Living Funeral
For a moment, I truly didn't know what to do. My thoughts grew heavy as Gao Ling fainted, and surprisingly, I could hear her softly snoring on my back.
I thought to myself, Gao Ling really is something else!
We walked towards the house we had seen earlier, but something felt off. Why was Zhang Xun taking us to witness this strange wedding, which could even be described as terrifying?
Yet they wouldn't let us see the full version. Damn it, the more I thought about it, the more uneasy I felt, and my mind began to fill with wild imaginings.
A seemingly insane girl marrying a peculiar coffin.
In the end, the girl died. But why did she have to die? Was it only after death that she could be considered married to that coffin?
I racked my brain trying to understand, so I hurried to catch up with Zhang Xun.
I asked, "What secret does Coffin Street hold? What does it have to do with the year 198?"
Zhang Xun seemed a bit impatient with my questioning and replied, "Chen Fei, Jiang Changsheng is still alive. As long as he lives, none of us will have good days."
I said, "What does Jiang Changsheng have to do with this? You don't even know the secret of Coffin Street."
At that moment, Zhang Xun appeared somewhat flustered, but soon regained composure. He said, "That coffin has been enshrined there for a long time; there are no living people on Coffin Street—only ghosts."
After Zhang Xun's words fell, I suddenly felt a chill in my heart. But then I thought, how could that be? This is Taibai, despite its gloomy atmosphere.
Zhang Xun added, "They are indeed ghosts."
I said, "It's impossible. Look at this, their heels are also on the ground."
I felt that Zhang Xun was lying. My breathing became heavier as I tried to wake Gao Ling, who was on my back. I pinched Gao Ling hard.
But Gao Ling showed no reaction at all.
Damn it, Gao Ling chose this critical moment to be unresponsive. I was genuinely worried that Zhang Xun might be a problem, and based on Zhang Xun's current behavior, it seemed he really was.
My trust in Zhang Xun was fading.
Suddenly, Zhang Xun said to me, "Chen Fei, look up at this. The yin and yang are reversed, and dark clouds are overlapping. Do you think this is still just pure white?"
I looked at Zhang Xun and suddenly asked him, "Why did you bring me here?"
Zhang Xun replied, "Of course I brought you to uncover the secrets of the past. This secret has puzzled me for a long time; I have no answers. I want to bring you to find them."
I felt that I couldn't stay in Coffin Street any longer. I told Zhang Xun, "I want to leave here."
After I said that, Zhang Xun asked, "Are you really going to leave?"
I nodded seriously and said, "Yes, I don't want to stay in this cursed place. I don't care whether the people here are human or ghosts; I need to leave now."
Zhang Xun looked at me and asked, "Have you thought it through?"
I responded with a sound of affirmation and then pinched Gao Ling again with more force. Finally, Gao Ling let out a yelp and woke up, cursing, "Who the hell is pinching me?"
Once Gao Ling woke up, I set him down.
Gao Ling asked me what had just happened, as I felt a slight pain in my head.
I replied to Gao Ling that it was nothing, she had just fainted suddenly. At that moment, I was in a heated argument with Zhang Xun.
Zhang Xun remained silent.
I decided not to dwell on it any longer and called out to Gao Ling, "Let's get out of here."
Gao Ling asked, "Fei, what's going on?"
After I spoke, I started walking ahead. The moment I brushed past Zhang Xun, he suddenly grabbed my hand and said, "Are you really going to leave?"
I responded, "Are you going to stop me?"
I felt that Zhang Xun and I were on the verge of a split. He had brought me to Coffin Street but hadn't unraveled the 198-year-old mystery; instead, he led me down another strange path.
What was Jiang Changsheng? What were the Five Coffins? I felt they were all just smokescreens.
Perhaps Zhang Xun had some hidden secrets. Gao Ling then asked us, "What's going on between you two? Are you having a disagreement? We're all brothers here; just talk it out."
I told Gao Ling, "Are you coming or not? If not, you can stay."
Gao Ling paused for a few seconds and then said, "Let's go, Fei. We need to leave right now. What exactly happened between you two?"
I replied that it was nothing.
If this street was filled with ghosts, then it shouldn't be called Coffin Street; it should be named Ghost Street instead.
I took a few steps forward and then turned to look back, noticing that Zhang Xun was standing still, his silhouette appearing somewhat lonely.
In truth, I wasn't entirely sure whether Zhang Xun had set a trap and lured me into it.
As I gazed at Zhang Xun's back, Gao Ling sighed and called out, "Brother Zhang, are you coming with us?"
Gao Ling's words were essentially my own question. I waited for Zhang Xun's response; if he agreed to come along, I would definitely take him with me.
At that moment, I noticed Zhang Xun's shoulders seemed to tremble slightly.
Zhang Xun turned around and said, "You all go ahead; I'll stay behind."
His voice began to calm down, but beneath that calmness, I could still detect a hint of tremor.
I asked Zhang Xun, "Are you sure you don't want to come?"
Zhang Xun replied, "So many years have passed; I can't let this pain overshadow us forever. Chen Fei, you should hurry up. I'll uncover the remaining secrets for you."
Just as Zhang Xun finished speaking, a group of people suddenly surrounded him from behind—those same old men and women from before.
Zhang Xun sensed them too and turned to glance back.
He said, "Chen Fei, I'm not lying to you. They are all ghosts, but this street hides our shared secret."
At that moment, Gao Ling interjected, "Are those elderly men and women behind us all ghosts?"
I shifted my gaze to the group of elderly men and women. At that moment, over a hundred of them were carrying a coffin toward us.
If they are all ghosts, then what about the girl who just got married? Is she human or a ghost?
The more I thought about it, the more I felt lost in a fog, wanting to break through, but it seemed like an impossible task.
The scene before me was exactly like "Hundred Demons Carrying the Coffin."
Zhang Xun suddenly said to me, "Chen Fei, you all go ahead, but you must remember my words: stay away from those you shouldn't approach."
After Zhang Xun finished speaking, he faced the hundred demons carrying the coffin.
I shouted, "If we're leaving, let's leave together."
Zhang Xun replied, "Chen Fei, hurry up. Listen to me."
I asked, "But what about you?"
Zhang Xun said, "Don't worry about me. I won't die. Now that we've been discovered, you must go. Gao Ling, take him away."
The Hundred Demons Carrying the Coffin were getting closer and closer. Gao Ling pulled me and said, "Fei, let's go." Her tone was becoming urgent.
I stared at Zhang Xun's back, and in the next moment, he resolutely charged toward the hundred demons. Suddenly, I felt this scene was somewhat familiar.
A thought flashed through my mind: Zhang Xun shouldn't die.
Gao Ling tugged at me, and I said to her, "Let go of me."
Gao Ling replied, "Fei, this isn't the time for impulsiveness. Brother Zhang is like this for a reason; he must have his own plan."
I still told Gao Ling to step aside.
I felt that I couldn't let Zhang Xun die like this. I am Yin-Yang Fate; my blood can restrain the hundred demons.
But just then, the woman in red appeared. She said to me, "Chen Lang, hurry up! If you don't leave now, it will be too late."
The woman in red continued, "Chen Lang, he won't die. He is immune to the hundred demons; his body is that of a corpse. He is essentially a living dead man—if he isn't truly alive, how can he die?"
Suddenly, the woman in red said this to me.
I asked if it was really true. She replied, "Chen Lang, I wouldn't lie to you."
Gao Ling also urged me, "Let's go."
At that moment, Zhang Xun was already engulfed by the hundred demons. I took one last look and ultimately decided to turn away. Seeing that I was willing to leave, Gao Ling said she would go start the car.
As Gao Ling and I drove away from there, I heard Zhang Xun's voice in my ears. He calmly said, "Chen Fei, when I return, I will bring all the answers back to you."
