Chapter 187: Not a Liu, but a Lan
Interestingly, over the past two months, Lian Yun and all of his Ghost Slaves had engaged in endless slaughter without obtaining a single piece of Soul Material.
Reflecting on it, the vendor's Soul Material must have been unique to the novice village; he likely received some kind of hint that gave him the courage to sell it, rather than exaggerating its value to raise the price.
However, this leaves one wondering whether that piece of Soul Material had any special effects at all.
In the past, Lian Yun might not have cared much about that Soul Material, but now he felt a twinge of regret, believing that the only Soul Material could very well possess unique properties or effects.
Despite this regret, Lian Yun did not feel any real sorrow; he simply wondered if Joseph had considered this point as well.
Over the course of two months, nearly all the newcomers who had arrived at the novice village with Lian Yun had left.
Now, having changed his mask and adjusted his attire, Lian Yun was hardly recognizable to anyone.
Even so, it seemed that among the previous batch of individuals from Huaxia, whether intentionally or indifferently, almost no one had informed the later newcomers about Lian Yun's identity.
Otherwise, how could someone who occupied several mountains and earned hundreds of thousands of Gray Spirit Coins daily remain unknown in the novice village?
Nevertheless, in order to complete Tailor Liu's task as soon as possible, Lian Yun refrained from wandering around the novice village.
Moreover, although Lian Yun had not interacted much with Ma Wenlong, Song Hansong, and Tian Shou, he was still aware of their situations.
First and foremost, they had begun to expand their forces.
The newcomers from Thirty-One Beginner Village were actually considered the backbone once they reached Famous City. It should be noted that beneath Thirty-One Beginner Village were over thirty other novice villages where people's realms and strengths were relatively lower. Thus, upon arriving in Famous City, they would naturally have to struggle for survival.
In contrast, while the newcomers from Thirty-One Beginner Village appeared to be quite "hard up," they would actually attain higher status and standing once they reached Famous City.
However, the three individuals only sought quality over quantity when recruiting members, which is why they limited their numbers to around one hundred. Those who passed through rigorous selection and several tests were recognized by the trio. In the future, within the Famous City, these individuals would become elite members of their faction.
Of course, once they reached the Famous City, it was likely that some elites would be lost. To minimize this loss, there were one or two tests related to Lian Yun's identity among the trio's assessments. Only those who passed could sign a special confidentiality agreement to be truly accepted and provided with resource support.
As for the current novice village, the trio's hundred-member faction was not the strongest, but it was certainly not weak enough for anyone to dare provoke them. Thus, aside from occasionally sending some Spirit Coin resources to Ma Wenlong, Lian Yun did not concern himself much with others.
With a month left, Lian Yun planned to engage in about ten battles and then use the remaining time for a second attempt at breaking through.
However, one afternoon, he suddenly heard a sharp and loud roar coming from the direction of the novice village. Although he did not see it, Lian Yun inexplicably felt certain that it was Tailor Liu's voice.
Yet Lian Yun still felt somewhat puzzled.
Since receiving Tailor Liu's commission, it had been less than fifty hours. Even considering his previous gains, Lian Yun had only handed over at most thirty million Gray Spirit Coins to Tailor Liu.
How could others submit as much as seventy million?
It wasn't that Lian Yun underestimated the other villagers; rather, he believed that the total output of Gray Spirit Coins in the entire novice village wouldn't amount to that much.
For instance, Lian Yun himself occupied several of the main Gray Spirit Coin production areas. Even if others were powerful, they could not collectively produce that many.
In reality, what Ma Wenlong had been doing was something Lian Yun had not considered.
That was purchasing backpacks with Black Spirit Coins and then exchanging them for Gray Spirit Coins.
In Thirty-One Beginner Village, even though many people were not particularly talented, they were all First-Class Monarchs. Among them were numerous individuals with exceptional attack skills and martial arts prowess.
Many of them might have fewer opportunities to obtain Gray Spirit Coins, but Black Spirit Coins came in by the hundreds or thousands every minute. Thus, they needed backpacks that could reduce weight by tenfold even more.
The reason Tailor Liu had only recently been freed was largely due to many individuals preferring to work harder rather than waste resources. Additionally, many were hoping to obtain batches of Spirit Coins from refreshing novice villagers to minimize personal losses as much as possible.
However, no matter what, Tailor Liu's liberation was a matter settled for Lian Yun.
Tailor Liu's release also meant that Lian Yun had repaid a favor. Initially, Lian Yun did not wish to have further contact with Tailor Liu, but from the roar he sensed an overwhelming aura of release, along with a hint of summons.
Considering that she was a Monarch, perhaps there were some unknown pieces of information to be gained. Lian Yun decided to return to the Beginner Village.
Before heading back, Lian Yun took a trip through the forests of the Man-Eating Flowers, Tiger Pack, and the Wolf Pack to retrieve all the Ghost Slaves.
After all, they had been engaged in almost non-stop battles for over a month, and it was about time they got some rest.
Now, Thirty-One Beginner Village was nearly overcrowded. However, upon Lian Yun's return, he noticed many people appeared confused and shocked, followed by a sense of yearning.
A yearning for the Monarch's favor.
As a result, many were wandering around the village in search of the Monarch's presence, completely oblivious to Lian Yun's arrival as a 'stranger.'
Of course, Ma Wendong, Song Hansong, and Tian Shou were exceptions.
Yet they did not approach Lian Yun; instead, upon meeting his gaze, they turned and walked away.
Thus, Lian Yun followed the three into a residence and soon encountered Tailor Liu.
She was a woman in her mid-thirties, strikingly beautiful and captivating. Dressed in Tailor Liu's garments, her eyes reflected suffering yet bore a smile that conveyed complexity of thought.
Nevertheless, Lian Yun stepped forward and bowed slightly. "Congratulations on your liberation, Senior Liu."
"After being trapped for over ten years in a living hell, what is there to congratulate? And I do not bear the surname Liu; it is Lan," she replied with an icy tone, domineering and quite rude.
Lian Yun found himself at a loss for words, unsure how to respond.
However, the woman suddenly softened her tone, though she still spoke somewhat coldly, "Are you really planning to stay in the novice village for three months?"
"I do indeed plan to do so."
"Hmph~~ Foolish!"
Lian Yun understood her meaning but found it difficult to explain, so he simply smiled without rebutting.
The woman continued, "In just over ten days, it will be the New Year. During the New Year, special Chaos Beasts will appear in Yin Yang City and the Twelve Cities. Defeating them will reward you with a treasure box, which can contain various items—some ordinary, some precious—all depending on one's luck."
"This is a rare opportunity; how can you afford to miss it?"
"Thank you for the reminder, Senior Lan." Lian Yun bowed in gratitude. He could only respond this way; otherwise, he wouldn't even have known about this event and would have missed out entirely.
Moreover, since even the Monarch was very interested in the treasure boxes, it was likely that the chances of obtaining valuable items were not low. Clearly, many of the items that could be obtained were things that the Monarch greatly valued.
Thus, Lian Yun felt that he truly could not afford to miss this opportunity.
