Chapter 189: Perfect Clearance
Because Lian Yun received information from Ma Wenlong, there were two ways to leave the novice village. One was to directly find the Old Village Chief and 'teleport' to the target Famous City. The other was to take on a challenge; by completing the challenge in Famous City, one could earn some special rewards, such as certain privileges and a Private Residence.
What Lian Yun cared about most was the Private Residence in Famous City. According to the promotional information, the Private Residence in Famous City was a place that even Monarchs could not infringe upon, making it an absolutely safe haven.
However, residences in Famous City were not something just anyone could own, nor could they be purchased with money alone. One needed a certain status to have the right to buy one.
Lian Yun thought that if residences in Famous City were easily obtainable, then there would probably be none left for others to buy.
For Lian Yun, obtaining a Private Residence would serve multiple purposes: it could be used as a storage space, it would provide a secure place for cultivation, and it would offer Ma Wenlong and others a safe haven where they could feel at ease.
However, considering how rare such residences were, the challenge might not be simple. Therefore, after recovering his spirit, Lian Yun absorbed spiritual energy to fill his Yin-Yang Stage and deliberately absorbed twenty Diamond Spirit Coins as a precaution. If he couldn't use them himself, he could let any Ghost Slaves in need absorb them.
With all preparations complete, he went to where the Old Village Chief was and said, "Please let me leave the novice village."
"Choose to enter Famous City; will you teleport or take on the challenge?"
"Choose Xianyang City; I will take on the challenge."
"Choosing the challenge: Easy difficulty grants a third-tier City Resident Status as a reward; Normal difficulty grants a second-tier City Resident Status and a Toilet; Hard difficulty grants a second-tier City Resident Status and a Courtyard."
No matter how small the Courtyard was, its area would likely be much larger than that of a Toilet. Naturally, Lian Yun chose the hard difficulty.
As Lian Yun made his choice, a solemn and heavy stone door rose beside the Old Village Chief.
Once, Lian Yun knew what to do, but still bowed respectfully to the Old Village Chief before pushing the door open.
Although the Old Village Chief's words were very formal, Lian Yun couldn't shake off the feeling of an unspoken grievance that seemed to linger in the air.
However, not knowing the conditions for his relief, Lian Yun felt powerless despite his intentions, and could only express his apologies through a bow.
Upon entering, Lian Yun found himself in a massive circular platform resembling an arena. In the center stood a stone pillar intricately carved with five dragon patterns.
At the same time, he heard a mission prompt.
"Protect the Five Dragon Pillar. If the pillar sustains over twenty percent damage after five waves of attacks, the challenge is deemed a failure. If damage does not exceed twenty percent, the challenge is deemed successful. Dungeon challenge countdown begins: ten seconds, ten... nine..."
Hearing this, Lian Yun immediately dashed to the side of the pillar and released all twenty-five Ghost Slaves. He positioned them in a triangular formation around the pillar with Yang Zai Xing and Heicheng, while the Twelve Fierce Warriors surrounded the pillar in a circle. Finally, Big Head and others were temporarily spread out evenly.
As soon as the countdown reached zero, dozens of Grizzly Bears suddenly charged out from the darkness beyond the platform. The level of these bears was from Gray Bear Valley, which felt somewhat strange to Lian Yun. However, he did not dare to be careless and ordered Big Head and others to eliminate them all.
Although there weren't many Grizzly Bears appearing at once, they came in a continuous stream with hardly any time gaps between them. Fortunately, Lian Yun's Ghost Slaves were incredibly experienced and handled the situation with ease.
Ten minutes later, tigers emerged from the surrounding darkness, yet Lian Yun's Ghost Slaves remained unfazed by this new threat.
While Lian Yun thought this wasn't particularly difficult, he sensed that perhaps greater challenges lay ahead.
Another ten minutes passed, and after the tigers came Gray Wolves. Although there were more Gray Wolves than Grizzly Bears, they still couldn't inflict any damage on the Five Dragon Pillar.
Following this pattern, Lian Yun speculated that what would come next would either be giant pythons or Wolf Kings.
Ten minutes later, as Lian Yun had anticipated, his guess was confirmed.
Ten giant pythons surged forth from all directions, and at the same time, several Wolf Kings appeared alongside the massive snakes. They raced along the bodies of the pythons, charging directly toward the stone pillar above Lian Yun's head.
This was indeed unexpected, but Lian Yun reacted swiftly. With a prepared sword technique, he swept through the air, instantly sending half of the pythons flying. Then he leaped up and killed a dozen Wolf Kings that were attacking Ling Kong.
Hei jumped back and forth between several pythons, slaying Wolf Kings while simultaneously forcing some of the pythons to lower their heads, allowing a few of the Fierce Soldiers among the Twelve Fierce Warriors to finish them off.
As for Yang Zai Xing, he took down one python with each shot from his gun, firing three times in total. His effectiveness was no less than Lian Yun's sweeping strike. With the help of several other Fierce Soldiers, they quickly dealt with all the Wolf Kings.
Once Big Head and the other Ghost Slaves had eliminated all the wolves, no new Chaos Beasts appeared from the surrounding darkness.
At first, Lian Yun thought they might have succeeded in their challenge.
However, without any notification, he realized it wasn't over yet. He felt somewhat speechless as he realized that this battle lasting about half an hour was merely the first wave of attacks.
To be honest, if it had only been Lian Yun facing this first wave alone, the Five Dragon Pillar would have likely sustained at least five percent damage.
Even if the strength of subsequent Chaos Beasts remained unchanged, after five waves like this, completing the challenge would be impossible. Moreover, the Grizzly Bears that emerged in the second wave were slightly stronger in speed and power than those in the first wave.
In response, Lian Yun quickly made adjustments. He allowed some Ghost Slaves to rest while having those among the Twelve Fierce Warriors who hadn’t fought step in to replace the heavily exhausted Ghost Slaves.
It wasn’t until seven or eight minutes after the wolf pack appeared that all Ghost Slaves were sent back into action.
Meanwhile, Big Head and others fought while creating a path for Lian Yun and Yang Zai Xing. When the giant pythons and Wolf Kings attacked again, it allowed Lian Yun, Yang Zai Xing, and Hei to strike first.
As the third wave and fourth wave passed, by the time the fifth wave arrived, just the initial Grizzly Bears forced the Twelve Fierce Warriors to engage. When the Tiger Pack emerged, Lian Yun, Yang Zai Xing, and Black Capital had to lend a hand. The subsequent wolf pack moved with a speed that rivaled that of the original Wolf King.
Thus, Lian Yun and the twenty-five Ghost Slaves launched a full-scale attack, eliminating most of the wolves before the Wolf King and the giant python made their appearance. They quickly regrouped afterward.
The Twelve Fierce Warriors took the lead, with Lian Yun, Yang Zai Xing, and Black positioned in the middle, while Big Head and the other nine were closest to the stone pillar.
When the final wave of giant pythons and Wolf Kings appeared, over ten Wolf Kings almost instantly reached the front of the Twelve Fierce Warriors. If the giant python charged in, it was likely that even the Twelve Fierce Warriors would struggle to hold their ground.
In response, Lian Yun, Yang Zai Xing, and Black swiftly attacked, taking down several Wolf Kings in front before rushing out to block the giant python.
After mitigating this wave of attacks, Three Spirits and others joined the fray, leaving only Sword Mountain, Zhao Jinlong, and Zhao Jinhui to guard the Five Dragon Pillar.
Their task was simple: to push back any approaching Wolf Kings.
Once Lian Yun and the others had defeated the giant python and returned to assist, they successfully eliminated all remaining Wolf Kings. With that, the fifth wave concluded, and Lian Yun received a notification.
