Chapter 15: Just Unable to Do It
At this moment, Lian Yun felt an inexplicable discomfort in his heart, not knowing exactly where it stemmed from. He wanted to cry but couldn't bring himself to do so. In the end, he could only lean gently against Grandma's back like a bewildered child.
"Foolish child!" Grandma scolded softly, revealing a hint of heartache.
Lian Yun did not respond; he simply remained quietly resting behind Grandma, which was a statement in itself—steadfast and unwavering.
The scene froze in time, while moments slowly flowed by.
One hour, two hours, half a day, from dawn until dusk.
Grandma remained motionless, and Lian Yun showed no special actions because he had actually fallen asleep.
As dusk approached, Lian Yun suddenly jolted awake, hurriedly massaging Grandma's shoulders while complaining, "Why didn't you wake me up, Grandma?"
"Even on my back, you can't let your guard down completely?" Grandma's voice was filled with both affection and sorrow.
The reason her grandson fell asleep as soon as he leaned against her was that he was simply too exhausted.
Three years of relentless effort without a moment's rest was one thing; not daring to relax even for a moment was another.
Living in the Lian Family, the place that had caused his parents' deaths, had made her grandson tread on thin ice for three years, constantly on edge and never daring to be careless or let his guard down.
Beneath that calm gaze lay a weariness that even Grandma could not describe.
It was no wonder her grandson fell asleep so quickly against her. Although he slept relatively soundly, his sudden awakening indicated that he still felt a sense of crisis.
If they were outdoors, Grandma would praise Lian Yun's vigilance. But at home, on her back, why couldn't he completely let down his guard? To Grandma, her grandson seemed like an injured deer, feeling that there was not a single safe place in the entire world.
Or perhaps, if even Grandma couldn't make Lian Yun feel completely at ease, then who in this world could provide him with a sense of safety?
It seemed somewhat obvious.
After all, no matter how talented or strong Lian Yun was, he was only thirteen three years ago when he suffered the betrayal of the entire Demon Clan, the alliance, and even his own family. It was akin to being rejected by the whole world.
Though she understood, Grandma still couldn't accept it. After all, her grandson was still just a boy under sixteen.
In response to Grandma's words, Lian Yun had no reply and could only choose silence. It wasn't that he harbored any distrust towards her; he simply couldn't let go of the vigilance in his heart!
One must understand that the Lin family members would not hesitate to harm Lian Yun without a second thought.
Once, Lianjiang was the same, which was why Lian Yun had given him a chance. But Lian Yun was not foolish; he could endure once but could not accept a second betrayal.
Thus came the severing of ties.
However, compared to Lianjiang, Grandma was somewhat different. Even if Lian Yun knew he had become completely useless, he would not face disdain from this grandmother.
So today, it wasn't that he didn't want to lower his guard; he simply found it impossible to do so.
After a moment of silence, feeling the atmosphere grow heavy and unable to find a new topic, Lian Yun said, "Grandma, Second Uncle wants to test my martial skills."
"Go ahead!"
Lian Yun stood up, bowed respectfully, and left the Pavilion without another word as he exited the courtyard.
At the door, Master Pang smiled gently upon seeing Lian Yun and said, "It's been a long time since I've heard Lord's laughter. The last time was when I first met Young Master Yun!"
Lian Yun felt a stir within him, offering a gentle smile as he respectfully bowed and sincerely asked, "May I ask, Master Pang, in today's world, is there any object that has a bloodline connection? One that is harmless to those with a blood relation, but would bring disaster to those without?"
He had always struggled to fully comprehend the box transformed by the Yin-Yang Stage, which is why he sought the insight of the well-informed Master Pang.
Although Lian Yun's inquiry was somewhat indirect, if he could obtain an answer, it might help him understand the box within himself.
However, Master Pang remained silent for a long while before shaking his head and saying, "In my observations of modern technological literature, I recall a concept called Gene Virus. This virus can indeed harm those who share a blood relation with the infected individual. As for the opposite relationship you mentioned, Young Master Yun, I have not heard of such a thing."
Lian Yun had also noted that there were instances where someone's genes were used to create a Gene Virus. Those related by blood to the infected would often face swift death if exposed to such a virus, making rescue nearly impossible.
However, this was only true for those without spiritual power; for Armed Ghost Hunters, most viruses in the world were not much of a concern!
Moreover, that virus was merely theoretical.
Not feeling discouraged by the lack of answers, Lian Yun bowed again to Master Pang in gratitude before taking his leave.
He then headed directly to the courtyard where his Second Uncle resided.
On his way there, he encountered his Three Aunts and was taken aback to see each of them holding several Cross-dressing Photos. Lian Yun felt an overwhelming urge to bang his head against a wall.
This would undoubtedly be a stain on his life, something that could be used to mock him at any time or place. Yet when he thought of the Amnesiac Girl, he found it somewhat acceptable.
Upon seeing Lian Yun, his Three Aunts discreetly tucked away the photos. However, their knowing smiles made him feel quite uncomfortable.
With their makeup skills, they could likely make Lian Yun look even more beautiful; he could see the eagerness in their eyes.
But Aunt Qin from the esteemed Qin Family broke the silence first and asked with dignified grace, "So, did your mother give you any special instructions for Yun'er?"
The so-called Special Instructions are essentially some mandatory requirements.
Lian Yun bowed and expressed gratitude for Three Aunts' concern, then shook his head.
"Hehe, Yun'er~~"
"Three Aunts, I have something to discuss with Second Uncle~~" Before the words were fully out, Lian Yun had already vanished. The speed at which he left made the three women exchange glances, a mix of shock, regret, and amusement.
Lian Yun dashed into Lin's Second Master's courtyard and then burst through a side door into an underground space nearly a hundred meters long and fifty meters high.
This Training Room, while vast, was sparsely equipped.
In one corner, occupying about thirty square meters, were the Plum Blossom Poles, where Lin Nan was practicing his steps. Nearby was the expansive Forest of Blades and Spears, filled with countless hanging swords and knives above, while spears occasionally shot up from the ground. It was deserted, but two ghostly figures—a cow and a sheep—lingered nearby.
There was also a sandy area and a Shallow Pool, both unoccupied. Taking up nearly half the space was a rugged Rockery, where Lin Nan and Lin Xi were chasing each other at lightning speed.
Although some areas were obscured, Lian Yun knew that this enormous Training Room had four doors connecting it to Lin's Three Uncles and Lin Beiyan's Mansion.
