Chapter 14: Despicable
Lian Yun used the Sword Control Technique to reach the edge of the spectator area. After glancing at the competition list, he was taken aback. He knew the rules of the Alliance Tournament, but he was surprised to see an extra name on the list, and that he was still included in the competition.
Suddenly, he recalled that he had been given a bye in the first three rounds and understood the reason behind it.
This made Lian Yun sneer coldly.
He had initially thought about letting the Alliance High Command off the hook, but now that they had brought this upon themselves, he wouldn’t hold back any longer.
Thus, Lian Yun decided not to rush to Lin Clan's location but instead quietly watched the matches in the Arena.
Although Lian Yun was quick, by now, the fourth round had reached its penultimate match. Coincidentally, it was Lin Nan's battle, and his opponent was someone Lian Yun recognized.
Xizi, Ximen Bay. A man who was fairly handsome but had a somewhat malicious glint in his eyes.
He remembered that during the selection of the Four Great Sons, Lin Nan's strength was slightly inferior to Xizi's. However, seeing Lin Nan currently holding the upper hand made Lian Yun nod in satisfaction. He could tell that this wasn’t even Lin Nan’s full strength.
The two seemed to have been fighting for a while when Lin Nan seized an opportunity and sent Ximen Bay flying with a single strike. Then he grinned and said, “I win!”
To everyone’s surprise, he turned around and prepared to leave the Arena. At this sight, Lian Yun frowned in dissatisfaction.
Suddenly, Ximen Bay, who had fallen to the ground, flashed a cruel smile. He then lunged forward from his position on the ground and almost instantly closed the distance to Lin Nan.
Lin Nan had decent perception; however, despite hastily turning around and raising Chasing Clouds across his chest, he was still struck by Ximen Bay’s sword and sent flying.
In mid-air, Lin Nan spat out a mouthful of blood but managed to twist his body forcefully and barely landed on his feet, staggering back until he stopped at the edge of the Arena.
Lin Nan looked up, filled with rage, and shouted, “Despicable!”
"Hey, all's fair in war; blame yourself for being careless." Ximen Bay smirked cruelly as he moved closer to Lin Nan, showing no intention of giving him a moment to breathe.
However, despite his worsening injuries, Lin Nan forcefully sidestepped to evade Ximen Bay's attack. Instead of retreating, he closed in and engaged in close combat with Ximen Bay.
Lian Yun couldn't help but feel a bit of admiration for Lin Nan's reaction. If Lin Nan had continued to evade, not only would his injuries worsen, but it would also bolster Ximen Bay's confidence. In essence, if Lin Nan kept running away, he would be drawing closer to defeat.
Only by engaging in close combat did he stand a chance of victory.
Yet Ximen Bay was so treacherous that Lian Yun worried Lin Nan might suffer greatly.
Fortunately, Lin Nan was not foolish; he simply hadn't anticipated that Ximen Bay would resort to such despicable tactics in this situation, disregarding his own reputation.
Lin Nan feigned a weakness due to his injuries, waiting for Ximen Bay to seize the opportunity and attack. Just as Ximen Bay thought he had found an opening, Lin Nan swiftly turned and thrust his sword into Ximen Bay's shoulder, sending him flying.
This time, Lin Nan dared not let his guard down and pursue the attack. However, the fallen Ximen Bay quickly shouted, "I concede."
At this point, Lian Yun breathed a sigh of relief. Although Lin Nan still felt a surge of anger, he sheathed his sword. Yet Ximen Bay revealed his sinister side once more and spat out, "Not a chance!"
Ximen Bay sprang up and lunged at Lin Nan with his sword aimed directly at his face.
Lin Nan was instantly enraged. His half-drawn Chasing Clouds seemed to unsheathe itself on its own and swiftly deflected Ximen Bay's sword before aiming straight for his throat.
Fury boiled within him against such a shameless person; he felt murderous intent rising.
Meanwhile, in the stands of the alliance's high-ranking officials, a cup appeared before Ximen Bay at an untraceable speed. If left unchecked, it would strike Lin Nan squarely in the face.
Fortunately, a Black Greatsword materialized in front of Lin Nan. Even so, the cup still collided with the Black Greatsword, sending it crashing into Lin Nan.
Although Lin Nan was sent flying, the Black Greatsword had absorbed a significant portion of the force. As a result, while Lin Nan's injuries were slightly worsened, they were not severe.
During Lin Nan's flight, a figure in black suddenly appeared behind him, steadying him and allowing him to land safely. With his other hand, the figure grasped the Black Greatsword, and in the next moment, he vanished from sight.
However, a terrifying Sword Intent emanated from the Arena, causing more than half of the spectators in the stands to shudder violently, their clothes drenched in sweat.
"You dare, you beast~~"
A roar erupted from one of the stands on the Alliance Platform as a figure rushed forward. Yet, he arrived quickly and departed even faster, almost disappearing in an instant.
As he advanced, three imposing figures appeared before him. The one in the middle spoke gently, "Soon, the Lin Clan will come to the Ximen Family to demand an explanation."
The mention of the Lin Clan instead of just Lin Nan indicated that a conflict between the two powerful families was imminent. This polite statement sent chills down the spines of many spectators, including several Monarchs who felt a sense of foreboding.
Back in the Arena, the figure in black brushed past Ximen Bay. In the next moment, he returned to Lin Nan's side.
"Brother?" Lin Nan exclaimed joyfully, his eyes red; perhaps he had feared for Lian Yun's safety.
Though Lian Yun felt a bit touched, he still playfully tapped Lin Nan on the head. "I'll scold you later."
He then led Lin Nan toward the stand where the Lin Family was seated.
In just a turn of his body, Lian Yun's eyes widened slightly before he instantly reached the stand. He tossed Lin Nan aside and hurried to a large chair at the center of the stand. There, he began to massage the shoulders of the person seated there, smiling apologetically. "Grandma, why are you out here?"
"Is that not allowed?"
"It is! It is! You should definitely go out more often."
Grandma stepped out, but Lian Yun's mind was racing with thoughts.
However, upon hearing the excitement in Lian Yun's voice, Grandma shook her head slightly, feeling a bit disappointed.
This made Lian Yun feel uneasy, but he quickly rummaged through his waist and pulled out a purple bottle, handing it over without saying a word.
Grandma hurriedly accepted it, cherishing it as she tucked it into her embrace. Only then did a genuine smile appear on her face as she said, "You are thoughtful!"
"Hehe! It's the least I could do."
At that moment, Lin's Three Uncles returned, standing behind Grandma, flanking Lian Yun on both sides.
Lin Dong nodded in satisfaction and said, "It's good that you're back." He then turned his gaze to the Arena, where Ximen Bay stood motionless.
In the blink of an eye, a middle-aged man with a bleeding mouth appeared beside Ximen Bay.
Lin's Three Uncles used to be part of the Alliance High Command, so Lian Yun, who often stayed at the Lin family home, was somewhat familiar with the personnel from the Alliance High Command.
He recognized the middle-aged man as Ximen Qianlie, an old-school Monarch.
