"What is the reason?" Mao Ruiliang said with a heavy expression. As the leader of the team, he was naturally the one who least wanted any trouble within the group.
"Heh heh, I'm just guessing, Mao Shixiong. Don't overthink it. The meat seems ready to eat, come on everyone, dig in," I said with a laugh.
There was no need to dwell on such matters; regardless of who was causing trouble, without evidence it was merely speculation. This experience would only last a few days; if we could just hold on, it would soon be over. As long as no one lost their life, everything could be discussed.
After finishing the wild boar meat, everyone began to set up tents. Since Meng Biao had bowed and apologized, the atmosphere among us gradually became more harmonious. We should have had some drinks, but Master Xiao's supplies had already run out.
That night, we finished reading all the spirits before going to sleep. The next morning, Qiu Leyu and his group began their journey back; their mission was complete as they had retrieved the elder's Skeleton and fulfilled his wishes.
After crossing this mountain, we reached **Shang**. We did not separate again; originally, Master Xiao was reluctant to stay with them since separating would allow him to get closer to Wang Xiaolu.
Due to the unrest within the team, everyone became more cautious. Fortunately, we were nearing our destination. Perhaps in two days, we would part ways and live our own lives.
As we walked towards **Shang**, what seemed like a short distance took us until dusk to reach.
**Shang** is not just the name of a mountain; it refers to all areas within five miles centered around one particular mountain. The gathering place for Yin energy we were heading to was that central mountain, which we shall refer to as **Shang**.
The gathering place for Yin energy at **Shang** is different from other mountains; its gathering area has an unusual quality. Ever since the unrest within the team was made public, the entire group became much calmer. Although everyone harbored suspicions about each other, they did not voice them openly. To my surprise, Meng Biao had also restrained himself significantly; even Zhang Chuanzheng had not uttered any distasteful remarks since then. Perhaps he realized that if he sparked another argument, others would start to suspect him.
We spent most of the day climbing up to a flat area on the mountain; it was merely less rocky than before. Due to the depth of this Depression, once we reached the center position, we could hardly feel any wind at all, which greatly facilitated our preparations for the Summoning ritual.
After clearing away all the rubble from the flat area, Zhou Hong, Wang Xiaolu, Master Xiao, and Zhang Chuanzheng began preparing dinner. Meanwhile, Mao Ruiliang, Meng Biao, Liu Zhiqiang, and I started gathering the items needed for the Summoning Array.
The large Summoning Array required a Soul Banner. However, we couldn't carry the Soul Banner here. Therefore, we needed to make one ourselves. We had brought the talismans and paper for the banner, but we were missing the support structure for the Soul Banner. Fortunately, there was plenty of bamboo around, so we could gather materials on-site.
With many hands making light work, by the time they finished preparing Dinner, our materials were nearly ready as well. As it was getting dark, everyone was not in a hurry to eat but instead gathered a lot of dry wood for the bonfire.
Once everything was prepared, we finally began to eat Dinner. By then, night had already fallen.
"I feel like what we're doing is a bit reckless. If we encounter a troublesome spirit, we won't even have a place to run," Zhou Hong said worriedly while eating.
Mao Ruiliang chuckled and replied, "It's fine; it's still early. They won't come out now. After dinner, we'll set up a Five Elements Formation for defense. If things get tough, we can use the Five Elements Formation to hold out until dawn."
"Yes, that's our only guarantee. However, my Master also mentioned that the spirits here aren't particularly powerful. They're mostly just lost souls gathering together, so there's no need to worry too much," Master Xiao seemed to calm down as well.
After finishing our meal and lighting the bonfire, we turned on all the solar-powered Flashlights. The area around us was instantly illuminated.
While others began to arrange the Five Elements Formation, Mao Ruiliang, Meng Biao, and I started working on the Soul Banner. The effectiveness of the Soul Banner depended not on its appearance but primarily on the talismans and incantations; as long as it could stand upright and not fall apart, it would suffice.
Around eight o'clock, I took out my compass and noticed its trembling indicated that things were not calm in the vicinity. However, I knew that these spirits did not harbor much malice; they were mostly just watching us eight with curiosity. Perhaps they didn't even understand what we intended to do.
The response from the compass made me feel relieved; if the spirits around us were all in this state, we wouldn't need long to gather all the spirits within a five-hundred-meter radius. Without the constraints of competition, I believed everyone would agree to perform a collective exorcism.
"Mao Shixiong, make some arrangements; the spirits here are quite calm," I said to Mao Ruiliang.
Mao Ruiliang nodded and said, "Alright, let's set up a Soul-Trapping Formation outside the Summoning Array. I will handle summoning along with Liu Shidi, Sister Wang, and Meng Shidi. Zhou Shidi will continue watching over the bonfire and take care of any tasks he can manage. Zhiqiang, Xiao Shidi, and Chuan Zheng will seal off the perimeter. Once we have enough spirits gathered, we'll perform the exorcism together."
Everyone nodded to each other and began preparing the Soul-Trapping Formation.
These two large formations nearly consumed all of our red candles and incense, and even the offerings were laid out. This was our destination, our final stop. If these two formations worked as intended, we could eliminate all the restless spirits in this gathering place of yin energy by morning.
At ten o'clock in the evening, we began the soul summoning.
Mao Ruiliang stood in the center of the formation holding a large Soul Banner, while Wang Xiaolu stood beside him, holding her Yuanxin. Meng Biao and I positioned ourselves on either side of them, each grasping a Soul Banner. Zhou Hong tended to the campfire not far away, still adorned with numerous protective talismans.
Liu Zhiqiang, Master Xiao, and Zhang Chuanzheng stood at the three entrances of the Soul-Trapping Formation, guiding the summoned spirits. Only they could stand at these three points; no one else could enter from any other direction.
There are many types of Soul Summoning Spells, and we chose one. With Mao Ruiliang leading, we all chanted the incantation together.
“Wandering Soul, where do you linger? The Three Souls have descended, Seven Spirits...” Following Mao Ruiliang's lead, we shook our Soul Banners and began to chant in unison...
