Shao Xiaohuai's Soul did not experience much fluctuation upon entering, as it immediately saw all the family members at home. However, it was clear to it that they could not see it. From their reactions, it seemed that they had come to realize they could indeed see it.
After a moment of daze, it first looked at me, and I smiled lightly at it. Then it turned to observe the others, but it did not show much excitement. This could only mean one thing: it did not have deep feelings for these family members. After all, if it had strong emotions for them, being in such a wealthy family, it would not have resorted to drug use and becoming a prostitute.
Moments later, Shao Xiaohuai's Father was the first to react. He slowly walked over, his eyes fixed on Shao Xiaohuai, mechanically calling out, "Xiao Huai, Xiao Huai, is that really you?"
Next came Shao Xiaohuai's Mother. Once she regained her composure, she approached with a much stronger reaction than Shao Xiaohuai's Father. Tears streamed down her face like pearls from a broken string, and her sobs grew louder as she intermittently said, "Xiao Huai, it's your father and mother's fault. We spent so little time with you and didn't educate you properly, which led to this outcome. Can you forgive us?"
Shao Xiaohuai did not respond much; it merely nodded blankly, its expression unchanged. I glanced at Sun Lawyer still cowering in the corner; he was staring at Shao Xiaohuai with fear and showed no intention of approaching. Instead, the girl slowly walked over, trembling as she called out, "Xiao Huai, Xiao Huai."
Seeing that Shao Xiaohuai did not react much, its father asked the question I had been waiting for: "Xiao Huai, you seem unhappy. Is there something on your mind?"
"That's right; there is something troubling it because its death was not an accident but something it orchestrated itself," I pointed to the corner where Sun Lawyer was still shrinking back.
In truth, Shao Xiaohuai was not troubled by anything in particular; as a New Soul, it could not control its expression and always wore a cold demeanor.
My shocking statement left everyone in the room looking at me in disbelief before they turned their attention to Sun Lawyer in the corner, completely unsure of what to do next.
"Sun Lawyer, if you want to keep something secret, you mustn't do anything yourself. Do you think no one knows what you've done?" Officer Luo interjected loudly, snapping the other three out of their confusion.
Officer Luo was a police officer; having just seen their deceased daughter made even the most rational person understand what was happening. Shao Xiaohuai's Father reacted instantly. He quickly walked over to Sun Lawyer and grabbed his collar, pulling him towards Shao Xiaohuai's Soul while saying angrily, "You beast! How have we mistreated you in the Shao Family? We promoted you and even gave you money to buy a house! Is this how you repay us?"
I watched Sun Lawyer closely, curious whether he would refute this accusation and how he would do so.
"You’re talking nonsense! I didn’t do anything! I’m just as heartbroken over Xiao Huai’s death as you are! What evidence do you have that I did anything?" Sun Lawyer finally regained his composure and began to defend himself.
After hearing this, Officer Luo slammed his hand on the coffee table and said, "Zhou XX! You know that you called Wang Kun over to his house where there was a ghost locked up. You broke the soul-locking item that allowed that soul to come out and scare him. You knew that soul wanted to deal with Wang Kun and that Wang Kun was going to meet Xiao Huai. So you used that ghost from Wang Kun's house to have him strangle Xiao Huai, right?"
Upon hearing this accusation, Sun Lawyer slowly lowered his head before suddenly raising it again and saying defiantly, "What evidence do you have that I did anything? This society values evidence!"
"Should I call Zhou XX over?" Officer Luo said, pulling out his phone.
Sun Lawyer replied without hesitation, "What good will it do to call him? He only tore a few talismans. Can that be considered evidence in court?"
"I never mentioned he tore any talismans. How do you know? Are you still denying that this was your doing?" I scoffed.
Suddenly, the room fell silent. After a few seconds, Shao Xiaohuai's Mother reacted and rushed towards Sun Lawyer, slapping him hard across the face.
"You ungrateful wretch," she spat.
"I'm not in the wrong! What gives you the right to hit me?" he shouted as he stood up.
I discreetly pulled out a Soul Guiding Talisman from my bag, walked over to Sun Lawyer, and patted him on the shoulder. "Sun Lawyer, you're still not telling the truth in front of Shao Xiaohuai. Aren't you afraid she'll haunt you endlessly?" While patting his shoulder, I also pressed the Soul Guiding Talisman onto him.
"What do I have to fear? A clear conscience has nothing to hide," Sun Lawyer stubbornly retorted.
"Fine." After saying that, I began to chant the Soul Summoning Spell. With the presence of the Soul Guiding Talisman, Shao Xiaohuai's Soul slowly moved toward Sun Lawyer.
Seeing this, Sun Lawyer could no longer maintain his last line of defense and began to back away. "Don't come closer! Don't come closer!" he pleaded.
I stepped behind him, gripping his shoulders so he had nowhere to retreat. "Aren't you going to tell the truth?"
When Shao Xiaohuai was only a foot or two away from him, he shut his eyes and shouted, "Alright! I admit it! It was me! Just don't come any closer!"
I released him and casually tore off the Soul Guiding Talisman from his back. Shao Xiaohuai broke free from the Soul Calling Array and without the guidance of the Soul Summoning Spell or talismans, she slowly dissipated into the air. At this point, there was nothing more for Shao Xiaohuai here; more importantly, it was almost midnight, and we couldn't keep her here any longer—it wouldn't be good for her.
The moment Shao Xiaohuai vanished, her mother cried out desperately as if trying to pull her back. But all her efforts were in vain.
I did not stop her. At her age, she should understand what is going on. The urgent matter at hand is not to tell her that Shao Xiaohuai is gone, but to make everyone recognize the actions of Sun Lawyer.
Shao Xiaohuai's Father reacted quickly, and he had quite the temper. He rushed over and kicked Sun Lawyer to the ground, then followed up with several punches to his head, cursing as he said, "You ungrateful bastard! Haven't you received enough over the years? How could you resort to such tricks and cause Xiao Huai's death? Tell me, what good does this do you?"
"Enough!" Sun Lawyer shouted as he pushed Shao Xiaohuai's Father away and stood up. "Do you think your daughter is so great? She's on drugs and selling herself. Right in front of me, she was on the phone with another man saying they would meet at a hotel. I couldn't stand her anymore, do you know that? If it were you, could you handle it? Can you imagine how it feels when a man shows me her naked photos and says this woman has great Kung Fu? And that man is a mentally unstable thug!"
After Sun Lawyer finished shouting, the entire room fell silent. Shao Xiaohuai's Mother was the first to react: "She's already gone, and you're still talking like this about her." She rushed over to hit Sun Lawyer again.
...
There’s no need to elaborate on what happened next. As a lawyer, Sun Lawyer knew he wouldn’t face any legal repercussions for his actions. However, Shao Xiaohuai's Father used some financial means to make Sun Lawyer's life miserable. According to Officer Luo, later on, Sun Lawyer was arrested for embezzlement and sentenced to two or three years—I can't remember exactly. I don't know if he really embezzled or if it was fabricated. Regardless, he got what he deserved in the end.
At this point, perhaps everyone should understand that Wang Kun was a patient of Sun Lawyer’s who had mental issues. During his therapy sessions, he shared everything with Sun Lawyer. In casual conversation, Wang Kun also showed Sun Lawyer some inappropriate photos of Shao Xiaohuai in bed and mentioned that he planned to book a room with her the next day. Wang Kun had no idea that such a woman would be Sun Lawyer’s wife...
If you think about it carefully, who among those punished in this matter could escape the consequences?
With this story concluded, there are fewer tales left to tell. I don’t know how much longer I can write or whether you’re tired of reading this. In short, as long as you’re reading, I’ll keep writing. A new story begins tomorrow. I need to think carefully about which one to write next. Good night.
