opened wide as she floated from her spot to the air above the bed.
I jumped onto the bed while shouting playfully. She floated over to the wardrobe, her eyes curving into perfect crescent shapes as she smiled sweetly with her mouth opening and closing. Although she couldn't make any sound, watching her expressions felt like hearing a series of joyful giggles from a little girl—a sound that struck deep into my heart. Even though I didn't have anyone special in my life, seeing Mu Xue like this made my heart swell with paternal affection. I couldn't help but sigh at the thought of having such a lovely daughter in the future.
After playing with Mu Xue for a while, I started to feel a bit tired. She looked at me with lingering interest as I sat down on a chair, breathing heavily. From the Cloth Bag, I took out a bronze coin usually used for Soul Guiding—an extremely yin object dug up from a tomb—and pulled out a piece of unrefined red string to make a pendant by threading it through the coin. I waved at Mu Xue; she immediately floated in front of me, clearly aware that I had something good.
I hung the coin around her neck and said to her, "This is for you. From now on, when you come out to play from the umbrella, wear this; it will ensure you won't get tired."
Mu Xue put on the coin and took a step back before bowing to me. I wondered where she learned to bow; perhaps she couldn't express her gratitude verbally and could only show it through this gesture.
After bowing, Mu Xue joyfully leaped into Liu Bi's arms. Liu Bi asked happily, "Sister, how is this brother? He even gave you a gift! You should get closer to him and ask for more gifts."
Mu Xue nodded eagerly like a chick pecking at grains. I looked at Liu Bi speechlessly; this kid really knew how to calculate things.
...
I chatted with Xiaolin until 10 PM about some matters in the Underworld. When Xiaolin called me to say they were about to set off, I reminded Liu Bi that it was time for business.
Liu Bi opened the Oiled Paper Umbrella and called for Mu Xue to come inside. Originally playing with the bronze coin on the bed, Mu Xue immediately darted into the Oiled Paper Umbrella upon hearing Liu Bi's call, leaving the coin behind. Liu Bi folded up the umbrella gently and stroked it twice before wrapping the coin around it and stuffing it into a large backpack.
As we stepped outside, a business car was already parked by the roadside in front of the guesthouse. The same group of people was inside: one director, two camera operators, along with Xiaolin and members of the Lighting Team—totaling seven people including myself and Li Da Ye. As we drove off, they said: "Once Li Da Ye gets back in the car later, he will suddenly faint for about ten minutes. I've placed a bowl of Talisman Water in the car; once he wakes up, just give him that to drink. After filming is done, pack everything up as quickly as possible and leave this place. Remember—if the director asks you to come back for another look, don't agree; just leave. If anything comes up, I might call you. If I haven't called by tomorrow morning when daylight breaks, then come find me."
Xiaolin said, "Alright, is it serious? It sounds dangerous. Should I stay with you?"
I chuckled lightly, "No need, I'm just here to watch the excitement. Don't worry."
Xiaolin nodded and fell silent, moving closer to the director, quietly staring at the screen. The same location had been thrilling during the last shoot, which naturally piqued his curiosity. Fortunately, from start to finish, nothing significant was captured on film. I sighed in relief, and so did Xiaolin, but the director's expression remained grave, as if he hadn't filmed what he wanted.
After the shoot wrapped up, Liu Bi, possessed by Li Da Ye, strode up to the director with a cold expression and said, "Hurry up and pack your things and leave here." He spoke in Liu Bi's own voice. Upon hearing Liu Bi's voice, the director jumped up abruptly and began directing everyone to pack quickly. Li Da Ye was the first to reach the vehicle. Upon seeing the bowl of Talisman Water on top, he seemed to understand something. He turned back to look at me; when he saw me standing outside with Mu Xue, he shook his head and got into the car.
The scene was quickly cleared out; everyone except me got into their vehicles. The director asked why I wasn't coming along. I replied that I had something to take care of and that they should head back first. The director nodded, and Xiaolin sped off in the car.
Once the car left, Liu Bi slowly materialized at the parking spot and solemnly said, "Brother Liu, you shouldn't have stayed behind; luckily it hasn't arrived yet."
"Why hasn't it arrived? Didn't they say it would be watching nearby?" I asked while scanning my surroundings.
Liu Bi didn't answer me directly but said, "Brother Liu, I'll take Mu Xue to get the money first; you find a place to hide. We agreed to pay tonight; it should be arriving soon."
I nodded and looked around. About ten meters away was a large rock; I quickly dashed behind it. Using the bright moonlight, I watched as Liu Bi and Mu Xue crouched down at the spot where they had burned things earlier, starting to sift through the ashes.
After about a minute, Liu Bi and Mu Xue stood up. Mu Xue held something I couldn't see—Joss Paper—in her hands and looked quite strained. Liu Bi patted Mu Xue's head and smiled before glancing around nervously. It seemed like some Yin Chai hadn't arrived yet.
I dared not blink, focusing intently on the pair of siblings not far away. Liu Bi appeared anxious while Mu Xue remained calm, looking around without any signs of distress.
About three minutes later, I saw Liu Bi begin speaking towards a certain direction while Mu Xue raised her hands high with some unseen object. I realized that a Yin Chai had arrived; it was just that I couldn't see it. Liu Bi and Mu Xue were actively letting me see them while that Yin Chai hadn’t made an effort to reveal itself to me. But not being able to see it didn't matter; I was merely a passerby hoping for their success.
Mu Xue raised her hand again before lowering it. Liu Bi kept nodding and bowing as if communicating with the Yin Chai. I waited quietly for their transaction to conclude quickly; regardless of whether that Yin Chai violated Yin De or not, I didn't want to get involved—I just hoped Mu Xue's Living Soul wouldn't be captured because if it was taken away, there would be no saving her. With that thought in mind, I pulled out a bottle of Cow Tears from my Cloth Bag and twisted off the cap; if anything went wrong, I'd be ready.
About a minute later, Liu Bi stopped nodding and stood there frozen without moving. Suddenly, Mu Xue leaned toward Liu Bi, placing her palms gently on his face with a fearful expression. My heart raced—was something about to go wrong?
As I was still pondering in my heart, I suddenly saw Mu Xue, who had been standing next to Liu Bi, being violently thrown backward. Liu Bi glanced at Mu Xue and then angrily lunged forward into the air.
Liu Bi moved quickly, and the force with which Mu Xue was thrown back was equally swift, reminiscent of a child being kicked several meters away by an adult.
This was bad; how did it turn into a fight? I quickly rubbed my eyes and chanted a spell to open them. After blinking a few times, I witnessed a scene that filled me with rage.
Liu Bi lay on the ground, howling in anger, while Mu Xue was lying about a meter away, mouth agape as if crying. A thick black iron chain was wrapped around her neck, the other end held by a hand emerging from beneath a wide sleeve. The owner of that hand had one foot pressed down on Liu Bi's chest, and Liu Bi struggled desperately.
After assessing the situation, I hurriedly grabbed a handful of Cinnabar Ash from my bag, clutched two Exorcism Talismans in my hand, and stuffed another Exorcism Talisman into my shoe, drawing several Hand Spells on top of it.
When I looked up again, the Chain Master seemed to be berating Liu Bi further. Liu Bi fought back with all its might, but the Chain Master suddenly exerted force with his hand, forcibly dragging Mu Xue's Living Soul upward in a white arc through the air. He slammed Mu Xue's Living Soul from the right side to the left with considerable force.
Seeing this scene made me furious; I roared and charged out from behind the stone.
