I instinctively blurted out the words, though I felt a chill inside me as I did. I wasn't familiar with the person in front of me; it was just that when I looked up and saw him, I inexplicably asked, "What are you doing here?" 0

Because the person was, damn it, a corpse—specifically, the very corpse I had stumbled upon earlier. This was truly unexpected! 0

At that moment, my heart raced. We were only about thirty centimeters apart. 0

Our eyes met, and the worst part was that there were maggots crawling on his face, making me feel utterly nauseated. 0

This guy was probably a fake corpse. My heart sank as I chuckled nervously. Finally, without hesitation, I turned and ran. Damn it, I had really stumbled into a den of ghosts. 0

I sprinted toward Zhang Family Village, but of course, I had no intention of actually entering it. After running for about ten minutes, feeling like no one was following me, I finally stopped. 0

I gasped for breath, cursing under my breath as the flashlight beam illuminated the path ahead. I thought to myself how unlucky I was; it felt like wolves were in front and tigers behind me—my situation was dire. 0

I pulled out a cigarette and lit it, hoping to calm my nerves. This place was truly terrifying. 0

It was early morning now. I took out my phone to call Fatty Zhang, but the call didn’t go through—not because he wasn’t answering, but because the signal in this cursed place was terrible. 0

Someone must have plotted against me, but aside from Fatty Zhang, no one else knew I was coming to Zhang Family Village. Could it be that Fatty Zhang was behind this? My mind began to race with wild thoughts. Fortunately, the fake corpse hadn’t followed me. 0

I decided to rest in place while waiting for Fatty Zhang to arrive. If he took more than half an hour, then Fatty Zhang definitely wasn’t a good person. 0

I quickly finished my cigarette. Just then, a cold wind blew by, sending chills down my spine. I crouched down and looked around cautiously until I felt safe enough to sit. 0

Damn it! There was still pain at the tip of my tongue; I inhaled sharply. This trip to Zhang Family Village had indeed brought about many strange occurrences. 0

The figure lying on the bed resembled Zhang Xun so much that it made my head spin with confusion about what had happened back then. 0

It felt as if everything eerie from that year had converged, and decades later, I had collided with it all. What I had crashed into was not just evil, but great evil. 0

I sat on the ground, my mood slightly easing. I looked at my phone screen, repeatedly trying to call Zhang, the chubby guy, but none of the calls went through. 0

Forget it, I thought. It's been over twenty minutes now, yet Zhang still hadn't shown up. A sudden bad feeling washed over me; I was about to be set up by him again. 0

I glanced around and wondered if I should try to walk outside. Maybe this time I could actually get out. In such a bizarre environment, I could only give myself mental encouragement. 0

Just as I prepared to stand up, a hand pressed down on my shoulder. 0

Damn! I was startled and quickly asked, "Who are you?" 0

At that moment, I had a hunch about who was behind me; it was probably that person from before. But where had he come from? I hadn’t seen him approach from the road. My thoughts paused for a moment before I quickly considered the possibility that he might have crept out from the woods! 0

Thinking about it made it seem quite likely. Damn it! I had been careless, only paying attention to the road and not noticing the forest behind me. 0

At that moment, my heart sank again. His hand gripped my shoulder tightly, and I could feel his strength. 0

Strangely enough, he hadn’t made any aggressive moves yet. Wasn’t he supposed to be dead? As soon as that thought crossed my mind, I quickly dismissed it; there was no way a living person could have a face like his. Besides, when he got close, I caught a faint decaying smell. 0

I felt conflicted inside. After asking that question, he didn’t respond. 0

I had no choice but to ask again, “What do you want? Are you alive or dead?” Meanwhile, I was calculating how to get rid of this guy. 0

I tried to move forward, but his grip on my shoulder tightened painfully. Damn it! I turned around abruptly and felt blood welling up in my mouth. 0

I was ready to spit it out when he said to me, “The people outside can’t come in now, and those inside can’t get out. If you want to survive, listen to me now; you still have a glimmer of hope.” 0

I was facing him, both of us holding back a mouthful of blood. After hearing his words, I couldn't hold it in any longer and spat it all over his face. 0

However, he didn't react strangely at all. He neither screamed nor cursed; he just stood there in a daze. Then he wiped the blood I had spat out with his hand, along with the maggots crawling on his face. I could vaguely make out his features, though they were not very clear. 0

But one thing was certain: he was alive. Yet why would a living person pretend to be dead, especially in such a grotesque manner? He didn't seem to care about the maggots on his face or the stench of decay emanating from him. I couldn't help but wonder how he managed to pull this off. 0

This guy had an incredible tolerance for discomfort, but why did he trip me? 0

After he finished speaking, I was momentarily stunned. I finally said, "You are alive!" 0

He replied, "I never claimed to be dead." 0

I asked him why he pretended to be dead and tripped me. He looked at me and wiped his face again, making his features even more distinct. 0

He said, "I just wanted to give you a warning, to let you know when to back off. I didn't expect you to be so stubborn." 0

I thought to myself... that reason was quite flimsy. 0

I asked him who he was, but he told me not to worry about that. This guy was truly bizarre; he was the strangest person I had ever encountered. After a pause, he added, "But I didn't expect you to still be alive." 0

I replied, "It's not surprising that I'm still alive." He fell silent, and my curiosity about him grew. I wanted to know how he managed to look so convincingly dead. 0

Then he quickly spoke up, "I like sleeping with the dead." 0

I was left speechless. 0

Not wanting to pursue that line of questioning any further, he said to me, "Let's go back." He started walking toward the direction of Zhang Family Village. I hesitated; I wasn't keen on going back with him. Besides, I knew him well enough to realize that if he decided to harm me later on, I'd be in serious trouble. 0

Zhang Family Village is not a good place to go, and I remained still. 0

He turned to look at me and said, "Aren't you going in?" 0

I shook my head and replied, "I'm waiting for someone. I can't go in right now." He stared at me, and a foul smell of decay emanated from him. Perhaps it was true what he said; he liked to sleep with the dead. That would explain the persistent stench. 0

He continued, "You really won't go in? Right now, during the transition between Yin and Yang, when Yin Qi is at its strongest, if we go in now, we might even catch a corpse with spiritual awareness and find out what happened back then." 0

After he finished speaking, I was stunned for a few seconds. I asked, "Who exactly are you?" 0

He replied, "Who I am isn't important; what's important is who you are. Once you step inside, this place has been set up with a formation. From the moment you enter, you've been calculated against." 0

His words were somewhat cryptic. I took a deep breath and asked, "Do you really know what happened in Zhang Family Village all those years ago?" 0

The man looked disheveled; I couldn't make out his features or determine his age. 0

I was contemplating whether to trust him. Half an hour had passed, and there was still no news from Fat Zhang. After a moment of silence, I said to him, "Let me make a phone call." 0

He gestured for me to proceed. As I dialed, I thought to myself that Fat Zhang should pick up quickly. But in the end, I was disappointed; my phone still couldn't connect. 0

After putting my phone away, he suddenly grabbed my wrist and said earnestly, "Chen Fei, trust me just this once; I won't let you down." His tone was sincere. However, his words left me stunned for a few seconds because he knew my name, yet we were strangers. How could he possibly know who I was? 0
