After taking the photo, I carefully examined the traces on the ground. The day before yesterday, it had been drizzling in Tianlan City. Although the rain wasn't heavy, it left the ground damp, especially in this muddy area where any footsteps would leave clear marks. Now, these traces had solidified, making them easy to observe.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the traces varied in size, forming a long line that led directly to the side of the Ferris wheel. Aside from this trail, there were no other signs left by people or animals. Examining the large and small marks more closely revealed that they were made by a single person.
The traces overlapped in some areas, but it was possible to discern that half were footprints while the other half were palm prints. Between these two types of marks was a long furrowed line. Based on these traces, it appeared that someone had crawled on the ground imitating animal movements.
Near the Ferris wheel, there were some white spots on the ground. Although few in number, they stood out sharply against the surrounding yellowish soil. Juan Juan took a closer look and collected a bit of it, saying, "This should be some kind of residue, but there's very little—likely leaked out while crawling."
From these traces, we could infer certain events. Around seven-thirty the night before, Guo Guoqing had taken Roland away from the Prison Island Cafe and onto this secluded path. This new S had given Roland a task: to walk like a dog until he reached beneath the Ferris wheel.
Roland accepted this task; however, when they reached near the Ferris wheel, the brick path turned into a complete dirt road. If someone walked on it, they would undoubtedly leave traces behind. Therefore, Guo Guoqing instructed Roland to crawl beside the Ferris wheel while he observed from a distance.
This raised a question: Was Roland wearing clothes at that time or not? When we examined Roland's body, there was no mud on his feet, legs, or hands. Similarly, his clothes were also clean, indicating that he had either taken a shower or changed clothes.
However, considering that Roland's lower body still bore remnants of bodily fluids from beggars, if he had bathed, it was likely that he would have washed those away as well. In that case, Roland would have failed to complete Zhang Jiawei's task. This suggests that Killer must have changed Roland's clothes; moreover, when his body was discovered, he was not wearing new clothes but rather old ones—indicating that they weren't freshly bought.
Looking at the scene again, if he had removed his clothes entirely, there wouldn't be so little residue left. This further confirmed that Roland must have been wearing clothes. The only garment found on his body was a top with no signs of mud or dirt—this also supported our conclusion.
If his clothes weren't newly purchased, there must have been a place for Roland to change.
With this thought in mind, I immediately pulled out a map and looked at the location where Roland's body was discovered. Upon closer examination, I realized that this dumping site wasn't far from both locations—the Boss's cafe was already on the edge of the city while the body was found in the outskirts; with a vehicle, one could reach there quickly.
"Dezi," I asked him after reviewing the surveillance footage, "how did Guo Guoqing arrive?"
Dezi replied, "He walked here."
The locations were determined by Guo Guoqing: Beggar Gang's headquarters, Prison Island Cafe, and an abandoned park—all near each other along with the final dumping site. This indicated that Guo Guoqing likely planned everything from the beginning and somehow learned about Roland's situation.
Then Guo Guoqing communicated with Roland online regarding certain matters and due to his good looks and charm with women quickly lowered Roland's guard towards this fifteen-year-old boy. Roland was curious about trying something new and thus agreed to meet up with Guo Guoqing.
Prior to this meeting, Guo Guoqing knew that Roland had already undergone training under Zhang Jiawei; he deliberately chose a location close to Beggar Gang's headquarters—the Prison Island Cafe—and persuaded Roland not to rush back to his dormitory but instead spend the night with him.
Under Guo Guoqing's sweet talk, Roland accepted this suggestion. At this point, Guo Guoqing had already proposed his plan to train Roland further. Since Roland came for this purpose initially, he readily agreed. Thus their relationship grew even closer.
Due to crawling in the rain, Roland was soaked and her clothes were dirty. Therefore, Guo Guoqing invited her to spend the night at his home. What happened that night remains unknown to us. The next day, Roland needed to return to Zhang Jiawei because she had a mission to complete.
However, Demon Boy Guo Guoqing did not allow her to go back, though the reasons for this were unclear. That evening, Roland was found dead near the greenhouse. Based on Guo Guoqing's childhood experiences, his parents had a strained relationship, and his mother was unfaithful. Since he was just a child, they often did not hide their actions from him.
Thus, Guo Guoqing grew up in such an environment until one day he picked up a knife and killed both his mother's lover and his father. According to previous analyses by the Special Investigation Team, Guo Guoqing harbored a deep-seated hatred towards women.
On one hand, due to the lack of maternal love, Guo Guoqing desperately tried to play the role of a son in front of various women. Yet, his hatred for his mother led him to develop animosity towards women in general. In other words, in Guo Guoqing's heart, he was both a sadist and a masochist; what ultimately determined which side prevailed was his already twisted young psyche.
Guo Guoqing showed signs of dissociative identity disorder and exhibited strong manic tendencies. When calm, he appeared as a well-behaved and adorable child; however, when he lost control, he transformed into a demon without question.
If this were the case, then it was likely that Guo Guoqing had a place nearby that belonged to him. With this thought in mind, I turned to Dezi and said, "When I get on it later, you start shaking this Ferris wheel!"
Although Dezi didn’t know my intentions, he nodded in agreement. I didn’t explain further and simply climbed aboard. Inside, I noticed it was rusted all over. Dezi exerted all his strength to get the Ferris wheel moving. As it creaked and groaned, I slowly began to rise.
I looked around from the Ferris wheel, hoping to find a location that could validate my thoughts. Just as we reached the highest point of the ride, I suddenly saw a flash of light reflecting off a window directly in front of me. It was around ten o'clock in the morning; despite the light rain, the sun was still shining. That faint glimmer was sunlight reflecting off something.
I felt a surge of excitement and shouted, "That's it!"
Without waiting for the Ferris wheel to stabilize, I jumped out and told everyone, "Roland came here alone at that time; someone was controlling her from afar. If I wasn't mistaken just now, it should be from that building over there at the fifth floor directly opposite the Ferris wheel. We need to check it out!"
Everyone looked puzzled; Mary asked, "Brother Shao, how can you be so sure?"
I pointed at a small frozen mark on the ground below the Ferris wheel and explained, "When she received orders from Guo Guoqing, Roland stood up and pulled open her top to expose her chest. Looking at these footprints here—everywhere else shows crawling marks except for this spot where she stood."
I continued guiding them: "Look at this support beam of the Ferris wheel; there are some clumps of dirt on it while other areas are clean. This must be where Roland grabbed onto it and got dirt stuck on her hand. More importantly, there's a tiny hole here with a small mark above it—look!"
Everyone examined the traces on the ground seriously; after staring for a while, Mary said, "L? What does that mean?"
I replied, "It's an L for left ear on an earbud! And look at this hole—it resembles the shape of an in-ear headphone! Analyzing this together suggests that when Guo Guoqing remotely commanded Roland to stand up, she accidentally dropped her left earbud while holding onto the support beam."
"From how she held onto it with her right hand," I pointed toward the building where I had seen the flash earlier and said, "it indicates she was facing that direction when she stood up!"
"In line with where we saw that flash earlier," I continued. "From that position, one could clearly see people on several streets surrounding this abandoned park along with Roland being controlled by someone else. Given Demon Boy Guo Guoqing's methods, this would be the most satisfying way for him to exert his control."
"Although this is just my guess, it is very likely the truth."
"In that case, let's stop talking and go take a look," Dezi said at that moment.
We nodded and walked towards the building. It was a relatively upscale community, equipped with surveillance cameras. We immediately split up; Mary and Juan Juan went to ask the property management for the surveillance footage, while Dezi and I focused on finding the resident we had seen flashing earlier.
As for Boss, we decided to leave her downstairs. If she wanted to go back, that was up to her. The flash we saw from the Ferris wheel should have come from the seventh floor. Dezi and I opted not to take the elevator and quickly made our way to room 701 on the seventh floor. After knocking on the door, we heard a lazy voice from inside asking, "Who is it?"
We were startled yet pleased at the same time. Although we had never heard Demon Boy Guo Guoqing's voice before, this sounded like someone young. Could it be that Guo Guoqing was inside? I signaled Dezi to be ready to break in, and he nodded in agreement.
I tentatively called out, "Guo Guoqing?"
At that moment, a cheerful voice responded from within, "It's me! Just wait a moment while I open the door."
