Chapter 17: Team Allocation
After Lian Yun left, Joseph and his companions immediately set off. However, one of the men beside Joseph, a Tall Man, looked puzzled and said, "Joseph, I admit Mr. White is incredibly powerful, but do you really trust him that much?"
"I'm not trusting Mr. White; I'm trusting the people around him," Joseph replied.
"What do you mean by that?" another asked.
"If we didn't know each other from the start, what kind of person would make you risk your lives to follow them?" Joseph smiled mysteriously and then sighed.
"Naturally, someone with exceptional strength, limitless potential, and great credibility... you mean Mr. White," the Tall Man said in surprise.
The third man added, "But you didn't ask Mr. White what he plans to do with us, nor how we will be allocated."
"What we're going to do is naturally to hunt Grizzly Bears. As for how we will do it, you'll find out in due time. Regarding the allocation..."
"You just need to know that as long as we don't do anything to offend Mr. White, he won't treat us unfairly."
Lian Yun was unaware of the conversation between Joseph and his companions. Even if he knew, he wouldn't care because all he needed was to be assured that Joseph had no ill intentions toward him.
After waiting for a while and receiving two scrolls from Joseph, they headed north.
On the way, Lian Yun explained the battle location and methods to Joseph and his companions. Then, amidst their shock and excitement, they arrived at the outskirts of a forest ten miles away. Without hesitation, they rushed into the valley and climbed up into the trees.
At this point, Lian Yun said, "Let me take the Gray Spirit Coin first. After I sign contracts with Shihai Yong and Bai Yuancheng, you can collect according to the numbers. If you're worried, you can keep the Black Spirit Coin for now."
Mr. White smiled and said, "If we were truly worried, how could we dare to follow Mr. White into such a desolate wilderness?"
Lian Yun spoke little, but her presence was commanding.
Although the details had already been introduced, it was still Lian Yun who would take the first turn in battle, serving as a reference for Joseph and the others. However, the personnel configuration would naturally change.
Lian Yun brought along Tian Shou, while Zhao Jinlong, Zhao Jinhui, and Chen Er Gou were sent into the fray.
Zhao Jinlong and Zhao Jinhui could hold one side on their own, so Lian Yun took Chen Er Gou to defend another side, leaving the last third of the area to Tian Shou.
There was no need for Lian Yun to worry about Zhao Jinlong and Zhao Jinhui, as they could handle themselves. The real concern for her was undoubtedly Chen Er Gou.
Though Chen Er Gou was a High-Level Monarch, he still fell short compared to the Peak of Kings' Grizzly Bear. However, while Grizzly Bear had high attack power, its mobility was lacking, making it less of a lethal threat—thus a suitable training target for Chen Er Gou.
The only issue was that Chen Er Gou could be reckless and unrestrained.
To Lian Yun's surprise, though, Chen Er Gou, who stood beside her, was unusually calm.
Perhaps in his heart, nothing mattered more than ensuring Lian Yun's safety. Although he yearned for combat prowess, he feared that his recklessness might 'harm' her.
Lian Yun chose not to remind him of this; instead, she welcomed his state of mind. She allowed him to act freely, only stepping in to save him when he faced a fatal attack.
However, having Chen Er Gou by her side meant she couldn't fully unleash her abilities during battle. Yet, this did not bother Lian Yun at all.
But while she remained unconcerned, others were acutely aware of the situation—namely, Shihai Yong and Bai Yuancheng.
They had no desire to be subservient, but witnessing how attentively Lian Yun cared for Chen Er Gou, they began to feel that being under her command might not be servitude at all; instead, it felt like gaining a family member or an elder figure.
They could see at a glance the true nature of Chen Er Gou. In their eyes, with Lian Yun's resources, identity, and status, he could easily exchange for a more capable and powerful Ghost Slave. There was no need for an ordinary Ghost Slave like Chen Er Gou, who lacked any real combat ability.
However, Lian Yun not only took Chen Er Gou in but also cared for him deeply.
At this moment, Shihai Yong and Bai Yuancheng felt a hint of envy towards Chen Er Gou.
Joseph and his companions shared similar thoughts, but they also considered another point: Mr. Baiyun's attentiveness to such an ordinary Ghost Slave indicated that he was not someone who judged others solely by appearances. Furthermore, it showed that as long as one was a friend or part of his circle, he would extend his care.
In that moment, Joseph felt that his instincts were spot on. The other two finally understood Joseph's earlier remark: as long as they did not offend Mr. Baiyun, he would not treat them poorly.
Meanwhile, although Tian Shou's overall attack power seemed low, their combat performance was impeccable. Lian Yun had to hold back to take care of Chen Er Gou, but Tian Shou's side was able to eliminate enemies quickly, alleviating some pressure from Lian Yun.
When the twenty minutes were up, Lian Yun led his team to retreat, allowing Joseph and his companions to take the stage.
Joseph summoned a Ghost Slave wielding a shield and spear, known as Tall Man, while another dark-eyed man summoned two Ghost Slaves.
In those twenty minutes, they effortlessly dispatched hundreds of Grizzly Bears every minute.
In the Third Round, Song Hansong took the stage. Lian Yun assigned Yang Zai Xing to lead Big Head, Sword Mountain, and Three Spirits into battle.
This time the arrangement was somewhat unique; Yang Zai Xing held one side alone while Song Hansong took another side with Big Head, Sword Mountain, and Three Spirits commanding five Ghost Slaves on their end.
To be honest, when Yang Zai Xing appeared before everyone’s eyes, not just Joseph and his companions but even Tian Shou, Song Hansong, Shihai Yong, and Bai Yuancheng felt an overwhelming shock.
Then they all understood that this was the purpose behind Lian Yun signing a contract with Joseph.
As Joseph and the others were filled with astonishment, they also felt a sense of honor. They understood that this was Lian Yun's trump card, and Lian Yun allowed them to witness that the situation did not involve killing or silencing them, which was a sign of trust.
They felt privileged to have gained Mr. Baiyun's trust.
After three rounds, Lian Yun made some adjustments.
Tian Shou, Song Hansong, Shihai Yong, and Yang Zai Xing formed one group. Lian Yun took Zhao Jinlong, Zhao Jinhui, Sword Mountain, Big Head, Three Spirits, and Chen Er Gou. Joseph and his two companions remained unchanged in their group.
Shihai Yong and Bai Yuancheng found it the easiest; one stood at the position where the Grizzly Bear would attack, while the other randomly joined the battle, stepping in wherever someone was about to be injured or needed recovery.
This way, all three groups maximized their efficiency in taking down the Grizzly Bear.
At the same time, Lian Yun had the leisure to guide Three Spirits and Sword Mountain in their combat techniques.
After several rounds of fighting, although the battles were intense, everyone managed to cope reasonably well. However, Joseph and his companions, along with Tian Shou and Song Hansong, still felt a sense of shock.
They rotated through Ghost Slaves for combat, but Lian Yun's Ghost Slaves were always these same ones. This indicated that Lian Yun's Ghost Slaves recovered quickly—so quickly that it was almost unimaginable for them.
