Living Funeral
“Gao Ling?” I murmured to myself.
I thought it was a bit strange, but surely she wouldn’t be possessed, right?
Just then, there was a knock on the door outside. “Fei, are you awake?” Gao Ling called out.
I responded that I was awake.
The three of us headed out together and got into the car to go to the funeral home to handle the female ghost's body. This time, we would deal with her body in front of her; surely the ghost wouldn’t have any complaints about that.
Upon arriving at the funeral home and retrieving the body, the female ghost suddenly said to me, “Could you fix up my body a bit?”
I thought to myself that this was quite troublesome. In the end, I suppressed my urge to vomit and patched up the body. After performing some simple rituals, we buried the female ghost.
She thanked me softly.
I didn’t see any need for thanks.
This funeral home felt odd. After finishing everything, I suggested we leave this place; it truly felt eerie. I had come here to verify some answers, but there wasn’t a single person around.
What Zhang Xun did in the video remained uncertain.
As we were about to leave, I asked Gao Ling to call Old Wang again, but surprisingly, his phone was still off.
On the way back, since we were driving at night, I reminded Gao Ling to stay alert.
As the car approached the city, the female ghost suddenly spoke up, "I think I see my boyfriend."
"What? That can't be a coincidence."
The ghost pointed ahead at a figure dressed in a hoodie and black pants, wandering aimlessly down the street. It was nearly midnight.
"Let's follow him," she said.
Gao Ling and I exchanged glances before nodding in agreement. I didn't want to be haunted by this ghost any longer; it would be better to resolve this situation as soon as possible.
Encountering her boyfriend felt like fate intervening.
Gao Ling cautiously drove behind the man, who walked with a stiff gait and seemed to be heading toward a secluded area.
Before long, he turned onto a narrow road, forcing us to park and get out of the car.
We followed the path, but it led us further away from the city into desolate land, the surroundings growing darker with each step.
After about fifteen minutes of walking, we spotted a bonfire ahead, beside which lay a coffin.
However, her boyfriend was nowhere to be seen.
A sense of unease washed over me. I felt tricked, and a chill crept up my spine—a bone-deep coldness.
Gao Ling exhaled nervously and asked, "Where is he?"
I said, "How would I know?"
At that moment, the female ghost seemed to panic as well, but just then, a cold voice came from behind us, saying, "I've been looking for you for a long time..."
After those words fell, we quickly turned around to see a young man standing behind us, his face rigid and his skin waxy yellow.
"It's a ghost!" Gao Ling exclaimed.
As if it mattered whether it was a ghost or not, I turned to Gao Ling and said, "Get your talisman out!"
Gao Ling quickly did as I instructed. The figure in front of us advanced menacingly, and we began to back away step by step. But at that moment, the female ghost asked, "Why do you want to kill me? Who are you? What have you done to my boyfriend?"
The man sneered coldly and replied, "You don't deserve to know who I am. Your boyfriend has already been eaten by me."
Upon hearing this, the female ghost seemed to lose her sanity and charged forward. I had initially thought this ghost was an Evil Spirit and could hold her own for a while.
But I was wrong. As she lunged forward, the man quickly grabbed her. His hands were black, as if coated with something, and he seized the female ghost before shoving her into his mouth.
What the hell! Both Gao Ling and I were stunned; he was actually eating a ghost!
My heart raced—this guy was definitely not human! He was eating ghosts! This was an Evil Spirit being devoured right before our eyes.
I was dumbfounded, and so was Gao Ling.
What on earth was this guy—human or ghost?
After finishing off the female ghost, the man let out a chilling laugh. The campfire crackled in the wind behind us, and there was still a coffin nearby.
We stepped back cautiously.
At that moment, Gao Ling was trembling as she held the Exorcism Talisman.
Gao Ling asked me, "Fei, what should we do now?"
I felt a chill run down my spine, an overwhelming urge to run away surged within me. If ghosts could eat, then surely humans were no exception.
The man wiped his mouth and suddenly said to me, "You're even better; you actually possess the Yin-Yang Fate."
"What the hell?" I asked.
I was completely bewildered, not understanding what this guy was talking about.
I turned to Gao Ling and said, "Let's run." As soon as I spoke, Gao Ling responded immediately and started running away quickly.
I watched her retreating figure; I hadn’t even moved yet, and she was already gone.
I inhaled sharply, my breathing quickening uncontrollably.
The man kept his gaze fixed on me, showing no intention of pursuing Gao Ling. I asked, "What do you want?"
"Of course, I'm going to eat you!" His voice was chillingly cold, and before I knew it, he charged at me. I wanted to run too, but I realized I wasn’t fast enough; he quickly caught up with me.
Next thing I knew, I was pinned to the ground. He grabbed me and dragged me toward the coffin.
I was placed inside the coffin. Damn it, this was it—I was done for. But maybe this was a critical moment; perhaps I could check the Pouch Zhang Xun had given me.
But at that moment, in a state of panic, I couldn't find the Pouch at all.
The man then said to me, "I'm going to eat you now." He reached out to grab my neck. I wanted to resist, but at that moment, I felt as if I was being immobilized by this coffin.
I glanced around and noticed intricate patterns surrounding the coffin. Could it be that these patterns were what held me down?
Just then, I heard someone shout "Exorcism Talisman." As soon as those words were spoken, the man let out a terrible scream. I thought Gao Ling had succeeded.
Just as I was about to feel relieved, the next second, Gao Ling's scream echoed through the air, even more agonizing than the man's.
I called out from inside the coffin, "Are you okay, Gao Ling?"
Gao Ling replied, "I'm fine."
From his voice, I could tell that Gao Ling wasn't in good shape. I urged him to forget about me and escape on his own.
But all I got in response was another shout of "Exorcism Talisman." That damn fool really was stubborn; he wasn't running away.
Gao Ling must not have lasted a minute because there was no commotion outside anymore. The man's face had turned somewhat pale by this point. His hands tightened around my neck with such force that it felt like he was about to strangle me to death.
I quickly found it hard to breathe, feeling as if my soul was about to leave my body.
This sensation was excruciating. The worst part was that the man let out a chilling laugh—certainly doomed, dead for sure. At that moment, I could see my own soul.
I had given up struggling and thought to myself that if I was going to die, then so be it. But suddenly, a scream pierced through my thoughts before I could even react.
Then I saw a flawless white hand reaching out toward me, and I heard someone say, "Get up."
I instinctively grabbed his hand and slowly sat up from the coffin. As I did, I felt my soul return to my body, and I quickly regained my composure.
My breath returned, and then I saw Zhang Xun.
Zhang Xun asked, "Are you okay?"
Once I was back to my senses, I replied that I was fine and immediately jumped out of the coffin. Damn, I almost died.
Zhang Xun had a Peach Wood Sword on his back and was holding an Ink Fight in his hand.
I scanned the area and noticed Gao Ling lying on the ground. I was worried that he might be dead, so I hurried over to him.
I checked for his breath and found that he was still alive; he had just fainted.
At that moment, the man from before was still screaming in agony, looking very much in pain.
By the light of the campfire, I saw a dagger lodged in his back, with a Yellow Talisman pierced through it.
The man seemed to have gone mad as he shouted, "Who are you? Why are you ruining my plans?"
Zhang Xun ignored him and calmly said to me, "Seal the coffin later."
I didn't quite understand at first, but Zhang Xun quickly took action. The Peach Wood Sword in his hand pierced straight through the man's body.
The man let out another scream, and then I saw a murky soul separate from his body.
In the next moment, Zhang Xun was knocked to the ground, and I wanted to rush forward to help.
But Zhang Xun said to me, "Wait for the coffin." He repeated this phrase.
"You ruin my good deed, and I will let you die."
Although Zhang Xun was pinned to the ground, he showed no signs of panic. He placed his wooden sword down, then stacked his hands together and began to chant a spell. His gestures changed, and finally, he pressed his index and middle fingers against the murky soul. In the next moment, the soul was repelled.
Zhang Xun quickly got up from the ground and pulled out the red thread from Ink Fight, wrapping it around the sword's body.
Then he spread his hands and moved toward the soul.
The murky soul charged forward again, but the red thread from Ink Fight was knocked back. Zhang Xun rushed forward swiftly, not giving the soul a chance to react, and bound it with the red thread.
However, the soul struggled violently...
Zhang Xun's expression was somewhat grim as I continued to observe the changes in the situation. The soul was directly forced into the coffin by Zhang Xun, who then took out a talisman and affixed it.
The soul let out an even more piercing scream, but in the next moment, it began to shout, "I know who you are!"
