A single sentence from Gao Qing left Gao Ling speechless. 0

I was curious too; after all, there was nothing wrong with the vermilion. Vermilion wards off evil spirits, as anyone who has seen a horror movie would know. 0

Before Gao Qing could explain further, she instructed Gao Ling, "Go prepare a bowl of Glutinous Rice Water, it must be made with Aged Glutinous Rice." 0

Gao Ling was compelled by Gao Qing. Initially, she had something on her mind, but at this moment, she couldn't voice it. After asking Uncle Liang, who replied that he would prepare it, Gao Ling followed him. 0

I stood beside Gao Qing, who wore a serious expression and kept her gaze fixed on Hua. It seemed that Hua had a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth, making his breathing labored and heavy. 0

Gao Qing asked, "Hua, if you're uncomfortable, just tell your sister." With that, she reached out and pulled the cloth from Hua's mouth. Before he could react, she held his chin firmly. 0

This left Hua's mouth slightly ajar but unable to close completely. 0

Gao Qing then turned to me and said, "Hold Hua's chin for me." 0

I nodded in agreement. 0

Soon enough, Gao Ling and Uncle Liang returned with a bowl of Glutinous Rice Water. Gao Qing gestured to me, and I quickly pressed down on Hua's chin. 0

After taking the Glutinous Rice Water, Gao Qing dipped her finger into it and began to wipe Hua's forehead, trying to remove the vermilion. I still didn't understand how the vermilion had become something harmful. 0

Gao Ling and Uncle Liang watched silently from the side. 0

It seemed that Uncle Liang wasn't involved in the funeral industry; otherwise, he wouldn't be so passive compared to a junior. 0

Gao Qing patiently continued wiping Hua's forehead while asking, "Hua, tell your sister how you feel right now." 0

As I held Hua's chin, I could feel him slowly trying to close his mouth. I had no choice but to apply a bit more pressure. Despite Gao Qing's words, Hua remained silent until suddenly he burst into tears. However, since I was holding his chin, his cries came out in intermittent sobs. 0

His cries left everyone present momentarily stunned. 0

The mark of Cinnabar on his forehead was almost wiped away. 0

Gao Qing suddenly sighed in relief and said to me, "You can let go of his hand now." Following Gao Qing's words, I released my grip. Once I did, Hua's cries abruptly ceased, but his eyes widened in shock. 0

Uncle Liang asked with concern, "Qing, how is Hua doing?" 0

Gao Qing shook his head and replied, "Not too well. The Cinnabar has issues; it must have been tampered with before it was given to you. Moreover, Cinnabar can both repel evil and nurture it, depending on how you use it. However, Uncle Liang, you applied the Cinnabar right in the center of Hua's forehead, which is precisely where the Yin Tang is located. It’s possible that the Cinnabar suppressed the Yin Tang and trapped a surge of Evil Energy, so instead of helping, it had the opposite effect." 0

Uncle Liang suddenly cursed, "Damn it! This is all my fault for being so foolish! How could I trust a stranger? It's all my fault that Hua is suffering!" 0

Gao Qing reassured him, "Uncle Liang, you don't need to blame yourself; it was an honest mistake." 0

While Gao Qing spoke authoritatively, Gao Ling stood by in shock. The two were quite different in demeanor; however, Gao Ling could indeed be unreliable at times. 0

Uncle Liang sighed deeply, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes becoming more pronounced. He said, "Qing! I'm leaving Hua's situation in your hands. You must help him recover! I’m counting on you." With that, Uncle Liang prepared to bow in gratitude. 0

But he was quickly stopped by Gao Qing. 0

At that moment, I also observed Hua. After he stopped crying, he became quiet. However, I noticed that the blood vessels in his eyes were becoming increasingly prominent, as if they were turning blood-red. 0

There was still Glutinous Rice Water on his forehead. As someone who wasn't very knowledgeable about these matters, I chose not to speak up. 0

Hua then said, "Sister, Dad, I feel so uncomfortable. Can you help me untie these ropes?" His tone sounded just like any ordinary person’s. 0

I was about to remind him when my phone suddenly rang. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen; my heart immediately raced with tension because the message was from Zhang Xun. I was eager to uncover the secret behind that pattern. 0

I quickly opened the message, but its content left me puzzled. Zhang Xun replied that I was learning more and more but warned that the more I knew, the less safe I would be. 0

Although it was just a text message, reading those words sent an inexplicable chill down my spine. 0

I stared blankly for a moment before replying with a message of my own: that photo must be real and that someone had deliberately shown me these things. Was someone trying to reveal the secret behind the water surface to me? Did this secret relate to me as well? I added three words at the end: "Hope for a reply." 0

After sending the message, unease settled in my heart as I glanced at my phone screen a few times. A response wouldn’t come so quickly; I stuffed my phone back into my pocket. 0

In that brief moment, I saw Uncle Liang helping Hua untie the ropes. I took a deep breath and said, "Don't untie him." 0

Uncle Liang turned to look at me... 0

At that moment, the ropes were almost completely undone. Before Uncle Liang could respond to my words, Hua suddenly erupted, kicking Uncle Liang to the ground. He then dashed toward the door. 0

"Something's wrong!" Gao Ling shouted. 0

Without wasting a word, Gao Qing quickly chased after him. Just as Hua was about to open the door and escape, Gao Qing pressed against it with great speed. "Come help me!" Gao Qing called out. 0

I rushed over to assist Gao Qing in holding Hua against the door. Although Hua was just a boy of eight or nine years old, he was surprisingly strong; his struggles made it difficult for the two of us adults to keep him restrained. 0

"Hurry and get the rope!" I urged Gao Ling. 0

Gao Ling swiftly brought over the rope. Uncle Liang seemed stunned, momentarily lost in thought and unable to react. 0

I said to Gao Qing, "Pin him down." 0

Gao Qing acknowledged with a nod, and together we managed to force Hua onto the ground, making it easier to tie him up. Under the light, I quickly noticed that Hua's eyes had turned blood-red, as if soaked in vermilion. 0

Hua bared his teeth in a fierce grimace, looking terrifyingly savage as he mumbled something incomprehensible. 0

Gao Ling was busy tying the ropes. 0

Gao Qing kept her gaze fixed on Hua and said, "Hua, don't be afraid. It's your sister." 0

But in the next second, Hua suddenly stuck out his tongue and opened his mouth wide, looking ready to bite down. In a split second, Gao Qing reacted quickly and grabbed my hand to prevent Hua from biting me. 0

"Damn it," I exclaimed; that bite hurt enough to make me cry out. 0

Instinctively, I tried to pull my hand away, but Gao Qing said to me, "Please." Then she shouted, "Uncle Liang, hurry and bring a towel!" 0

Only then did Uncle Liang snap back to reality and rush to grab the cloth strips we had used earlier. 0

I could feel the blood flowing from my hand, and just a few seconds later, Hua, who had been struggling violently, suddenly went still. 0

We exchanged glances, and Gao Ling asked, "What happened?" 0

At that moment, I forgot to pull my hand away. Gao Qing was sweating profusely, clearly stunned. In fact, we were all thinking the same thing: had something happened to him? 0

I reached out to check Hua's breath. 0

Gao Qing asked anxiously, "What’s going on?" I replied, "He’s not dead; he must have fainted." After confirming this, I finally pulled my hand away. Once I did, I saw that the other side of my palm was covered in blood. Damn it, he really had bitten me hard enough to leave several tooth marks. 0

Hua's mouth was now smeared with my blood... 0

I headed straight to the bathroom to wash the blood off my hands. This was definitely a close call. What on earth had gotten into that brat? 0

Looking at the bite marks on my hand, I could only consider myself unlucky. 0

Just then, I suddenly caught sight of something familiar in the mirror. 0
