“Bai!” “Brother Bai!”
The Ghost Fetus's tongue shot towards Bai Zhuo's heart with ferocity. Ouyang Shirei and Miao Xiaoqi gasped in shock, as if time had frozen in that moment. Bai Zhuo felt the presence of death once again!
At that moment, Ouyang Shirei desperately wished for a miracle. It was then she realized that she truly liked Bai Zhuo.
Unfortunately, the miracle did not occur. The Ghost Fetus's tongue struck Bai Zhuo's heart like a bullet, splattering droplets of blood onto Ge Shui Lian's face. Bai Zhuo's expression twisted in pain as his body flew backward.
“No!” Ouyang Shirei's tears fell like rain as she rushed forward.
Bai Zhuo lay on the ground, blood oozing from the corner of his mouth, his chest a gruesome mess. Ouyang Shirei cried uncontrollably, “Bai, Bai! Wake up, don’t scare your sister!” But Bai Zhuo lay there with his eyes tightly shut, unresponsive.
Ge Shui Lian knelt on the ground, her face smeared with some of Bai Zhuo's blood, her eyes vacant.
He saved me? Why would he save me? He should hate me… But… why did he save me? Why was it you who saved me? Why did you use your life to save me?
“Brother Bai!” Miao Xiaoqi cried out in despair. Although she hadn’t spoken much with Bai Zhuo, she knew that this Brother Bai, who liked to peek at Sister Yangliu while she bathed, was a good person. He cared for her like a true brother, cooking for her and helping her through her sadness! She liked this Brother Bai.
The twenty or so children present and Qin Mother fell silent, watching in sorrow as Bai Zhuo lay on the ground, all quietly sobbing.
The Ghost Fetus cackled, “Hehehe… you should worry about yourselves first. Soon enough, you’ll be going to hell to accompany him! Hehehe… it’s better this way; if he’s alone on Yellow Springs Road, he’ll be lonely…”
Ge Shui Lian's eyes brimmed with tears as her gaze suddenly fell upon a stone plate at Bai Zhuo's feet.
"The Five Elements Plate?" Ge Shui Lian wiped away her tears, puzzled. "Isn't this my senior brother Zheng Ming's Five Elements Plate? How did it end up with Bai Zhuo?" She rushed over to pick up the Five Elements Plate, determination settling in her heart. She turned to Miao Xiaoqi and asked, "Qi, do you want to take revenge for Bai Zhuo?"
Miao Xiaoqi nodded vigorously. Ge Shui Lian continued, "I will activate the Five Elements Barrier shortly. Qi, as a member of the Miaojiang Gu Clan, you should know a thing or two about exorcising spirits. Inside the barrier, you will be impervious to weapons and immune to evil influences. However, you must act quickly; otherwise, both of us will be in grave danger!"
Though only sixteen years old, Miao Xiaoqi was a fierce Miaojiang girl. Her fiery spirit meant she was not afraid of these supernatural beings. The mix of sorrow and rage coursing through her made her fearless in the face of death. She declared resolutely, "As long as I can avenge Brother Bai, I am not afraid!"
Ge Shui Lian bit her fingertip to draw blood and painted a blood talisman on Miao Xiaoqi's arm. Then she laid the Five Elements Plate flat on the ground, forming hand seals as she glared fiercely at the monster. "Ghost Fetus... not within the Three Realms, jumping out of the Five Elements? Hmph! Only a Buddha has that qualification. You, a mere Ghost Fetus, dare to wield such power?" Her hands formed intricate seals, and with a crack, the inner plate of the Five Elements Plate caved in, revealing five sharp-spiked holes. A circle of stone shards erupted around the plate.
The Five Elements Plate grew larger, displaying the complete Curse Seal of the Five Elements within it. Ge Shui Lian's voice dripped with murderous intent as she proclaimed, "If you are not within the Five Elements, then I shall drag you into them!"
Ge Shui Lian swiftly formed more hand seals and placed her right hand in the center of the Five Elements Plate. Her five slender fingers pressed down on the five holes. Sharp stone spikes pierced her fingertips, and blood flowed freely from her fingers into the holes, spilling over and following the Curse Seal patterns across the entire plate.
"Clear fingers, earth spirits clear... Two Instruments and Four Symbols, Five Elements and Eight Trigrams, origin of all things... Earth and Heaven, let the Dao assist me—Five Elements, Barrier! Open!" Ge Shui Lian shouted fiercely. "Qi, now is the time!"
Upon hearing Ge Shui Lian's command, Miao Xiaoqi charged toward the Ghost Fetus!
The Ghost Fetus began to panic as Ge Shui Lian started chanting. Hearing her shout made it want to flee; however, it was too late—Miao Xiaoqi had already seized its arm.
The moment Miao Xiaoqi touched the Ghost Fetus, the inner plate beneath Ge Shui Lian's fingers began to spin. At that instant, both Miao Xiaoqi and the Ghost Fetus vanished from sight!
Ge Shui Lian knew they had entered the barrier together.
At this moment, Ge Shui Lian's expression was somewhat grim as her right hand pressed firmly against the continuously rotating Five Elements Plate. Pain pierced through her heart, yet she endured it!
She had overestimated how long the Five Elements Plate could last. She had seen Zheng Ming use this barrier before, and now she finally understood the immense suffering Zheng Ming had endured at that time!
The inner disk of the Five Elements Plate spun faster, shortening the duration of the barrier. While human interference could prolong the barrier's time, it came with the risk of backlash!
Ge Shui Lian pressed down hard on the inner disk, which was studded with sharp spikes, preventing it from spinning and extending the barrier's duration. Her right hand trembled incessantly, pain causing cold sweat to stream down her face. However, this pain was nothing compared to the impact from Bai Zhuo—what hurt more?
She disliked Bai Zhuo, even going so far as to describe her feelings as loathing, and she knew that Bai Zhuo felt the same about her. Blood flowed within the Five Elements Plate, gradually filling up the character for "Earth," and had already spilled into half of the character for "Fire"! But Miao Xiaoqi had not yet emerged from the barrier; she knew that the battle was not over. Wiping away the stinging sweat from her brow with her left hand, she took a deep breath and pressed down harder on the inner disk to keep it from spinning, but the pain intensified.
...
"Crack, crack, crack..." The inner disk of the Five Elements Plate emitted sounds of stones colliding and grinding against each other. The blood in the plate had filled up the character for "Fire" and began to flow toward "Water." Ge Shui Lian's right hand twisted in agony, her face contorted in pain. She knew that if she didn't let go and continued to hold on like this, her hand would surely break! She wanted to release her grip, but she couldn't!
Because she also knew that now Bai Zhuo was dead; if she let go even for a moment, it would mean failure—meaning everyone present would perish! She glanced at the innocent children hiding behind Qin Zhu and once again wore a determined expression as she firmly held down the inner disk of the Five Elements Plate that kept spinning...
