"Beep!"
As the communication Light Screen activated, Ye Kai was startled. He thought there was a data glitch with WIKI and that he had randomly connected to a homeless man on Earth.
Goodness!
That dark, greasy face nearly filled half of the Screen, and his messy hair looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks. The coat he wore was so indistinct that it was hard to tell if it was black or some other color.
"Dear sir, may I ask which star domain you are from? Have you been to the Outerlet Star System? My name is Hamilas Volchira Omar. Could you spare me some pure energy? Of course, if you have anything to repair a jump drive..."
"Shut up!"
Perona yanked her husband back, her voice urgent. "Dear sir, is my child Asur Daichi Walchira Omar with you?"
"Yes, yes! Is my son visiting you? Sir, you're too kind! If you ever come to my Hammiras, I have the finest wines here. It's been ages since I've seen anyone from other stars..."
"Shut up!" Perona shouted.
"Why do you keep telling me to shut up? Honestly."
"Have you already stopped listening to me after just a few decades away from home? You heartless scoundrel..."
"Oh, Perona, my dear, why are you crying again?"
Ye Kai's mouth twitched as he listened, his mind filled with confusion. He poked the blushing Azul, who had his head down, and asked in a daze, "So, is this your mom and dad?"
Looking at the guy whose face was turning increasingly green, he fell silent for a moment. However, he couldn't hold it in any longer because he simply couldn't think of any other words to describe the scene.
Finally, Ye Kai managed to squeeze out a sentence: "You Outlanders... are all this amusing?"
"Amusing my ass, you jerk!"
"If you have the guts, challenge me one-on-one! If you can, don’t use that... that..."
Seeing the furious child in front of him turning red without managing to say what he wanted, Ye Kai felt a sense of melancholy. He reaffirmed that among all the people he had encountered, there truly wasn't anyone even slightly normal.
He looked at the almost crying Azul and sighed, "Kid, don’t stop taking your medicine!"
"You’re the one who's sick! Your whole family is sick!"
Azul was completely at his limit, his entire body nearly turning red like a boiled lobster.
"Are you about to transform, kid?" Ye Kai exclaimed. "Quick, get some ice water to cool him down; he's about to self-combust!"
No sooner had he spoken than Azul burst into tears, collapsing on the metal floor and wailing loudly. His cries were filled with such grievance that they made everyone’s scalp tingle.
To be honest, Ye Kai felt a bit awkward and regretful; what on earth was happening!
"Oh dear, my baby, why are you crying? Don’t worry; Mommy and Daddy aren’t fighting. We’re just... uh, practicing for a play..." Hamiras exclaimed as she immediately hugged her furious daughter-in-law tightly while explaining loudly.
But instead of explaining, he only made things worse. His explanation did not stop Azul's cries; instead, it made her sob even more pitifully, her voice hoarse from the effort. Ye Kai felt a pang of anxiety.
He feared that she might faint from crying too hard!
"Hey, sweetheart, Mommy's coming! Don't cry, don't cry!" Perona exclaimed as she wriggled free from the embrace and hurriedly piloted a contraption resembling a Maglev Battle Car.
"Let go of me!"
Ye Kai slapped his forehead in exasperation. If he didn't hurry and have WIKI deactivate the defensive shield, even if that thing was made of some super metal, it would explode into a shower of sparks.
A few minutes later, after seeing her mother rush over to embrace her, Azul pointed at herself and then at Ye Kai, sniffling and rolling her eyes dramatically, unable to find her voice as she trembled with emotion.
"Good girl, Mommy knows you met a kind uncle. Please stop crying. It's been so long since we encountered anyone from another star domain. You have no idea—ever since our Jump Phase Engine completely exploded, I've almost forgotten the taste of your grandmother's Red Bean Pastry."
Jump Phase Engine and Red Bean Pastry?
What kind of mental leap had led her to connect those two things?
Ye Kai watched the mother and daughter engage in a conversation that seemed entirely disconnected. He glanced at the man on the Light Screen, who appeared lost in some nostalgic reverie, and began to doubt whether he was being overly sensitive.
What kind of battle was this supposed to be?
He had thought that 'aliens' would have bad tempers and might start a fight over a disagreement!
Well then!
What on earth is happening right now?
In an instant, the captain's room was filled only with the sound of a child sobbing and a mother soothing her child with a gentle voice.
"Oh! My dearest friend, you are truly wonderful. My little one just loves to run around everywhere, and we hardly have time to keep an eye on him."
Hamiras finally snapped back to reality, revealing his pearly white teeth as he chuckled, "Hehe, by the way, do you have any memory metal over there?"
However, the first thing that came out of this guy's mouth after regaining his composure made Ye Kai suspicious. This fellow really was an alien; he looked like a down-and-out vagabond, but once he opened his mouth, he instantly turned into a mad scientist?
What the hell!
Do I know you that well?
Ye Kai really wanted to slap him across the face, but after thinking it over, he decided against this tempting act of 'slapping an alien for the first time.'
The reason was simple: Damn it, who knows if this unreliable guy would suddenly go berserk and try to fight me!
Alright then, let's be magnanimous and not hold it against him. Ye Kai sighed in exasperation and amusement as he asked, "Can you tell me what kinds of memory metals there are?"
"There are many! For example, SA Form Memory Metal, Kys Waveguide Memory Metal, ZSD Aggregated Devouring Metal..."
To be honest, Ye Kai was left dumbfounded again; he was completely lost. He had never heard of any of these things before!
For a third-rate university student who graduated with a degree in Computer Network Technology, he originally just wanted to happily be a landlord!
He didn't know much about what was going on, but after watching countless videos, he at least understood a little.
As for shape memory alloys?
Waveguide memory metals?
Polymeric swallowing metals?
What on earth were those?
After rambling on for a while, Hamiras picked up a blueprint in his hand and exclaimed, "Hey! That's right, our Jump Phase Engine has encountered a bit of an issue. You should have the Electromagnetic Traction Field Fusion Reactor over there, right? Oh my, I'm so lucky, hahaha..."
"Uh..." Ye Kai scratched his chin in confusion, feeling that something was off.
