Seeing this scene, I quickly ran over with Master Xiao. Using the Soul Summoning Spell, I drew the restless spirits entangled with them closer. Once they had freed their hands, they dashed towards the entrance of the Depression.
Liu Hetian and Qiu Leyu charged straight at the two wild boars, each wielding a dagger. The wild boars, clearly enraged by their movements, charged at Liu Hetian and Qiu Leyu.
I was worried for their safety; these wild boars were much larger than the one we had encountered before. I had never been chased by a wild boar, so I didn't know how dangerous they could be, but just looking at their long tusks made me uneasy.
"What are you doing? Hurry up! Once we finish with these spirits, we’ll help deal with the wild boars. Damn it, I've never fought a wild boar before; I have to experience it," Master Xiao said excitedly while collecting souls. "Hey, I'm running low on materials. Brother Liu, set up a Soul-Trapping Formation quickly. I'll draw the souls in, and then I'll help with the wild boars."
I nodded and began preparing the Soul-Trapping Formation. Turning around, I saw Liu Hetian and Qiu Leyu each pick up a stone from the ground and throw it at the two wild boars.
The stones hit the wild boars without causing any harm. The two wild boars didn’t even pause; they charged straight at Liu Hetian.
Liu Hetian was quick on his feet. When he saw both wild boars charging at him, he swiftly turned and ran toward the right wall of the pit, which was over a meter high. He reached the wall and jumped, using his hands to pull himself up just as the two wild boars crashed into the wall.
The earthen wall was dented by two small impacts, and loose stones tumbled down from above, seemingly demonstrating just how powerful those wild boars were.
The wild boars missed Liu Hetian and turned to charge at Qiu Leyu instead. Qiu Leyu provocatively shouted a couple of times and gestured to Han Yuan Zhu Shun, pointing to a spot deeper inside the Depression before continuing toward its entrance. The two wild boars huffed angrily and unhesitatingly pursued Qiu Leyu.
Qiu Leyu was also quite fast. Although the distance between him and the wild boars was not great initially, despite their speed, they couldn't catch up to him. Qiu Leyu sprinted quickly and soon disappeared into the entrance of the Depression, followed closely by the two wild boars.
Just as I was wondering where they had gone, Master Xiao's loud voice came through again: "Hey! What are you doing, Brother Liu? Hurry up! The wild boars have run off; I haven't shown my strength yet."
"Show your strength? You can do it yourself! I'm going to check things out," I replied as I set down my Incense and ran toward the entrance of the Depression.
In truth, they didn’t need to lure the wild boars away; there were still spirits inside the Depression that would deter the wild boars from charging in. Their exit actually played right into the wild boars' hands.
"Damn it!" Master Xiao shouted before muttering under his breath, "Fine, I'll set it up; who’s afraid of you?"
As I was about to run out of the Depression, just reaching the spot where Qiu Leyu had pointed, I saw him jump down from above. It was over two meters high, and he landed directly, rolling on the ground before quickly getting up and running towards another area.
While I was still wondering if he had been knocked down by a wild boar, another wild boar jumped down right after him. It let out a sharp squeal in mid-air, clearly not expecting the height.
"Damn," I quickly dodged to the side.
With a heavy thud, the wild boar's bulky body crashed to the ground. Han Yuan and Zhu Shun, one with a shotgun and the other with a crossbow, took their shots just as the boar landed and was still dazed.
With a loud bang, nearly all the pellets from the shotgun hit the wild boar's body, while Zhu Shun's arrow struck precisely into its neck. Despite being shot and pierced, the wild boar struggled to get up but stumbled and fell again, unable to rise.
"Impressive," I exclaimed sincerely, but then I remembered that Liu Hetian and another wild boar had yet to come down.
I quickly moved aside as Zhu Shun hastily loaded more pellets into his shotgun and Han Yuan readied another arrow for his crossbow. Once they were prepared, they ran towards the exit of the Depression.
It seemed they weren't planning to use that tactic again. I wondered how Liu Hetian was faring, but there was nothing more I could do at this point. I turned back to see the others still entangled with the spirits inside the Depression; most of them had been subdued already. Aside from Meng Biao leading five or six spirits in circles, everyone else seemed to have their hands free.
Oh right, Master Xiao was also struggling to contain a few spirits on his own, but he had already set up the Soul-Trapping Formation.
After helping Master Xiao trap those spirits, I turned my attention to assist Meng Biao.
At this point, Meng Biao was merely running on autopilot; he seemed completely exhausted, even his incantations were trembling. Mao Ruiliang and Liu Zhiqiang rushed over to help control the spirits chasing him.
After a flurry of activity, the spirits in the Depression were either captured or contained. Everyone was panting heavily and no longer seemed inclined to exorcise them.
Even Zhou Hong, who had been adding firewood to the campfire, joined in against the spirits. However, he couldn't capture any souls; he could only stick Soul Guiding Talismans on himself to help divert some of the spirits' attention.
Wang Xiaolu may not have been able to collect souls, but her role was significant. While she pounded on Yuanxin, she ran, drawing away the wandering spirits around us as we trapped the souls. For as long as we were entangled with the spirits, she had been running, and by this point, she was too exhausted to speak.
I glanced at the entrance to Depression; only Jiang Quan from the Qingjing Sect remained at the entrance with Qiu Leyu and the others.
"What’s going on, Liu Shidi? Where did those five friends come from? They look like they’re from the Quanzhen Sect," Mao Ruiliang said, looking at me.
I replied, "They went out to hunt a wild boar. Mao Shixiong, you all keep an eye on these spirits. If they recover, perform a rite for them. I’ll go check on Qiu Shixiong and the others." The Soul-Trapping Formation wouldn’t hold for much longer; if we didn’t act quickly, we would have to deal with it for a while longer.
Mao Ruiliang nodded and said, "Alright, go ahead. We’ll handle things here."
I turned and ran toward the exit of Depression, but Master Xiao was faster than me.
"What are you doing?" he shouted as he dashed out ahead of me. "Brother Liu, you delayed me from hunting that wild boar. No matter what, I’m going to check it out."
Once outside of Depression, I looked around but didn’t hear any other voices. I asked Jiang Quan, "Where are the other four Shixiong?"
Jiang Quan chuckled and said, "They went over there. Don’t worry; they’re just training with the wild boar."
Seeing Jiang Quan's expression eased my mind. Master Xiao quickly exclaimed, "Damn it! If it’s that fierce, tell me which direction it went so I can check it out."
Jiang Quan pointed straight ahead and said, "It should be over there; they should be back soon."
Master Xiao nodded and jumped in place before sprinting off in that direction, shouting as he ran, "Hey there, all you gentlemen from Quanzhen Sect! Take it easy; let me have the last hit!"
Watching Master Xiao’s eager demeanor, I decided not to follow him. Instead, I told Jiang Quan, "After they return, let’s head back to Depression. Once we clean up those spirits, we can get to know each other better. It’s fate that we met here."
Jiang Quan nodded and smiled, saying, "Sure, but you need to talk to Meng Biao and tell him not to be too reckless. My temper, Liu Shixiong, is notoriously bad."
I turned and ran into the Depression. Everyone took a brief rest before starting to guide the trapped souls.
After Meng Biao scattered a few of these souls, they became much more aggressive. Guiding them took twice as long as usual, but with everyone's efforts, all the trapped souls were guided away in just over ten minutes. What remained were about thirty or so souls trapped within objects. However, there was no rush at this moment, as everyone was quite exhausted.
We gathered around the campfire, and Mao Ruiliang spoke first, "Liu Shidi, thank you. If you hadn't arrived in time this time, we probably wouldn't have made it out unscathed."
Reflecting on the situation, it wasn't particularly difficult to handle; as long as the souls weren't scattered, they wouldn't become aggressive here. That would make guiding them much easier, and they might not even attack. However, I couldn't understand why Meng Biao and Zhang Chuanzheng chose to scatter the souls.
"Mao Shixiong, there's something I don't understand. Why did you scatter the souls here? You must know that doing so would provoke their aggression," I asked in confusion.
Mao Ruiliang frowned and replied, "This matter is quite strange. We knew there were many souls here when we arrived and that they could be guided. But when we entered to prepare for Soul Guiding, those souls suddenly became aggressive. Meng Biao and Chuan Zheng had no choice but to start scattering them."
"That's impossible. If no souls were scattered, they wouldn't become aggressive for no reason," I asserted while looking at Meng Biao. Among us, he was the most likely to have scattered the souls.
Meng Biao noticed my gaze and shot back at me, "What do you mean? Are you implying that I was the one who started scattering the souls?"
