Meat Livestock, as the name suggests, refers to livestock raised to be consumed by humans. This situation can be divided into two categories, which we can clearly see on the dark web. One category consists of individuals who voluntarily become Meat Livestock, and these individuals fall into two scenarios. The first is those who genuinely desire to be eaten, seeking a form of spiritual fulfillment. The second scenario involves individuals who, under pressure or in urgent need of money, sell themselves.
The next situation described highlights the complete lack of humanity in these individuals, igniting a fire of anger within us upon hearing it. Wealthy individuals buy babies from their mothers as soon as they are born. From that moment on, these infants acquire an identity and a singular life mission: to be consumed.
Humans are products of their environment; from the moment these infants become aware, they are indoctrinated with the idea that they will eventually be eaten. Thus, when the day arrives for them to meet their fate, they feel no sense of wrongdoing. In fact, they may even believe they have fulfilled their life's purpose and feel a sense of joy. These individuals become a delicacy on the tables of the wealthy.
Prior to being eaten, these soon-to-be victims have already drafted wills declaring their voluntary consent, absolving others of legal responsibility. Then, they take their own lives. After death, they are turned into food. While many countries strictly prohibit such practices, in some places, it is legal.
"There are as many types of people in the world as there are thoughts and things you have yet to understand," Young Master Lin sighed and said. "Humans dominate all living things; we eat what flies in the sky, runs on the ground, and swims in the water. Eventually, one grows tired of these options and seeks different experiences—what's the difference between humans and animals?"
Young Master Lin toyed with a glass in his hand before continuing, "There is a well-known philosophical hypothesis called the 'Voluntary Eaten Pig.'"
"Imagine that in the near future, scientists solve the ethical dilemma of eating meat through genetic engineering by creating a talking pig. This pig not only can speak but also feels no pain; more astonishingly, it possesses a strong and peculiar sense of mission: it must be consumed by humans."
"Indeed! Being eaten by humans is its highest honor in life; it would display its most genuine and joyful smile before being slaughtered. If you find it too cruel and choose not to slaughter them, they would feel empty and despairing! In this state, have scientists resolved the ethical dilemma of meat consumption?"
"Using reason and false morality to mask humanity's inherent greed, bloodlust, and madness?" Young Master Lin chuckled. "It's meaningless; among all living beings, humans are the most hypocritical. What makes us different? Look at this document and video; this was sent to me by her."
As he spoke, Young Master Lin opened his computer. I looked at the document detailing how the girl willingly consented to being eaten and that it had nothing to do with anyone else. It bore signatures from foreign lawyers and included a personal signature affirming that she was mentally sound when making this declaration.
When the video played, we saw a young and beautiful girl appear on screen.
She read aloud from the document to validate its authenticity. Then she plunged a small knife into her abdomen, blood spilling everywhere. Yet even then, her face remained adorned with a sweet smile. It seemed that only through the loss of her life could she truly grasp the essence of existence.
We found it impossible to accept this reality; from the very beginning of our investigation into Human Meat Canned Food, we ended up uncovering such a result. Young Master Lin stated, "So as I mentioned earlier, I did not expel you but chose to sit down and talk because I have committed no crime."
"As for those canned goods, yes, I did receive them." Young Master Lin took a sip from his glass before continuing, "As an enthusiast myself, I could never refuse a girl's request. After her death, those involved processed her into Human Meat Canned Food and sent me seventy cans via helicopter drop; clearly her family is not less affluent than mine."
Young Master Lin shrugged and added, "Similarly, I don't know her name; all I know is that she was an Overseas Chinese individual. I don't even know where she lived. In fact, this operation was executed flawlessly; even if you discover that the cans contain human flesh, you will never uncover the identity of the deceased or trace it back to me."
"How could you possibly find out something I couldn't?" Young Master Lin downed his drink and said, "She just wanted to experience the life of an ordinary person before she died. If she hadn't known Huang Yajie or left so many clues in the Ancient City, how could you have followed that trail to find me? Look at me, I've eaten human flesh, but I don't want to be eaten. She has never eaten human flesh, yet she wanted to be consumed."
Knowing the truth left us in a state of shock, exchanging glances with one another, unsure of what to do. We never expected the investigation would lead to this conclusion. A feeling I couldn't quite describe welled up inside me; I would rather believe someone had murdered the Victim and turned them into Human Meat Canned Food than accept this outcome.
Some say that half of a devil can be an angel. The girl had witnessed much darkness on the dark web but still treated Huang Yajie with kindness. Since the establishment of the Special Investigation Team, this was the first time I felt utterly disappointed—desperate to the point of feeling powerless, not even knowing what to do next.
I called the department, and when the director heard my words, he replied calmly, "Then come back. This case is over."
"Leaving?" Young Master Lin extended his hand toward us and said, "There are many things in this world that cannot be changed just because you want to change them. Humans are such creatures; beneath their masks of hypocrisy lies their beastly nature. Roberts once said that the past never dies; it never even truly passes. From the moment humanity formed over a hundred thousand years ago, our genes have determined everything."
"By the way, I still have a few cans of Human Meat Canned Food that I haven't had a chance to eat. Do you want some?" Young Master Lin said with a somewhat mocking smile. "This is from that girl; she wanted more people to taste her flesh. I suppose I'm just helping others enjoy themselves?"
Seeing this, Yan Junde threw a punch directly at Young Master Lin's face, sending him crashing to the ground. The mercenaries around us raised their guns again, aiming at us.
Yan Junde said, "I don't know why, but I just wanted to hit him." In truth, we were all filled with rage and contempt for our own helplessness.
I had wanted to punch him long ago.
Young Master Lin struggled to get up, gesturing for the mercenaries not to fire their weapons, then pointed at Yan Junde and said, "Kid, you're ruthless. I'll remember you. Don't worry; when you get off the plane, you'll find your clothes have been stripped off!"
On our way back home, we traveled in silence.
As we disembarked from the plane, things unfolded exactly as Young Master Lin had predicted—several members from our department were already waiting for Yan Junde at the airport. As soon as Yan Junde stepped off the plane, he was taken away by them. It seemed Young Master Lin's family indeed had considerable influence; everything was arranged within just a few hours.
Even the director came personally to the scene. Looking at Yan Junde's situation, he said, "Why bother? Isn't the case already clear? Since it has nothing to do with Young Master Lin, why stir up trouble? Aren't you just making things harder for yourself? You know how big his family's business is..."
Yan Junde replied, "I just can't stand his attitude. When I threw that punch, I had already made up my mind; if worse comes to worst, I'll quit. What does it matter if I wear this uniform or take it off? Worst case scenario, I'll just go back home!"
"You may not care, but have you thought about the consequences?" the director said. "If you walk away like this, what will happen to the Special Investigation Team? What will happen to your family?"
Hearing the minister's words, I stepped forward and said, "The Special Investigation Team announces its dissolution. Without one member, it can no longer be called the Special Investigation Team. If Yan Junde leaves, then I won't continue either." Before I could finish my sentence, Juan Juan and Mary immediately chimed in, "Neither will we."
"Well, are you all trying to rebel?" The minister, seeing us like this, couldn't help but feel anger rising within him. He scolded, "If it’s dissolved, then it’s dissolved. The Special Investigation Team is not just about you three. From today on, you can all go back to your own homes and do whatever you want. Don’t come back here and embarrass yourselves in front of me."
"As for you," he pointed at Yan Junde, "go back and accept the investigation."
Yan Junde waved at us with a smile. We all knew that Yan Junde's greatest pride in life was being a police officer. Born into a family of law enforcement, his father was one, his mother was one, and so was he. He said he wanted to be a righteous police officer like his father, someone who upholds justice.
But because of this, he might lose the very profession he took pride in.
However, a police officer's honor does not fade simply because they take off their uniform.
"Salute!" I shouted loudly. At the private airport, there were fewer than ten people present. The three of us stood in perfect formation to express our stance. Yan Junde broke free from those holding him back and walked toward us. Those people tried to step forward to restrain him again but were stopped by a slight wave of the minister's hand.
"Salute!" Yan Junde returned the gesture.
Sometimes, we fight not to change the world but to prevent the world from changing us. This is one of my favorite sayings.
