"My Tenant is a Female Ghost" features a female ghost.
"Why would the breakthrough point be on that Wang Kun?" Hu Fei asked curiously.
Cai Wenwu also inquired, "The corpse raiser Wang Kun? Who is that?" Bai Zhuo explained, "Wang Kun is a well-known Taoist priest from Haicheng. A few months ago, he was looking for opportunities to infiltrate Ningcheng's Yin Yang Realm, but due to various coincidences, I thwarted his plans. This morning, I happened to see the photo you showed me, Uncle Hu, and my intuition tells me this matter is closely related to Wang Kun!"
As for Wang Kun, Huang Jiangliu had suffered losses at his hands before. If it weren't for Bai Zhuo's cleverness in dealing with Wang Kun, the latter's objectives would have long been achieved.
"Wang Kun... so we move tonight?" Cai Wenwu asked.
Bai Zhuo shook his head. "We haven't figured out Wang Kun's movements yet, so we shouldn't act rashly to avoid alerting him. However, we must find out his whereabouts and keep him under surveillance. For now, our priority is to check out the ancient tomb and see if we can be of assistance. At least we need to control the situation."
Cai Wenwu replied, "Alright, let's follow Brother Bai's lead."
Huang Jiangliu then spoke up, "I can't help much with anything else, but if you need support with supplies, feel free to reach out to me."
Hu Fei chuckled, "Haha, as expected of the underworld boss Crown Prince Huang; your spirit hasn't diminished since back in the day."
Bai Zhuo asked curiously, "What prince?" Huang Jiangliu covered his face and said, "Uh... Director Hu, that's all in the past. Please don't tease me; I'm not thick-skinned."
"Oh? You didn't know, nephew?" Hu Fei extinguished his cigarette and filled the drinks for Bai Zhuo and the others. "Back then, he was the notorious gang leader in Ningcheng, known as Crown Prince Huang! But at that time, I was just a section chief and didn't oversee this area much; we didn't have much interaction."
Huang Jiangliu smiled wryly. "That's ancient history. If it weren't for meeting Zhang Qin, my life would have turned out quite differently."
"Zhang Qin? There seems to be some intrigue there," Bai Zhuo turned to Hu Fei and asked, "Isn't that... your aunt?"
Hu Fei candidly admitted, "I only learned about this later. Back then, Crown Prince Huang pursued Zhang Qin without success and surrounded her with a large group of followers. But Zhang Qin was tough; she held her ground. Later, I happened to be assigned here and formed a connection with Zhang Qin, which made Crown Prince Huang give up. After that, I don't know how it happened, but he disappeared without a trace. I never expected that he would rise to prominence and become one of the few wealthy individuals in Ningcheng. It's truly astonishing."
"Who isn't?" Bai Zhuo replied. "I was quite a prominent figure in the underworld back in the day until I met Zhang Qin..."
Bai Zhuo asked with great interest, "What exactly made you give up your position?"
"Heh heh, Mr. Bai, it wasn't really a throne; it was just a title given by everyone. At that time, it was simply because Zhang Qin... she didn't like people from the underworld... so I left the gang and started my own business."
Bai Zhuo felt disappointed upon hearing this. He had expected some dramatic tale of grievances and vendettas but found it to be so simple. However, upon reflection, he thought it didn't quite add up; if that were the case, Aunt Zhang wouldn't have exaggerated so much.
After several rounds of drinks, everyone exchanged numbers and got acquainted. Bai Zhuo and Cai Wenwu agreed on a time and place for their expedition to the ancient tomb the next day.
The following day, Bai Zhuo sat in Cai Wenwu's car and let out a long yawn. Cai Wenwu asked, "What's wrong, Brother Bai? Didn't sleep well last night?"
Bai Zhuo shrugged noncommittally. "Yeah, there were a few troublesome spirits at home; it was quite annoying." He certainly wouldn't tell him that he couldn't sleep all night because he missed Kagura Aoi's body but was hindered by Su Meiniang's presence, making it impossible for him to get any rest.
Cai Wenwu chuckled, "No wonder you're so thin; with all those late-night escapades... you should take care of your health!"
Bai Zhuo shot him a glare. "What do you know? My 'spirits' are quite literal; in every sense of the word, they are real spirits! Do you understand?"
Cai Wenwu nodded seriously. "I understand, I understand..." But soon after, he burst into laughter again. Bai Zhuo sighed in exasperation. "Forget it; you don't get it anyway. Think what you want; as long as you're happy."
The car left the national road and continued down a winding path. After some time, the surroundings began to grow desolate, turning into a nearly deserted mountain road.
"Almost there, just ahead on the mountainside."
Bai Zhuo, feeling drowsy, got up and slapped his cheeks, instantly feeling much more awake. The vehicle turned a corner, revealing a vast flat area where rows of large military tents had been set up—this was clearly a temporary camp! The camp looked impressive, with two metal fences covered in sharp spikes at the entrance.
At the gate stood soldiers in green military uniforms, shouldering rifles, who stopped the vehicle. Cai Wenwu rolled down the window and showed his face. "Gentlemen, thank you for your hard work."
The two soldiers recognized Cai Wenwu immediately and saluted. "Good day, Commander!"
Cai Wenwu returned the salute. "Alright, let me in." However, one of the soldiers looked at Bai Zhuo and firmly said, "Sorry, Commander, but without the Commander's permission, no unauthorized personnel are allowed to enter."
"Tsk... what a hassle," Cai Wenwu muttered as he picked up his phone and dialed a number. Before the phone even rang once, it was answered. Bai Zhuo could clearly hear a deafening voice on the other end demanding, "Cai Wenwu! You have left your post without permission. If you don't have a reasonable explanation, be prepared for disciplinary action!"
Cai Wenwu held the phone away from his ear until the shouting subsided before responding. "I was out on official business last night and brought someone back with me. Please let the guard open the gate."
"What? Official business! Let me remind you, Cai Wenwu, we haven't resolved the issue of the missing firearms yet. Don't get yourself into more trouble! Your current task is to keep an eye on the ancient tomb and wait for orders from above!"
"Got it, got it. Just let me in quickly; I promise there won't be a next time."
"You little brat! How dare you speak to your superior like that!"
Cai Wenwu replied lethargically, "Old Liu, are you on your period or something?"
There was silence on the other end for a moment before an explosion of curses erupted. However, Cai Wenwu didn't give his superior a chance to respond; he simply hung up! Bai Zhuo had never seen such a bold subordinate before!
Cai Wenwu shook his phone at the guards, saying, "Look, the Commander agreed. Let me in quickly."
The two guards exchanged glances, feeling a bit speechless. They had no choice but to let him through. After all, he was someone who dared to scold even the leaders; who else would have the guts to do that?
Once inside the camp, Cai Wenwu arranged a tent for Bai Zhuo and grabbed some equipment before pulling Bai Zhuo toward the direction of the ancient tomb. The closer they got, the heavier the atmosphere became, and the presence of Yin Qi intensified.
After walking for a while, Bai Zhuo suddenly stopped and pulled Cai Wenwu back. "Wu, wait a moment."
Cai Wenwu asked, "What's wrong, brother?"
Bai Zhuo stepped back a few paces and pointed to a spot on the ground. "If possible, it would be best to build a defensive line here."
Without hesitation, Cai Wenwu called over a passing officer. "Hey you, gather people and set up a defensive line at this point. Remember! A defensive line! I want one that even tanks can't breach!"
The officer was taken aback, and Cai Wenwu immediately began to scold him, spitting as he spoke. "Did you not hear what I said?"
The unfortunate officer stood there with Cai Wenwu's saliva on his face, not daring to retort. He could only ask pitifully, "I heard you, Commander, but... Commander, which direction should this defensive line face? Should we dig a trench and surround it on all sides?"
Bai Zhuo replied, "Facing the direction of the ancient tomb." As soon as he finished speaking, Cai Wenwu took over and shouted loudly, "Did you hear that? Hurry up and go!"
The unfortunate officer snapped to attention and saluted sharply. "Yes! Commander!"
As the officer ran off into the distance, Bai Zhuo couldn't help but feel exasperated. "Hey, hey, hey! Is everyone in your army like this?"
Cai Wenwu chuckled, "Not really. It's just that I used to get scolded harshly by those officers, so now when I face these rookies, I have to train them hard to relieve my pent-up frustration!"
"I don't quite understand you soldiers," Bai Zhuo said as he walked ahead, pointing at the half-excavated ancient tomb. "It's strange that the Yin Qi is spreading out in a fan shape. The reason we established a defensive line back there is that the Yin Qi weakens at that point. I'm worried we won't be able to handle the Zombie if it comes to that."
Cai Wenwu nodded, somewhat understanding, and asked, "Can you actually feel this 'Yin Qi'? I can't sense anything at all; it seems the area back there is no different from here."
Bai Zhuo smiled, "You haven't come into contact with these things, so of course you wouldn't feel anything. Here, open your mouth and take a deep breath."
Cai Wenwu followed his instructions and inhaled deeply. After a moment of silence, he was about to ask what was happening when suddenly he felt a wave of spasms in his abdomen, and he began to gag uncontrollably.
"Ugh... Ugh! Bai... Brother Bai... Ugh! What's happening? Ugh..." Cai Wenwu asked with a pale face.
Bai Zhuo patted Cai Wenwu's back reassuringly. "It's okay, it's okay. Just a few dry heaves and it will pass. This is a natural reaction of the body to reject foreign substances." After half a minute of gagging, Cai Wenwu finally regained his composure. "Brother Bai... in the future, if we encounter something like this again, please don't make me try it... This unknown feeling is just too unpleasant."
"Haha, alright, I'll be straightforward next time," Bai Zhuo replied with a laugh. Suddenly, they heard a commotion ahead. Bai Zhuo and Cai Wenwu exchanged glances and ran toward the ancient tomb.
Cai Wenwu caught hold of a soldier who looked anxious as he rushed out. "What happened?"
"Zombie... Zombie... A black Zombie has come out!" (To be continued.)
