Chapter 11: Obvious Conspiracy
Lian Yun and Eastern Sword did not need to hone their skills in the future, but a few years later, when both had reached adulthood, even if they could travel together, it would no longer be just "playing."
This was, after all, their first and last opportunity to "play" together.
Lian Yun initially wanted to refuse, not out of stubbornness, but because he did not want Eastern Sword to face unnecessary dangers. However, seeing Eastern Sword's determination to follow him regardless of his objections, Lian Yun could only nod helplessly.
Brother Qing was suddenly filled with conflict. "Young Master Yun, Sword One, you two!"
"A swordsman must forge ahead bravely!"
"Then we will accompany you!"
"No!" Lian Yun immediately opposed and explained, "Forging ahead does not mean courting death. Not long ago, I learned the Sword Control Technique from Uncle Yi. I am now just a step away from reaching the Intermediate Realm. I believe Eastern Sword's realm is at least equal to mine or even higher. Thus, even when facing a Monarch, we might have a slim chance of escaping! This is the foundation for our challenge!"
"If you are seeking the Blood Spirit Fruit, I won't oppose you. But if you are indifferent to the Blood Spirit Fruit, then you should leave Fengdu!"
Although Brother Qing was shocked by Lian Yun's mastery of the Sword Control Technique, he also understood that if they followed along and a major crisis arose, they would not only be unable to help but would instead drag Lian Yun and Eastern Sword down!
However, seeing that Brother Qing and the others were no longer insisting on following them, Lian Yun suddenly blushed slightly and said, "Um! Please give me your spirit liquid and concentrated nutrient tablets!"
He truly had no resources left for replenishment.
Although without encountering them, Lian Yun would not have been killed by a few Dragonfly Demons, it seemed unlikely that he could obtain more than twenty Blood Spirit Fruits in the upcoming competition.
However, since they had fortuitously met, Lian Yun did not want to miss this opportunity to gather resources.
Regarding Lian Yun's request, Brother Qing not only did not mock him but instead nodded solemnly.
In his view, if Lian Yun insisted on saving face and acted tough, he truly wouldn’t dare to let Eastern Sword accompany him. Only by knowing when to advance and retreat could he feel somewhat at ease allowing Eastern Sword to follow Lian Yun into danger.
Although his original intention was for Eastern Sword not to take risks, he had never seen Eastern Sword interact so casually with others. Perhaps he had never considered that Eastern Sword could communicate like a normal person.
Thus, he genuinely did not want to go against Eastern Sword's wishes.
Consequently, Ninety-Nine People gave Lian Yun their best concentrated nutrient tablets.
After all, their statuses were different. Although the Eastern Family was the strongest family in Huaxia, they could not provide all the best resources to Ninety-Nine People, who were not even at the king level.
For instance, having one or two of the best concentrated nutrient tablets for life-saving purposes was already a special benefit that other families did not possess.
Moreover, even if each of Ninety-Nine People only gave Lian Yun one tablet, it would still be sufficient. Not to mention there were also some spiritual liquids available.
However, Lian Yun did not hold back; he accepted as many as Ninety-Nine People offered until his belt could no longer hold any more. Then he quickly moved north with Eastern Sword One.
Lian Yun did not ask Brother Qing and the others for help carrying the wings on his back because they inherently had a certain anti-gravity effect. If left unrestrained, they would float several meters high in the air.
Thus, carrying them not only did not increase Lian Yun's burden but actually lightened it considerably.
Nevertheless, despite his quick pace, his steps still appeared somewhat heavy.
Curious, Eastern Sword asked, "How heavy is the sword?"
"Immeasurable!" Lian Yun replied with a knowing smile.
It was just less than half a month ago that Lian Yun noticed a change in Wu Tai. As his own cultivation level increased, the sword seemed to grow heavier. At first, Lian Yun thought it was the awakening of the Taiwu Sword Spirit, but it turned out that it had not manifested. Thus, Lian Yun concluded that although the Taiwu Sword Spirit had not awakened, it had regained some of its instincts.
Now, due to his physical strength not being fully restored, the weight of Wu Tai felt burdensome, especially since the wings on his back had alleviated some of his body weight. This made Lian Yun's steps feel heavy. However, this was a valuable training experience.
In this way, its weight became unquantifiable.
"What a fine sword!" Eastern Sword exclaimed, feeling somewhat amazed yet succinct in his expression, as if this was his true nature.
Lian Yun nodded and said no more. The two continued forward at an extraordinary pace, faster than an ordinary Intermediate Monarch.
However, their movements were quite different; Lian Yun moved steadily with each step leaving a mark, while Eastern Sword glided effortlessly like a swallow over snow.
Though Eastern Sword appeared more graceful and carefree, Lian Yun gave off a more grounded impression.
Before long, they approached the Northern District and saw about ten teams—nearly two thousand people—dejectedly making their way out. It seemed they were ready to give up on the Blood Spirit Fruit.
Among those two thousand people, many were shocked by the appearance of Lian Yun and Eastern Sword and their speed. Yet they paid little attention and continued to leave. Only one or two teams' leaders paused for a moment before turning their groups around, seemingly intending to take advantage of the chaos.
Climbing up a prominent Sword Mountain, Lian Yun first noticed several crowded areas nearby. However, four or five hundred teams—almost ten thousand people—were eerily silent.
Looking further down, even Lian Yun and Eastern Sword could not help but feel a sense of gravity in their expressions.
Ahead lay a smooth slope, and behind it stood a tree less than a meter tall, adorned with hundreds of fruits. Most of them were blood-red, while about ten were bright red and several others were pink.
However, behind this tree, which stood under a meter high, was a chaotic mass of thousands of Evil Spirits, their various forms scattered haphazardly.
What truly drew attention, though, was the army of tens of thousands of Evil Spirits above them.
There were approximately three hundred butterflies, three hundred dragonflies, three hundred cicadas, and at the center, a relatively larger blood-red mosquito.
Despite the fact that these flying Evil Spirits numbered only one thousand, they posed a far greater threat to humanity than the tens of thousands of other Evil Spirits.
First were the butterflies, whose wings scattered toxic dust; next, the cries of the Evil Spirit cicadas could disorient and confuse anyone who heard them. Finally, the dragonflies would strike. With these nine hundred flying Evil Spirits combined, they seemed capable of annihilating ten thousand humans.
As for the one hundred Blood Mosquitoes at the center, they were even more terrifying.
The mouthparts of the Blood Mosquitoes were extremely fearsome. Anyone who got too close would find themselves reduced to nothing but bones in an instant if they lacked sufficient strength. The Blood Mosquitoes did not merely suck blood; they consumed human flesh as well.
The syringe used to create Nutrient Extractors was fashioned from the mouthparts of the Blood Mosquitoes.
