My Tenant is a Female Ghost
Bai Zhuo had committed murder, and murder was a crime. This time was different from the previous Ghost Hunting Competition; in that competition, life and death were irrelevant as long as it did not harm society. Even if there were casualties, the police would turn a blind eye, which was an unspoken rule. But this time, there would be no such hidden rules to protect him. Bai Zhuo was mentally prepared for this.
What Bai Zhuo did not know was that the Yin Yang Realm in Ningcheng had already turned chaotic. The Young Master of the Yin-Yang Family, Tang Jie, had been missing for over half a month. In the end, the police confirmed that he had been murdered in a room on his own property, and there were no remains left! The police reviewed the hotel surveillance footage and found that all recordings from around the hotel had mysteriously been deleted over the past month. Two waitstaff from the second floor of the restaurant had also vanished without a trace, and their families could no longer find any information about them!
The case had reached a dead end. Tang Jie’s personal driver, Zhou Liang, naturally became a prime suspect for the police. Under pressure from the investigation, Zhou Liang revealed that the last person Tang Jie had come into contact with before his disappearance was Ouyang Shirei.
Bai Zhuo was meticulous. When Yang Liu informed him of this news, he immediately covered Ouyang Shirei's mouth, startling her. With a serious expression, Bai Zhuo pointed to his own mouth and then to his ears, signaling her not to speak carelessly. “Sister Shirei, help me out for a walk; it’s too stuffy in here.”
Ouyang Shirei nodded and assisted him out of the room.
He pulled out his phone and made a call.
“Hello, who is this?” A melodious female voice came from the other end.
“I’m looking for Huang Jiangliu; please let him take my call.”
“I’m sorry, sir, Chairman Huang is currently in an important meeting and cannot take your call. I am his secretary; is there anything I can pass along?”
“Just tell him Bai Zhuo needs to speak with him and ask him to call me back.”
“Alright, sir, I will relay your message.” The secretary hung up but then sneered softly to herself: “That name sounds somewhat familiar… But who do you think you are to call Chairman Huang by his name? You think he’ll come running just because you need something? Ridiculous…” The new secretary chuckled behind Bai Zhuo’s back before returning to her phone.
However, after some thought, she picked up Huang Jiangliu’s phone to take a look. She noticed that in the call log on Huang Jiangliu’s phone, there was only one entry: “Bai Zhuo,” with no other details.
She browsed through the contacts and found that all of them had prefixes like “Chairman of Such-and-Such Group” or “Manager Wang,” except for Bai Zhuo’s contact, which was simply listed as “Bai Zhuo” without any description.
The secretary hesitated. Chairman Huang was a very meticulous boss who treated his subordinates kindly and never acted inappropriately towards female employees. She cherished this hard-earned job. However, she recalled that last month there had been a major restructuring in the company that led to many long-time employees being dismissed; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to become Chairman Huang's secretary! Not wanting to lose her job, she thought through some details and gave her cheeks a firm slap while muttering to herself: “Yun, you really need to change your narrow-minded attitude! You’re now Chairman Huang’s secretary; you need to be more serious about your work and be as meticulous as Chairman Huang!”
The secretary took a deep breath and knocked solemnly on the door of the Conference Hall before stepping inside. An old shareholder of the company cast a displeased glance at the secretary who had interrupted the meeting and muttered, "No respect for the rules!"
Upon hearing this, the secretary's face turned pale, anxiety gnawed at her heart, but at this point, there was no turning back. She steeled herself, lifted her chin, and approached Huang Jiangliu with a composed demeanor. Bowing slightly, she said, "Mr. Huang, a Mr. Bai Zhuo called for you. It seems urgent, so I came in to inform you..."
"Mr. Bai Zhuo... Bai Zhuo?" As soon as Huang Jiangliu heard it was a call from Bai Zhuo, he immediately stood up and waved his hand decisively. "Ladies and gentlemen, this meeting is adjourned. I have urgent matters to attend to. My apologies; you may all leave." He took the phone from the secretary's hand and added, "Liu Yun, you did well. From the moment you walked in, you are officially my secretary now. Go get the car; I'll wait for you at the entrance."
This was truly a life-changing decision! Liu Yun felt overjoyed but didn't want to lose face in front of those shareholders who looked down on her. She suppressed her excitement and replied with a slightly trembling voice, "Yes, yes, Mr. Huang!"
...
Buzzing sounds filled the air as Bai Zhuo's phone rang; it was Huang Jiangliu calling. He dismissed Ouyang Shirei, who obediently stepped aside. For some reason, Ouyang Shirei felt that Bai Zhuo now exuded an air of arrogance and had become more assertive in his speech.
Bai Zhuo answered the call, and Huang Jiangliu's voice came through. "Hello, Mr. Bai, it's me, Huang Jiangliu!"
"Mr. Huang, come to the municipal hospital. I suspect my ward is being monitored; you know what to do."
Upon hearing this, Huang Jiangliu felt surprised but held no resentment because he was a man of deep loyalty and kept his promises. He knew that without Bai Zhuo, he wouldn't be having this conversation at all! He replied, "Understood, Mr. Bai. I will arrive within half an hour."
Sure enough, within twenty minutes, Huang Jiangliu called again.
"Mr. Bai, I've arrived. Where are you?"
"I'm in Room 707 of the Intensive Care Unit; just come up."
"Okay, please hold on for a moment."
After hanging up, Liu Yun couldn't help but feel curious as she witnessed this high-ranking Huang Jiangliu displaying such humility for the first time in two months. Who exactly was this familiar name's owner?
In Bai Zhuo's hospital room, Liu Yun stood outside the door, her eyes wide as she looked at Bai Zhuo lying on the bed, her heart filled with mixed emotions. Bai Zhuo glanced at her curiously before turning his gaze away. She knew Bai Zhuo, but Bai Zhuo had long forgotten her.
Huang Jiangliu entered with several suited subordinates, each holding specialized precision instruments, searching the room thoroughly. As expected by Bai Zhuo, they discovered dozens of large listening devices hidden within the room.
Bai Zhuo counted and found at least eighteen listening devices! He cursed angrily, "Damn it! Destroy these things!"
Huang Jiangliu looked at his subordinates and commanded, "Destroy them!" "Understood, Boss!"
The suited subordinates picked up a larger device and aimed it at the listening devices. They heard several faint explosions as the expensive devices, worth thousands or even tens of thousands, were reduced to scrap metal.
One bespectacled subordinate spoke up, "Boss, Mr. Bai, I noticed something unusual about this lady..."
Bai Zhuo replied, "I knew there was something!"
Indeed, the bespectacled man found two diamond-like ornaments hidden in Ouyang Shirei's collar and pant legs. Bai Zhuo took them and examined them closely; both were listening devices! With gritted teeth, he crushed the devices and tossed them aside.
Huang Jiangliu praised the bespectacled subordinate, saying, "Well done, Liang. A bonus of one hundred thousand will be credited to your account!"
Liang was overjoyed and bowed slightly, saying, "Thank you, Huang Dong!" The other colleagues cast envious glances at him while searching for any overlooked traces in hopes of earning praise from the Boss. Unfortunately for them, they would be disappointed.
Huang Jiangliu asked, "Mr. Bai, how did you get so seriously injured this time? Who was behind it?"
"I killed someone," Bai Zhuo replied calmly.
Huang Jiangliu's heart skipped a beat; however, being a seasoned individual, he suppressed his surprise and said, "You all can leave for now." He turned to Liu Yun and instructed, "Liu, close the door."
Once everyone had exited, Huang Jiangliu asked, "I understand now. Mr. Bai, do you have any instructions?"
Bai Zhuo glanced at Huang Jiangliu, relishing the feeling of being in a position of power. The unconditional trust and obedience from Huang Jiangliu made Bai Zhuo feel that this was only natural.
He said, "I killed one of the shareholders of the Sun and Moon Group, the Young Master of the Tang family, Tang Jie!" Huang Jiangliu suddenly realized that the murder case that had been causing such a stir recently was orchestrated by Bai Zhuo himself. No wonder! He nodded, his heart stirred by tumultuous waves, but his face remained calm.
Bai Zhuo continued, "But don't worry, I'm not someone who kills innocents indiscriminately. There are reasons for his death!" With a wicked smile, a slender green snake slithered up from the floor and coiled around Bai Zhuo's hand. In Huang Jiangliu's terrified gaze, it flicked its tongue at him and hissed.
Huang Jiangliu's breath quickened as he admired, "Mr. Bai is indeed extraordinary to be able to tame such a venomous creature!" He felt even more respect for Bai Zhuo.
Of course, Bai Zhuo's actions were mostly for show; however, the effect was unexpectedly good. He said, "I have two friends who helped me eliminate future troubles after the incident. Now the police suspect that it was Ouyang Shirei who did it. These listening devices are probably all from the police. They haven't directly arrested Sister Shirei because they likely don't believe that a weak woman could kill strong men and dispose of the bodies in such a short time. Given more time, it wouldn't be hard to trace it back to me."
Bai Zhuo looked gently at Ouyang Shirei and continued, "A man must know when to act and when not to... If I want to eliminate future troubles and let you launch an attack on the Sun and Moon Group, how confident are you in taking it down?"
In the business world, which resembled a battlefield, Huang Jiangliu's demeanor changed entirely at the mention of commerce. After some calculation in his mind, he replied, "Conservatively speaking, I only have a forty percent chance."
Bai Zhuo was surprised. "Forty percent? That's so low?" Huang Jiangliu nodded and then shook his head. "Mr. Bai, you may not know this, but the business world is murky and deep. According to my investigation, the interests within the Sun and Moon Group are complex; it's not just about the Tang family but also involves many prominent families from Ningcheng and even Haicheng. If it were just about dealing with the Tang family's business influence, I would have ninety-nine percent confidence!"
Bai Zhuo fell silent for a moment. "What if we add in the Yang Family and Ge Family?"
"The Yang Family? Which Yang Family?" Huang Jiangliu asked.
"How many Yang Families are there in Ningcheng?" Bai Zhuo countered.
Huang Jiangliu suddenly understood and lowered his head in silence as he calculated again. After a moment, he said, "The Ningcheng Yang Family is very powerful; their influence surpasses mine! However, most of their power is overseas and won't be of much use here. As for the Ge Family, I'm not too clear about them; families like that Yin-Yang Family are inaccessible to ordinary people without an introduction. I can only say that with the Yang Family added in, our chances against the Sun and Moon Group would be fifty-fifty!"
After hearing this, Bai Zhuo frowned and muttered to himself, "Only fifty-fifty? That’s troublesome." Huang Jiangliu looked apologetic. "Mr. Bai, I'm truly sorry that I can't help you resolve your concerns. But as long as you give the order, I Huang Jiangliu will face any danger without flinching! My life belongs to Mr. Bai!"
Bai Zhuo shook his head. "This isn't your fault. Now that I understand the situation better, let's do this: arrange for a scapegoat to stabilize the police's influence first. But I believe that the Tang family won't let this go easily; dealing with them requires careful planning... You take care of it; I'll leave this matter in your hands!"
"Alright, you can leave this matter to me!" Huang Jiangliu assured, patting his chest. He then asked, "Mr. Bai, is there anything else you need me to do?"
Bai Zhuo shook his head. "That's it. Just go ahead and make the arrangements. If anything comes up, call me... Oh, by the way, your Junhao has a unique constitution. Take this talisman home and hang it up; it's a protective charm that wards off evil spirits within a hundred meters."
Huang Jiangliu felt grateful as he accepted the talisman. "Thank you, Mr. Bai!"
Holding the purple high-level talisman, Huang Jiangliu left happily. He carefully tucked it away and turned to find his newly hired secretary looking somewhat distracted. "Liu, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Liu Yun snapped back to reality, her expression bittersweet as she forced a smile and shook her head. "No, no, Huang Dong, I'm fine. Where are we headed now?"
"Well, if you're fine, that's good. I'm going home now; just drop me off and I'll give you the rest of the day off."
"Sure thing, Huang Dong."
...
As Huang Jiangliu and his group had just exited the hospital, a large group of uniformed officers surged into Bai Zhuo's ward! One slightly plump officer approached Ouyang Shirei with a stern tone. "Are you Ouyang? I'm Li Tao, the captain of the city's Criminal Investigation Team. After our investigation, I suspect you're involved in a serious murder case and need you to cooperate with us and come with us for a while!"
Damn! As soon as the listening device was destroyed, these people showed up—talk about fast! If I hadn't prepared in advance, I would have been caught off guard!
Ouyang Shirei glanced back at Bai Zhuo, who nodded in response with a knowing look and winked at her. However, one of the detectives noticed their exchange and shouted, "Hey! What are you two doing?"
