"I refuse to accept this! I refuse!" The first person unable to sit still in the venue was not Zheng Ming, Bai Zhuo's senior, but Zhu Cong.
It was no wonder. Zhu Cong had originally secured third place in the competition, but now a newcomer named Bai Zhuo had emerged with an astonishing score of eight thousand eight hundred years. It seemed suspicious no matter how one looked at it. Naturally, like Zhu Cong, many others found it unbelievable. Some were convinced that Bai Zhuo's score must have been fabricated and demanded an explanation from several elders, but they were met with refusal.
Thus, Bai Zhuo became the target of everyone's scrutiny. Ironically, even Bai Zhuo herself had no idea what was going on and had unintentionally become the champion of the competition.
"This year's Ghost Hunting Competition third place: Young Master Tang from the Tang family—Tang Bao! Second place goes to our Yin Yang Realm's genius—Zheng Ming! And first place, a dark horse from the Ge family—Bai Zhuo!" The host was exuberant on stage, yet the audience showed little emotion. After all their hard work, they ended up with nothing, and the unexpected first place only served to dishearten many.
There were no applause or cheers, no dazzling lights; the conclusion of the competition felt far less lively than when it began. The venue was eerily quiet, giving off a sense of anticlimax. Several elders left in haste without any closing remarks or ceremony. Bai Zhuo vaguely heard a conversation between Tang Baifu and his steward.
"Sir, the Wang family has caused a ruckus at our home."
"What happened?"
"The young master of the Wang family didn't survive the Night Parade of One Hundred Demons and lost his soul; he won't even have a chance to reincarnate."
"To die under an Evil Spirit due to lack of skill and still dare to cause trouble at the Tang family? Have Tang Jie take action, seize the Wang family's shares, and remove them from the association's list."
"Understood. Also regarding the Li Family..."
Tang Baifu rubbed his nose at the bridge where his spiritual point lay. "Remove them..."
"And also..."
The two walked further away, discussing removals, reshuffles, and purges. Bai Zhuo couldn't hear them clearly.
Tang Bao, Zheng Ming, and Bai Zhuo remained behind to witness the treasures stored in the Onmyoji Association's warehouse. They were taken to a building in the city center. Bai Zhuo looked up curiously. "Sun and Moon Group? What are we doing here?"
Tang Bao explained, "The Sun and Moon Group is the financial lifeline of our Eastern Yin-Yang Realm. Many prominent families hold shares in it, which is why the association's warehouse is located in this building. I want that Cosmic Fan, so please don't compete with me for it."
Bai Zhuo realized that Tang Bao was actually the grandson of Tang Baifu. He shrugged nonchalantly and said, "Now that Young Master Tang has made an appearance, I suppose I should give him some face. However, someone here made a bet with me and hasn't fulfilled their end of the deal. Did you think I forgot and would let you take advantage of me?"
Before Bai Zhuo could finish his sentence, Zheng Ming coldly snorted and tossed the Five Elements Plate to him. "Make good use of it!"
"Wow, what's this? The Five Elements Plate? It's quite heavy!"
"This is my father's relic. It was crafted from a meteorite by a Revered Master and a Famous Blacksmith from the Yin Yang Realm. If any malevolent force appears within a hundred miles, this Five Elements Plate will point the way."
Bai Zhuo picked up the Five Elements Plate and looked at it closely. He noticed dark bloodstains on the inner plate and realized that Zheng Ming was definitely hiding something. He put away the palm-sized iron plate and said, "Oh, this is your father's relic? Trying to play the sympathy card to get it back from me?" He sneered, "Not a chance!"
Zheng Ming clenched his fists tightly, veins bulging on his forehead. However, he accepted his loss in the bet and could only swallow his anger.
Inside the Sun and Moon Group, the warehouse was located three floors underground. Bai Zhuo expected it to be an old room filled with dust like in movies; instead, it resembled a bank vault—clean and equipped with various high-tech locks and multiple layers of security that dazzled Bai Zhuo's eyes.
Under the guidance of the Association Leader, Bai Zhuo was the first to enter. He heard the person in charge say, "You have fifteen minutes to select one item before leaving."
As Bai Zhuo stepped into the warehouse, he was immediately stunned by what he saw! The warehouse looked like a giant supermarket—Talisman Category, Magical Artifacts, Talisman Category, etc., all clearly divided. Bai Zhuo then understood that the time given was not ample but rather short!
After being momentarily dazed, Bai Zhuo rushed toward the Talisman Category section. If it weren't for needing to resolve his Ghost Marriage issue, he wouldn't have participated in this life-threatening Ghost Hunting Competition. After searching for five minutes, he finally found a talisman on the third shelf. It was tucked away at the bottom, covered by a white strip that obscured its Curse Seal above. A line of text on the shelf explained: Release Contract—can break any Yin-Yang contract; an irreplaceable magical Curse Seal; no one can decipher this strange Curse Seal; there is only this one.
Considering his future happiness, Bai Zhuo reached for the talisman.
Suddenly, the previously quiet green snake acting as a bracelet on Bai Zhuo's wrist jolted awake. It stood upright and hissed loudly. Bai Zhuo felt their connection and sensed its fear and unease.
What troubled her wasn't the talisman but rather the row of shelves behind it. Curious, Bai Zhuo moved around to see a collection of magical artifacts.
These artifacts were peculiar—there were fans, wooden fish, golden bells, and Peach Wood Swords among other items. But what made the green snake extremely anxious was a copper mirror about the size of a bowl!
Below the copper mirror, there was a missing piece, its surface entirely yellow, but the edges were covered in greenish copper rust, giving it an unremarkable appearance. Faintly, one could see the blurred cheeks of Bai Zhuo.
"The Demon-Exposing Mirror—an enigmatic ancient copper mirror imbued with Taoist principles. Under its reflection, demons and monsters have nowhere to hide; they fear the light it casts. It is a precious artifact for exorcism and protection."
However, Bai Zhuo sensed something amiss. If it were truly as simple as described on the shelf, the Green Snake would not have reacted so strongly.
There was something suspicious about this mirror.
Bai Zhuo reached out to pick up the copper mirror, and the Green Snake hissed in discontent, quickly slithering up Bai Zhuo's arm to form a blue-green collar around his neck.
"I really want this, but if I take it, what will happen to the Ghost Marriage?" Bai Zhuo muttered to himself in distress.
Fifteen minutes passed swiftly, and Bai Zhuo emerged with a bitter expression on his face.
Tang Bao curiously asked, "What did you take?"
Bai Zhuo pulled out the rusted copper mirror and sighed. "I regretted it as soon as I took it out; I can't change the person responsible now..."
Tang Bao seemed to have been to this warehouse before and smiled. "Oh? Isn't this the Demon-Exposing Mirror? It's quite nice!"
