Although these punks appeared to be flaunting their bravado, they were nothing compared to professionals. In just a few rounds, several of their members had already been taken down by Yan Junde. The rest were left dumbfounded, shrinking back against the wall, no longer daring to step forward. Yan Junde tossed his stick onto the ground and said, "Is there anyone else?" 0

Seeing that these people had been intimidated by Yan Junde's presence, I knew they wouldn't dare to make a move. I pulled out my police badge and said, "I'm here on official business. I didn't expect you to dare assault an officer. You've got quite the nerve. Call the local precinct; the rest of you will be taken in, and Gangzi will come with us for questioning." 0

"What?" Gangzi exclaimed. "Police? I thought you were..." 0

Back at the Police Department, I personally interrogated Gangzi. The result was that he was cleared of suspicion. For the past few days, Gangzi had been hiding out in an internet café in the village, and many could vouch for him. However, his disappearance was indeed related to Huang Yajie. It turned out that Huang Yajie had dated Gangzi for a month, but later seemed to have hooked up with a wealthy man and wanted to break up with Gangzi. 0

Naturally, Gangzi wasn't willing to accept this and threatened that anyone who dared to take his girl would face dire consequences. Unfortunately for him, he had picked a fight with someone who was genuinely formidable; he was just a small-time thug. 0

There's a story that goes like this: a foreign child asked his father what organized crime was. The father explained that it involved people dressed in suits, speaking politely, sipping tea, doing charity work, and discussing life—that's what organized crime was. The child then asked about those rough-looking individuals who frequently caused trouble. The father replied that those people were just fools. 0

This time, Gangzi was indeed the fool because his opponent was truly powerful. Initially, Gangzi thought he could stand up to this person, but within a day, he lost his job, his home was vandalized, and he found himself constantly watched by a group of ten or so people near his house. Realizing he had gotten himself into serious trouble, he decided to lay low at his cousin's internet café for two weeks, hoping things would blow over. 0

Little did he know that our appearance made him think that trouble had come knocking again. Trapped inside the café with no way to escape, he felt compelled to fight back. Gangzi didn't even know what his opponent looked like or their name before he fell into deep trouble. On the day Huang Yajie went missing, Gangzi had spoken with her over the phone; Captain Jiang used this detail to track down Gangzi. 0

Gangzi said Huang Yajie told him not to bother her anymore and mentioned that her new partner was a big boss who operated in both legal and illegal circles. Although Gangzi didn't know who this big boss was, he remembered the names of those who had beaten him up. They had business cards from someone at Eagle Security Company. 0

"Damn it," Gangzi recalled being beaten up and said, "Thugs aren't scary; what's scary is when thugs are educated! We suffered because we lacked education; if we had our own security company, we'd have some face out there—it's a legitimate job too! It's about time I found a proper company job..." 0

I didn't have time to listen to a thug talk about culture and interrupted him: "Do you remember this person's name?" 0

"I only know his underlings call him Boss Wang," Gangzi replied. 0

After releasing the thug Gangzi, Mary quickly found information on this so-called Boss Wang through her computer. His real name was Wang Er Gou, the department manager of the Execution Department at Eagle Security Company; the chairman's name was Hao Zhi. Gangzi only mentioned that Huang Yajie was looking for the company's big boss; further investigation would be needed to determine exactly who that was. 0

At that moment, Captain Jiang returned with someone in tow. We looked over and saw a middle-aged man in his forties with a large belly and thinning hair—he looked rather sleazy. His small eyes darted around suspiciously. 0

Captain Jiang said sternly, "What are you looking at? Do you understand why we brought you here? Look at yourself!" 0

"Judging by appearances in our line of work is the most unwise approach, as a person's looks have nothing to do with their actions. The power of suggestion is significant; for instance, some might say you have a mouse-like face, and right away, they assume you are not a good person. Often, this leads to one committing illegal acts, which shows how fearsome public opinion can be." 0

"Captain Jiang asked, 'What did you mean by the messages you left for Huang Yajie?'" 0

The fat man replied, "What do you think I meant? It's exactly what you understand it to be. That little girl has delicate skin and tender flesh; she must taste delicious. You might not know this, but human flesh is actually quite tasty. Don't look at me like that; many places in our country have a custom of eating dead infants. Don't pretend you don't know." 0

"You've eaten dead infants?" Captain Jiang slammed his hand on the table. 0

"I have," the fat man licked his lips and continued, "Of course I have; that was a long time ago. You should try it; human flesh is the best thing in the world. Once you've tasted it, all other meats seem like chewing wax. But this kind of thing hasn't been available for over a decade; now I can only eat placentas to satisfy my cravings." 0

Captain Jiang was furious, ready to slap him across the face, but the fat man continued, "What's wrong? Are the police going to hit me? Let me tell you, if you dare lay a finger on me, I'll report you! Ha ha, don't act all righteous here. You know what a placenta is called in traditional medicine? It's called Ziheche; it's a great tonic!" 0

"And that dead infant was something I bought from a woman; I didn't steal or rob anyone or commit any illegal acts," the fat man said. "What reason do you have to arrest me? I just bought a dead infant. With all this time you're wasting on me, why aren't you out catching those who traffic living people? By your logic, wouldn't those who buy brides deserve execution too?" 0

Captain Jiang was left speechless by the fat man's retorts. The fat man continued, "Do you know how to write the character for meat? It has two people inside! Those experts who explain it as similar to ribs are talking nonsense. Our ancestors already told us that meat is people and people are meat. We can eat lamb, pork, and beef; why can't we eat human flesh?" 0

"You...you!" Captain Jiang pointed at the fat man, at a loss for words. 0

I pressed my temples; this fat man was indeed quite extreme—proof that one shouldn't judge by appearances. I said, "As long as you don't break the law, we won't interfere with you. We came to ask about Huang Yajie; she went missing two weeks ago and was made into Human Meat Canned Food. Do you know anything about this?" 0

"What? Made into Human Meat Canned Food?" Upon hearing my words, the fat man's expression was not one of shock or fear but rather longing. He said, "If that canned food could be given to me—if I could at least have a taste or even just smell it—that would be something! I do have a lead on this matter, but you need to agree to my conditions!" 0

Captain Jiang cursed, "Assisting the police in solving cases is your duty!" 0

I've heard that line more than once; even Lu Yifa said something similar at first. Why are more and more people making demands of the police lately? The fat man laughed heartily at this and said, "Duty? You know that's just duty! If I refuse to speak, what can you do about it? Lock me up in prison?" 0

After more than an hour of negotiation, the fat man still clung tightly to his demands. It seemed that the taste of human flesh was the most exquisite delicacy in his eyes. I figured that even if he were offered human flesh and then told he would die immediately after eating it, he would still go for it. In the end, Captain Jiang had no choice but to agree to the fat man's terms. 0

Captain Jiang held up an opened can and placed it under the fat man's nose. The fat man inhaled deeply as if he were trying to suck in every bit of packaging along with it. His expression resembled that of a gourmet who had just spotted the most delicious dish in existence. He extended his tongue desperately trying to lick any remnants of human flesh from inside the can. If there hadn't been detectives holding him back nearby, he might have snatched that Human Meat Canned Food right away. 0

Captain Jiang ordered someone to put the can back, and he saw the fat man's tears streaming down his face. He sobbed, "This is the taste, this is the taste! I've been thinking about this flavor for twenty years, and today it has finally come true. Why is the law so cruel? We should be allowed to sell corpses, especially those of infants and virgins; that kind of taste is the best!" 0

"Alright," I said to the fat man. "We have fulfilled your request; it's time for you to keep your promise, isn't it?" 0

The fat man nodded, wiped away his tears, and then said, "Okay, okay. I previously joined a group called Beauty Group; everyone in there shares the same interests as me—people who enjoy eating human flesh. But now, who still has access? Although we are not poor, we are not wealthy either. If I had a billion, I would exchange it all for human meat." 0

He sighed and continued, "In this group, there are those who have eaten human flesh and those who haven't but want to try. There’s one person in our group who is considered an old-timer. According to him, he has been eating human flesh for a long time and has access to it. But he refuses to tell us what that access is; he only enjoys it himself." 0

"Selfish—it's really too selfish," the fat man said angrily. "But every day I see his descriptions, I can't bear to leave the group. One day he said he would share some human meat with us in the future and asked us to leave our addresses. He said soon he would be able to get another batch of human meat." 0

As he spoke, the fat man recited a string of numbers—the group number for Beauty Group. He continued, "From the photos he shows every day, he seems to be a wealthy person. Wealthy people can always get things that we can't access. I believe he can really obtain human flesh; I just don't know if it has anything to do with your case." 0

In the Killer's profile, one important detail was that this person had a factory workshop for processing meat—something only a wealthy person could manage. 0

"Mary, check this group immediately," I instructed her. Then I turned to Captain Jiang and said, "Huang Yajie seemed to have close ties with a boss before she went missing. We have traced it back to the head of the Eagle Wing Execution Department, Wang Er Gou; let's continue investigating along this line." 0

Captain Jiang nodded in agreement. 0
