"My Tenant is a Female Ghost" features a female ghost.
"Director, the patient's blood pressure is too low... he has lost too much blood."
"The bullet is lodged between the Spleen, and the Spleen has ruptured..." "Tweezers..." "Director, his Heart... has stopped beating..."
"What is the condition of the Brain?" "It's strange; the Brain cells are very active! I'm sure the patient can hear us right now."
"Prepare for defibrillation!"
"The blood type report is out; prepare to transfuse blood for the patient."
In a hazy state, Bai Zhuo vaguely heard this conversation. His consciousness was drifting, gradually separating from his body, reminiscent of when he was absorbed by the Taotie Ghost.
He heard a masked nurse speak up: "Director, the patient's blood type is very rare, and there is very little stored in the blood bank..." The Chief Surgeon furrowed his brow and asked, "What's wrong? Is there not enough blood?"
The nurse hesitated to respond, "Well... that's not it; it's just that the director has prioritized this blood for special groups..."
The Chief Surgeon scoffed, "Ha... does it matter who is who at a time like this? If the person lying here were your father, what would you do?"
The nurse lowered her head in guilt and said, "I'm sorry, Director; I'll go get it right away!"
"Go ahead; you don't have to worry about the director scolding you. This person is Sister Yang's friend; hurry to the blood bank." Although the nurse didn't know who Sister Yang was, she felt reassured by his words and rushed off.
Bai Zhuo quietly observed everything happening in the ward, feeling quite calm. He didn't know how long had passed when the Chief Surgeon pulled down his mask, revealing a face that was slightly youthful yet marked by hardship. He glanced at the time; it was already past midnight. Finally, he sighed. He opened the door to the emergency room, where Ouyang Shirei stood with tear-streaked cheeks, looking like a pitiful flower cat. She tightly grasped the Chief Surgeon's hand and asked, "Doctor, doctor, how is he?"
The young doctor looked at Yang Liu beside her, who also appeared anxious, and shook his head helplessly. "I'm sorry, Sister Yang, and this lady; I've done my best. The patient is still in critical condition and remains unconscious. However, we have removed the bullet from his body. For now, this is all we can do. Are you family?"
Ouyang Shirei nodded without hesitation, "Yes, I am... I am his sister!"
"Alright, come with me to sign some documents. It's a strange symptom, and you should prepare for the worst. I checked, and your brother's brain has no injuries, but given the current situation, he might become a vegetable!"
Upon hearing this, Ouyang Shirei's face turned pale, and darkness clouded her vision as she collapsed to the side. Miao Xiaoqi reacted quickly and caught her. After a moment, Ouyang Shirei took a deep breath, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably...
The night was quiet. In the intensive care unit, Bai Zhuo's soul floated in the air. He approached his body, wanting to return to it, but no matter how hard he tried, there seemed to be a thick barrier between his soul and his body that he could not penetrate.
However, this situation felt strangely serene and peaceful. For a moment, he thought that leaving like this wouldn't be so bad. He was so tired. He had been alone for over ten years, without parents or support, and he knew how he had managed to endure. But when he saw Ouyang Shirei's tear-streaked face outside the door and Yang Liu's anxious expression, he immediately dismissed that thought. Things were different now! He had friends, someone he liked; he had things to care about!
Around two in the morning, three beautiful women outside the intensive care unit huddled together, drowsy. Ouyang Shirei's deep tear stains were heart-wrenching, causing Bai Zhuo great pain.
In the corridor, a cold wind blew through, bringing in a misty haze. As the mist dissipated, two figures appeared in the corridor! They were dressed in ancient official robes with long horse-like faces that looked eerie. One held shackles while the other wielded a long knife as they walked toward the intensive care unit—these were the Soul Lockers: Yin Chai—Horse-Face!
Suddenly, one of the Horse-Faces stopped in front of Yang Liu and sniffed curiously, exclaiming, "Brother, this is the Nine Profound Yin Body!"
"Brother, don't act recklessly! Although this girl's constitution is rare, she has plenty of yang energy; she doesn't have a short lifespan. If the General finds out, we won't be spared."
The Horse-Face shook its head regretfully. "I’m just sniffing; I wouldn’t dare break the rules... Let's go; this person hasn't reached the end of their lifespan yet but is dying unjustly. We’re unlucky to have taken on this hard task... sigh."
"Brother, don’t complain; the General assigned us this task because he trusts us. Let’s hurry in before it gets too late."
Bai Zhuo heard every word of their conversation clearly and felt an urgent anxiety rising within him, but it was futile.
How could I have died? How can I die? There are so many things I haven't done! I haven't married Sister Shirei yet; I haven't left descendants for the Bai Family. How can I be taken away like this? No! I can't just leave the Underworld! I want to go back! With that thought in mind, Bai Zhuo rammed his head against his own body fiercely, but it was of no use.
At that moment, the two Horse-Faces squeezed through the door and saw this scene. "Friend, stop wasting your effort; there are laws between life and death. You are already dead; the distance between yin and yang is not just what you see before you. Come with us; in your next life, be more careful and don’t die unjustly again."
Bai Zhuo took a few steps back and asked, "What if I don't go with you?"
One of the Horse-Face spirits calmly replied, "Friend, come with us. If you have no regrets in this life, you can avoid the disaster of imprisonment. We won't make things difficult for you. If you refuse to go, we will forcibly take you. Staying in the Underworld, you'll just be a wandering soul, eventually targeted by the Yin Chai of the Underworld, leading to a fate worse than death. It would be a loss for you."
The other Horse-Face chimed in, "Exactly, friend. Not only can you avoid imprisonment, but in your next life, you could be reborn as a human and live a long life. Why not seize such an opportunity? Come with us."
Bai Zhuo remained unmoved. "I will settle my affairs in this life. If I can't even handle matters in this life, how can I talk about the next? I want to stay in the Underworld; even if I become a wandering ghost, I won't go with you."
The Horse-Face with a slightly more pronounced expression widened its eyes and snorted angrily, "You shouldn't refuse a toast and instead ask for a punishment! My brother and I are being polite because of your unjust death. If you dare to resist, don't blame us for being rude!"
The other Horse-Face didn't give up on persuading him. "Friend, your name is already marked in the Book of Life and Death. No matter how much you struggle, you can't escape Yama's gaze. I know you're unwilling; we are also human. Life is unpredictable; perhaps your next life will be your true home!"
"Shut your damn mouth!" A furious roar echoed through the air, startling the two Horse-Faces. They pointed their long knives at Bai Zhuo and demanded, "What did you just say? Say it again if you dare!" Bai Zhuo widened his eyes innocently and shook his head, "I didn't say anything!"
But that voice was unmistakably Bai Zhuo's tone; however, he hadn't spoken at all. Where did that voice come from?
"I said shut your damn mouth!"
"Who dares to mock the Yin Chai?" The two Horse-Faces shouted in unison.
Bai Zhuo looked around for the source of the voice and was instantly dumbfounded! He saw his own body standing up from the bed, pulling out the needles and tubes attached to it. This scene was simply horrifying!
The two Horse-Faces exchanged terrified glances before looking back at Bai Zhuo, both feeling utterly incredulous! How could a dead person whose soul had already departed stand up on its own with awareness?
"Damn it! I finally broke through all those restrictions to find a glimmer of hope, only to almost be sabotaged by myself!" Bai Zhuo's body radiated a faint golden light, but his eyes were vacant—clearly showing signs of having lost his soul.
Bai Zhuo pointed at himself and stammered incoherently, "Me? I sabotaged you? No, no, no... Who are you?"
"Bai Zhuo" smiled eerily, "I am you, and you are me. Can't you see how obvious that is? I really don't know how you've managed to live this long."
The two Horse-Faces were astonished, and one of them couldn't help but shout at "Bai Zhuo," "Yin Chai is on duty! Where did this ghost come from? Get lost, or don't blame us for being rude!"
"Bai Zhuo" glanced disdainfully at the two Horse-Faces. "You two ants think you can capture my soul? Go back and tell Shentu Yulei that I, Bai Zhuo, am not going to the Underworld!"
The Horse-Face who heard "Shentu Yulei" found the name somewhat familiar. Just as he was pondering who this person was, his brother swung his blade, his horse face twisted in rage as he shouted, "How dare you! You actually dare to call the Eastern Ghost Emperor by name! I see you're eager to head to hell!"
However, "Bai Zhuo" was not afraid at all. Instead, he glared with shining eyes and shouted back, "You insolent fool! A mere ant dares to be so arrogant in front of me!"
His roar sounded like thunder, causing the medical equipment in the intensive care unit to buzz and startling three women outside the door. The two Horse-Faces, touched by the golden light emanating from "Bai Zhuo," didn't even have a chance to scream before their souls were scattered!
"Bai Zhuo" was taken aback. "Hey! They are Yin Chai! You just killed them without giving them a chance to reincarnate?"
"Bai Zhuo" chuckled lightly. "In this realm, there are hardly any who dare to speak to me like that... And one more thing, you've got it wrong; it's not 'you,' it's 'me!'"
"Bai Zhuo" felt confused and asked, "Who are you? Why are you in my body?"
"You are me, and I am you." "Bai Zhuo" looked at Bai Zhuo and said, "Recognize who you are, and you'll gain supreme power! My family suffered because they knew too much and left this world. To hell with their condemnation and fate! Remember, you are me, and I am you. Understand yourself, and this realm will be yours to roam!"
"Bai Zhuo" pointed at Bai Zhuo. A wave of dizziness hit him as a powerful force emanated from the figure across from him, completely irresistible. Pain surged through him, especially in the area where he had been shot between his left abdomen and ribs.
The pain intensified; his eyelids felt heavy. Bai Zhuo desperately wanted to sleep. Outside the door, Ouyang Shirei and the others rushed into the room, only to hear him curse, "Damn! Not again..." before falling silent. He fainted once more.
His eyelids felt incredibly heavy; his mouth was dry and parched, and his stomach growled with hunger. Closing his eyes plunged him into endless darkness. Water...
A cool softness brushed against his lips as warm water flowed into his mouth. His cracked lips seemed to find a source of water and greedily absorbed it until it was gone. Moments later, more water flowed in; his dry lips were like parched fields receiving nourishing rain.
Bai Zhuo wanted to open his eyes but felt too exhausted. He wished he could sleep forever, into the dimness or until the end of the world. Yet voices kept calling his name nearby, disturbing his slumber and making him quite annoyed.
He had a nightmare, a very bad one. He dreamed that he had not posted the rental notice. He did not meet Lin Yao Yao, did not encounter Su Meiniang, nor the female ghost who was supposed to marry him in a Ghost Marriage. He did not meet Yang Liu either. In his dream, he did not know Yang Liu, nor Miao Xiaoqi. That night, he did not go to the Silver Tower Restaurant with Yang Liu, did not run into Zhou Liang, but he received a text message from Ouyang Shirei. Of course, he rushed to save her without hesitation. When he arrived by taxi, only Ouyang Shirei's cold body remained at the scene; she had committed suicide. He could not cry out loud, holding her lifeless body tightly, wishing to merge her into himself...
"Sister Shirei..."
Tears involuntarily streamed down his face. Bai Zhuo suddenly woke up, pain radiating from his ribs reminded him that it was just a dream, and thankfully, Ouyang Shirei had been saved by him...
"Bai!" A joyful voice came from beside him; it was Ouyang Shirei. She was arranging flowers in a vase on the bedside. Upon seeing Bai Zhuo open his eyes, she immediately dropped the yellow flower she was holding and rushed over.
Ouyang Shirei avoided Bai Zhuo's injury and leaned on his chest, sobbing uncontrollably.
Bai Zhuo felt touched and secretly delighted. Seeing Ouyang Shirei's slender figure, his voice came out hoarse and dry: "Sister Shirei, you've lost weight."
With her face pressed against his heart, listening to its strong rhythm, Ouyang Shirei smiled through her tears: "It's good that you woke up, it's good..."
Bai Zhuo felt a bit shy and embarrassed: "Sister Shirei... I'm so thirsty." Only then did Ouyang Shirei get up, wipe away her tears, and pour him a full glass of warm water. Bai Zhuo reached for the cup, but Ouyang Shirei pressed down his hand: "You're injured; let me feed you!"
The most difficult thing to bear is the kindness of a beauty. Bai Zhuo's face turned red as he allowed Ouyang Shirei to take charge. He took a big gulp of water and noticed something strange about Ouyang Shirei's lips; they were unpainted but slightly red and seemed a bit swollen. He asked: "Sister Shirei, why are your lips swollen?"
Ouyang Shirei's hands trembled, spilling quite a bit of warm water onto Bai Zhuo. She pretended to glare at him in anger while Bai Zhuo looked innocent and confused about what was happening...
