Snow fell?!
Ye Kai opened his palm, watching the cold snowflakes land on it, a hint of confusion suddenly appeared in his eyes. Logically, they had only traveled less than twenty miles since dawn.
How could they have reached the scene where it snowed in the original storyline so quickly?
Looking ahead at the seemingly endless path through the dense forest, all the Contractors felt a sense of bewilderment.
In the original plot, it was at the moment it started snowing that they saw the Monastery, and now, they were still…
"Ah, I see!"
Feeling as if he had passed through a transparent barrier like water, Ye Kai finally understood that this Tormented Forest was actually a large barrier deliberately set up by someone.
Although he wasn't quite sure why snowflakes could drift inside, they had finally made it out.
He glanced once more at the woman in the prison cart, who wore a mysterious smile, and everyone’s hearts in Divine City began to tighten.
They all understood that it wasn't that they had come out too early; rather, someone simply didn't want to play anymore.
"See? We've finally arrived at Cyfreck Monastery!" Ferson exclaimed excitedly.
"Yes, we’ve finally made it," Beiman said, his gaze complex as he looked at the castle-like structure atop the distant mountain.
"Clop clop clop!"
Nerun approached Ye Kai with a serious expression, riding alongside him as they slowly moved forward. "Do you have any good suggestions or opinions?"
"Suggestions? Opinions?"
Ye Kai wore a half-smile on his face and said softly, "Haven't you seen that scenario? The best way to deal with fire is, of course, with water."
Nerun's expression shifted slightly as he tentatively asked, "Are you suggesting we gather all the Holy Water from the Monastery at the first opportunity?"
"I don't have any objections, but it does seem like a good plan, doesn't it?" Ye Kai continued to smile lightly.
At that moment, Ferson suddenly spoke up ahead, "Ha! We’ve finally made it, Beiman!"
"We've crossed oceans, traversed the deathly silence of deserts, and encountered many little-known things. After this is over, I want to return home and see the familiar Gorge. What about you?"
"Me?" Beiman's eyes revealed a deep nostalgia as he sighed, "I don't share your longing for home."
"Wow? Really? Then come with me to my hometown!"
Ferson exclaimed excitedly, "We’ll feast on the most delicious lamb and pure red wine in the hall of the castle established by my ancestors. We can also chat with them about all the places we've been and the lives we've lived over the years."
"I don't think so. I believe they won't be very interested in hearing about that. Even if they are, no one would believe it!" Beiman shrugged, seemingly skeptical of the proposal.
"Trust me, brother; you'll see when the time comes. They will pass our stories down through generations!" Ferson replied firmly.
Hearing the conversation between the two, Ye Kai and Nerun lost their interest in speaking. Instead, they began to focus on the increasingly close Monastery.
As they continued along the mountain path, a chilling and strange aura began to permeate the air. Ye Kai knew that it was the essence of death—true death.
Just as in the original storyline, he pushed open the doors of the Monastery. In addition to the cold atmosphere, a foul stench rose up, one that seemed impossible to dissipate, almost choking him.
According to their original plan, Ye Kai discreetly instructed Wood and the others to quickly search for any Holy Water they could find while he followed Beiman.
"Where have all the monks gone?" Ferson exclaimed loudly.
"Perhaps they have gone to pray; they should be in the chapel!" Dibearzagg replied immediately and hurried ahead towards the chapel.
"Brothers of the Church, we apologize for intruding; we come seeking help from not far from Thousands of Corpses..."
"Wait!" Seeing Beiman wave his hand to stop Dibearzagg, Ye Kai suddenly spoke up: "I feel something is off here; we should be cautious."
Observing the varied expressions on their faces, he naturally strolled forward, reaching out to lift the hood of a Black-Robed Priest. He said in a low voice, "Perhaps the answer is already quite clear... Black Death!"
"Black Death?!!"
"What?"
Beiman and Dibearzagg exclaimed in unison, stepping forward to investigate. Each time they did so, their hearts sank further.
"It’s impossible!"
"How can this be possible!!!"
"I don't believe it. God will not abandon us... God will not abandon us."
At that moment, a sound of footsteps echoed as Ferson entered with the altar assistant Kane. Upon seeing Beiman shake his head slightly, he understood what had transpired here and quickly stopped Kane, who was about to speak.
"We should leave. There is no one left alive here; only Black Death is spreading!" Beiman said, patting the shoulder of the devout Missionary.
Dibearzagg looked up, his eyes filled with despair. "Where do we go? Where is there still hope? This place—this was our hope..."
"Now, we are hanging by a thread. Only prayer remains; seeking God's forgiveness is our only path to salvation."
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we forgive..."
Watching the Missionary on the brink of collapse, Ye Kai shook his head inwardly. He realized he understood far too little about faith.
Yet he also knew that whether in the real world or in other Dimensions, 'faith' held supreme importance in the hearts of believers. Regardless of how noble their status or position might be, when faced with incomprehensible events, they would inevitably confront a spiritual breakdown.
Thus, they would seek the faith within themselves to achieve a dual elevation and release of their spirit and mind.
Just like the scene before him.
"Damn it, Dibearzagg, get up..."
"Uh..."
Suddenly, a faint groan escaped, startling both of the arguing individuals. Dibearzagg immediately stepped forward and began reciting scripture.
Ye Kai completely ignored the pastor, who was barely clinging to life, and instead feigned curiosity as he quickly walked in the direction the pastor pointed.
Following his lead was Nerun, another leader from a different Contractor team.
Unfortunately, just as Ye Kai was preparing for a fight, thinking he could grab what he wanted and run, a cold notification suddenly rang in his ears.
"Nightmare Space Notification: You have been cursed by the will of all the priests of Cyfreck Monastery. You must defeat the demon head-on."
"Data compilation complete. Mission log updated..."
"Mandatory Main Quest: Disrupt the demon's plot or drive it back to hell!"
"Mission Brief: Anna has caught the attention of the demon, and her soul is hanging by a thread. You must rescue her!"
"Mission Objective: Stop the demon from spreading the black plague or drive it back to hell. (Of course, you can also kill it completely if you have the strength to do so!)"
"Mission Hint: The final moment is approaching. Once this mandatory main quest is completed, return immediately to Nightmare Space."
"Mission Hint: Upon accepting this mission, all Technological Side methods will be rendered non-lethal!"
...
What the hell!!!
Ye Kai cursed under his breath, realizing that this mandatory main quest was clearly another pit he had to jump into despite knowing it was a trap. Damn it!
There was not only a lack of useful information but also no rewards in sight. Was this clearly intended to push people to their limits?
Was this what one had to endure to enter Nightmare Space through unconventional means?
Could it be this frustrating?
He raised his head and glanced at Nerun, who wore a similarly constipated expression, which made him feel a bit better.
He was certain that this mission was not just for the two of them; others must be seeing it too.
He stomped his foot in frustration and stepped forward, looking at Beiman as he flipped open The Book of Solomon. He was immediately dumbfounded; to him, it was nothing but strange, unknown symbols and some illustrations.
Nerun was equally on the verge of losing it. Nightmare Space really left no room for anyone to maneuver!
The two exchanged glances, and they had both made up their minds: once they dealt with the demon, they would definitely take that book with them.
As for who would ultimately take it away, that would depend on each person's skills.
"Dibearzagg, come quickly and take a look at this book!" Beiman exclaimed, his eyes flashing with a glimmer of excitement before he spoke in a low voice.
"Oh my, this is The Book of Solomon!"
Dibearzagg suddenly trembled, exclaiming, "I remember now! The bishop mentioned that The Book of Solomon is the key to resolving this crisis."
"The entire book contains verses for expelling and identifying demons, rituals, and spells used by saints throughout history. It can be used to whisper against the invasion of evil..."
"Then... can you perform the ritual?" Beiman asked in a low voice.
Dibearzagg did not answer but tightened his grip on the book in his hands, his resolute expression serving as his response.
It was only at this moment that Ye Kai finally let out a light sigh, for he had noticed that the oppressive aura began to rise, followed by a wave of intense heat spreading around him.
This heat was peculiar; it did not bring him any warmth but instead deepened the sense of gloom.
As he stepped out of the chapel, he glanced back, and it was that very glance that revealed something interesting to him.
With a quick flick of his eyes, just as Nerun stepped through the door, he transformed into a blur, effortlessly covering several meters to snatch the object and tuck it into his cloak before leaping back.
In just a breath's time, aside from Nerun casting him a puzzled look, the others were entirely focused on the young girl in the prison cart outside.
Following everyone out, Ye Kai immediately looked towards Wood and the others, noticing their calm smiles and nods in his direction, which eased his tension.
Despite how weak that demon seemed in the distant narrative, the reality of the situation was far more daunting!
After all, they were not merely watching a movie; they were truly part of the unfolding story!
