Chapter 69: Huang Clan Incident
To be honest, Grandma's Birthday Banquet was prepared rather hastily.
It was only because Lian Yun had not returned yet that Grandma did not plan for a grand celebration; she intended to prepare a simple family meal and wait for Lian Yun to come back so the family could gather for a meal together.
However, with Lin Xiaoyao returning early and the news being relayed, the Lin Clan had no choice but to organize a lavish event, although that was quite some time ago.
In just two days, arranging a feast that gathered all the prominent families in the city was no easy task. For instance, some delicacies required several days just for soaking or simmering.
Although most of the guests who came to celebrate were not genuinely interested in the food, the appearance still had to be presentable.
Moreover, it was inevitable that more people would come uninvited than those who received formal invitations. The exact number was uncertain, but the Lin Clan needed to prepare as best as they could for their guests.
As a result, many renowned chefs were invited to the Lin Clan's residence. Some precious ingredients created a bustling scene at the entrance.
Lian Yun, however, did not pay much attention to this.
Grandma was beaming with joy, but Lian Yun and Le Yan, as a couple, felt rather awkward and out of place.
Thinking about the gifts for the occasion, Lian Yun glanced at Lotus Pond and then gave Grandma a meaningful look.
Yet Grandma was so happy that she seemed oblivious; despite Lian Yun trying to catch her attention several times with his gaze, she didn't notice. After a while, she finally shook her head quietly but couldn't help but affectionately ruffle Ghostly Women's hair, her eyes filled with tenderness and love.
Lian Yun fell silent for a moment before taking out a jar and gathering his Purple Qi into liquid form, filling the jar and presenting it before Grandma. Then he left with Le Yan and Ghostly Women.
Lian Yun didn’t mind Grandma treating his gift as something optional; he simply felt that if his grandfather Lin Jin could be reborn today, then Grandma's grand birthday celebration would truly be complete.
However, some things cannot be forced, so Lian Yun chose not to dwell on it further.
With Le Yan and Ling Er riding on his shoulder, Lian Yun headed toward his courtyard. It was where his mother grew up, and regardless of whether Le Yan had been there before or not, Lian Yun wanted to take her there himself.
The emotions were akin to meeting one's parents.
The naive Ling'er felt an overwhelming sense of pride and satisfaction discovering that she could make Grandma so happy. Perched on Lian Yun's shoulder, her feet swayed back and forth in sheer joy.
However, the good times were short-lived. A gloomy-faced Beautiful Woman rushed forward, glaring at Ling'er with a fierce demeanor. "Get down! You disgraceful thing."
Lian Yun nearly lost her temper, but the newcomer had once treated her very well, even expressing a desire to take her as a daughter.
"Aunt, you—"
"Yun'er, don't get involved in this."
The once gracious and kind woman had transformed into someone unrecognizable.
At the very least, Huang did not resort to violence against Ling'er, which showed some restraint.
Even Grandma couldn't change the mindset of this person who had undergone such a drastic transformation; how could Lian Yun, as an outsider, hope to do so?
Feeling Ling'er's distress and fear, yet seeing her obediently climb down from her shoulder, Lian Yun instinctively grasped her hand.
Then, with a sudden thought, she waved her hand for those around to step back and released Su Fang.
Originally, Lian Yun believed that only Su Fang could resolve this situation and thought that Ling'er would eventually win over her Aunt and change her mind. But after witnessing her attitude towards Ling'er, Lian Yun found it hard to let go or ignore the issue.
Su Fang emerged, her expression fierce and almost feral.
Her presence was intimidating; Huang instinctively took a step back but quickly halted herself, glaring at Lian Yun. "What? Now that you've grown up, you think you can bully your Aunt?"
Huang had reached a point of unreasonable behavior.
However, Lian Yun shook his head, looking at Su Fang, and said softly, "Can you do me a favor?"
Su Fang turned to glance at Ling Er, her expression instantly warming, even revealing a rare tenderness that Big Head could not compare to.
She rubbed Ling Er's head and then nodded, before glaring fiercely at Huang. A surge from her belly sent out Nine Ghosts.
The Demon howled mournfully, swirling around Huang for several circles.
"Yun'er, stop it!"
At the Lin Family, nine men hurried over. Upon seeing this scene, although they trusted Lian Yun, Lin Nan was still anxious to save his wife.
However, Nine Offspring returned to Su Fang's belly first.
Su Fang cast a cold glance at the pale-faced Huang and then turned away, instantly becoming gentle again as she rubbed Ling Er's head before returning to Lian Yun's body.
At this moment, Ling Er was already in tears, too heartbroken to speak.
Ling Er clutched Lian Yun's pant leg and said with a sobbing tone, "Brother Yun, can you let that sister come out to see me more often in the future?"
"Sure!"
Ling Er beamed with a smile and then hurried over to Huang, wanting to help her up. But feeling unclean herself, she lowered her head in guilt and stood aside.
"Nine Sons Ghost Mother, it's better not to have children than to have them die in the womb!"
At this point, everyone understood Lian Yun's intention. Lin Nan couldn't help but shout at his wife.
Lian Yun nodded and said softly, "Not only that, but Su Fang's experiences have been even more difficult!"
Lian Yun slowly recounted Su Fang's experiences, ultimately expressing that Su Fang was not the only one who had suffered; there were also the thirty-one Many-Child Demon Mothers and countless unfortunate women who had been pregnant with twins or triplets, only to be killed and discarded.
This was the request Lian Yun had made earlier—to share her experiences.
There was another purpose behind it.
Upon returning, Lian Yun could clearly sense that many people in the capital were filled with longing for Yin Yang City.
It was understandable; in just three years, Lin Xiaoyao, once merely a king, had gained the strength to challenge the entirety of Huaxia. The opportunities within Yin Yang City were unimaginable to outsiders, yet they knew the chances were vast—very vast.
However, Lian Yun understood that although she had not engaged in much killing, within the Four Great Cities, people came and went. The turnover was not excessively frequent, but neither was it slow.
Three or four out of ten would surely die, and two or three would become mere mortals. If a large number of people surged in, casualties would inevitably increase.
Lian Yun intended to use today's events and the voice of the Lin Family to warn all of Huaxia!
Of course, this was merely an unintended consequence. Lian Yun's original intention was just to let Huang know that Ling Er's condition could be considered a stroke of luck amidst misfortune. She hoped he could change and seriously accept Ling Er's state.
