“Ladies and gentlemen, those who know me are aware of my name. For those who don’t, feel free to ask someone else. Now, let’s get back to the point. Do you believe that in a few years, cars will be flying in the sky?”
Howard turned to his assistants, signaling them to remove the wheels from the red car parked behind him. He also remembered to thank his beautiful assistant, “Thank you, Mandy.”
“Everyone, take a good look. This is powered by Stark Anti-Gravity Engine Technology… a flying car is indeed possible.” Howard’s explanation was deliberately suspenseful, successfully capturing everyone’s attention.
As the wheels were removed, the car began to float in the air, rising higher and higher, causing gasps of astonishment from the crowd.
However, just about ten seconds later, the car crashed to the ground with a loud bang, followed by a series of electrical sparks before it was completely rendered useless.
Howard forced a stiff smile but quickly regained his composure; after all, he was known for his thick skin as a playboy. “What I’ve shown today may very well become a reality in a few years, right?”
Watching this spectacle, Ye Kai smirked on the outside while secretly reveling in delight.
Almost everyone at the scene laughed at the car’s demise. While they found the vehicle intriguing, their primary interest lay with its owner, Howard Stark—the great inventor and the wealthiest bachelor around.
Of course, there was one person who was equally captivated by Howard but had ulterior motives brewing in his mind about how to abduct him directly!
Such a clever man and brilliant inventor were rare finds indeed!
After all, Ye Kai hadn’t forgotten his mission; one of his objectives was to gather scientific researchers.
Stark Anti-Gravity Engine Technology!!!
Damn it, this was something he absolutely needed!
“Hmmm! Perhaps this guy has many more interesting things up his sleeve!” He felt quite satisfied with what he was about to acquire.
Perhaps it was because his gaze was too intense and passionate, but Howard's face, which had been smiling on the surface, suddenly stiffened.
Ye Kai turned around with an enigmatic smile and walked away, for he still had to go to another place where a primary mission awaited him.
As he turned his head, he spotted his two good friends walking toward the recruitment office, one in front of the other.
All along the way, it was as if an invisible force field surrounded Ye Kai; anyone who approached within about two meters would instinctively veer away, yet they seemed completely unaware of this phenomenon.
"Steve, you haven't forgotten that we're supposed to be on a date with some beautiful ladies, have you?" James said with a wry smile as he patted his buddy's shoulder. "We should be dancing right now."
"You go ahead; I'll catch up in a bit."
Steve had never given up on his ideals. He believed that only by enlisting could he quickly become stronger, and this was also an opportunity to showcase his ambitions.
James looked exasperated. "You really want to try again?"
"Since we're already here, I have to give it a shot. You should understand me, James!" Steve replied firmly.
"Well! What’s your plan this time? Pretend you're Stephen from Ohio? You’ll get found out and then arrested... but that’s nothing compared to them actually drafting you. You should know this isn’t just a game; it’s not like street thugs fighting in an alley. This is war, and people die at any moment!"
"I understand."
"You understand? Then why do you still want to fight? There are plenty of jobs you could choose from!" James was already very frustrated.
His good friend was great in many ways, but he stubbornly insisted on joining the military. Although what he was about to say might hurt, he had held back for too long. He truly didn’t want to see Steve come to any harm.
He didn't want to see his good brother being rejected time and again, feeling sad and heartbroken each time. That was why he chose to enlist; he wanted to fight on the battlefield for his brother, to battle for both of them.
"I know it's war, but I..."
"There are so many jobs available. Why do you have to join the army?"
"What jobs? Are you suggesting I collect scrap metal on the street with my own cart?"
"Why not work in a factory?"
"I don't want to be any kind of worker. Listen to me, Barnes. So many heroes are sacrificing themselves for the country. I can't just survive here in hiding. I want to enlist, not for myself, and besides, I'm not any less than any of them." Steve looked up at James.
"Is that so?" James stubbornly shook his head as he looked at Steve, knowing his good brother was just putting on a brave face. "But I know you're just trying to prove yourself."
Ye Kai watched with amusement as Steve and James locked eyes. If he hadn't known their relationship beforehand, it would have been hard not to think of something else upon seeing this scene!
At the same time, he noticed another key figure watching the two.
The man who could almost be said to change Steve's life: Abraham Erskine.
Whether Steve could truly become Captain America depended on the enhanced serum held by this elderly man with white hair and glasses.
Ye Kai suddenly walked over to the old man, smiling as he spoke, "Erskine."
"Yes?"
Although Abraham was a researcher with little combat ability, his alertness was impressive. He quickly reacted, his expression wary as he asked, "Who are you?"
"Doctor, what do you think of this?"
Ye Kai shrugged and offered a harmless smile. "I saw you watching Steve over there. Wow, look at that! The bond between those two is truly touching, isn't it, Erskine?"
Seeing the two still tightly embracing each other and exchanging playful insults—calling each other fool and idiot—was quite the spectacle!
"I don't know how you know me, but right now, please stop following me. I don't want to talk to you; just step aside." Abraham had long passed the age of naivety and felt deep suspicion towards this suddenly appearing Asian face.
With a helpless scratch of his head, Ye Kai thought it would be better to be direct; otherwise, who knew what might happen next? If this doctor shouted about a spy, it would spell trouble for him.
His pupils suddenly fluctuated as an invisible Mental Power radiated from him, directly controlling Abraham Erskine. He then led him to a secluded corner and brought him into the System Space.
It was better to keep this doctor under his control.
Although he would need him for the upcoming events, delaying him for a while shouldn't cause any major issues.
Right?
