Living Funeral
Her body was stiff, frozen in the position of childbirth.
Gao Ling called out at that moment. I told Gao Ling not to shout and to call the hospital director to come take a look. This pregnant woman was clearly dead.
"I can't make that call; I don't get along with the hospital director," Gao Ling said. "Whoever makes the call, just be quick about it." Zhao Fan agreed and stepped up to make the call. I knew well that the hospital didn't want this situation escalating to the police; otherwise, they would have reported it already.
Gao Ling and I approached the body for a closer inspection. We noticed that the pregnant woman's mouth was open, revealing a row of pristine white teeth, but her expression was one of agony, as if she had suddenly died during childbirth.
I thought to myself, could she have died from the pain? But I quickly dismissed that notion; in all my life, I had never heard of anyone dying from childbirth pain.
Moreover, looking at her still round belly, could it be that the child hadn't been born yet?
Curiosity piqued, I reached out to check for breath at her nose and ultimately confirmed that she was indeed dead. However, since we were in a hospital, I felt hesitant to act further.
After Zhao Fan made a phone call, about five minutes later, a group of people rushed in—two in white coats and three nurses. The doctor instructed us to step outside.
We dared not linger there and waited for about ten more minutes when a portly man approached us. He was running in short bursts, moving slowly but already panting heavily.
Upon seeing this overweight man, Zhao Fan hurried forward and called out, "Director Ouyang!"
At that moment, Director Ouyang's chubby face was flushed and nearly ashen. He asked, "What’s going on inside?"
I replied, "The doctor is trying to save her, but she definitely won't make it."
Hearing my words, Director Ouyang spat and told me not to talk nonsense at the door of the ward; it was bad luck.
I listened to Director Ouyang and fell silent.
Zhao Fan said, "Director Ouyang, when we entered the delivery room, we found a pregnant woman covered in blood inside. This matter is not our responsibility."
Director Ouyang replied, "It has nothing to do with you, but the delivery room is always locked when no one is giving birth. I just gave you the key not long ago. How did that pregnant woman get in?" At this point, Director Ouyang's voice grew heavier. Indeed, the situation was strange; after all, this was on the fourth floor. The only way for a pregnant woman to enter would be to climb over the wall, which was illogical! A woman about to give birth wouldn't risk her life by climbing into a delivery room.
It was truly bizarre!
After saying this, Director Ouyang adjusted his glasses and asked, "Master Zhao, what do you think?"
Zhao Fan pondered for a moment before responding, "Director Ouyang, I believe this might be related to something supernatural; there must be something unclean in this hospital."
Director Ouyang said, "Master Zhao, you make a valid point. Then I will leave the next steps to you."
Zhao Fan replied, "You're too kind."
After waiting for a few minutes, a nurse walked out of the ward, and from her expression, it was clear that things were not good.
One of the nurses was even crying.
Director Ouyang asked, "What happened?"
The doctor said, "Director, the woman has died and the fetus is missing."
"What?" I exclaimed.
The doctor looked at me in surprise; my emotions were slightly agitated. I continued, "Wasn't her belly swollen? How could the baby be gone?"
The doctor continued, "There is still gas in her abdomen. Although we don't know how it got there, it's certain that the pregnant woman is dead."
Perhaps accustomed to life and death, the doctor stood up with a blank expression.
However, the nurse was crying. Director Ouyang asked her why she was crying. The nurse replied that the pregnant woman inside had died a terrible death; the place where she was giving birth had been torn apart.
It was truly brutal! I couldn't help but mutter this under my breath. Director Ouyang told the nurse to stop crying and then dismissed everyone, warning them not to spread rumors or report this incident to the police, as if nothing had happened.
The nurse who had been scared to tears agreed with a choked voice.
Listening to Director Ouyang's words, I realized he had no intention of calling the police. He said, "I would like a few of you to go in and see if there are any demons or monsters causing trouble in this hospital."
Zhao Fan responded affirmatively, and we re-entered the room. At this point, after some resuscitation efforts, the pregnant woman's body still looked as it had before, even her hand remained tightly grasping the bloody umbilical cord.
Looking at that bloody umbilical cord made me feel uneasy. The fetus was gone—had it been born and taken away, or was it removed directly from her body?
As I stared at the bloody umbilical cord, a gruesome image flashed through my mind: perhaps the pregnant woman had fought with the murderer for her child, which was why she clung so tightly to the cord. But in the end, she had failed, and her baby was taken away. The poor woman died tragically on the bed.
The scene was bloody; this murderer was twisted.
I walked toward the window of the ward only to find there were no windows at all. Typically, delivery rooms are required to be sterile, so it made sense that there were no windows.
But if there were no windows, how did the pregnant woman get in?
Could it be that someone led her inside? Since there were no windows, it was impossible for her to have climbed in from outside. The only possibility left was that someone used a key to open the delivery room door and then trapped her inside. That’s when this series of events unfolded.
The Yin Qi in this room felt heavy. After a while of not finding anything, I decided to leave.
Zhao Fan and Gao Ling had just come out after a brief discussion. When Director Ouyang saw me, he asked, "Did you find anything?"
I shook my head and replied that I hadn’t. Then I asked, "Who has the keys to the delivery room?"
Director Ouyang said, "I have them, along with the on-duty nurses and doctors." I acknowledged this with a sound and didn’t press further.
At this point, it was already past ten o'clock, and soon Gao Ling and Zhao Fan emerged from inside.
They approached me and asked, "Fei, did you notice anything unusual?"
I shook my head, but Zhao Fan said, "I found signs that the corpse might have been possessed by a ghost."
Upon hearing this from Zhao Fan, I inquired, "Anything else?" Zhao Fan replied that there wasn’t. I then turned to Gao Ling and asked, "What about you?"
Gao Ling said, "I found this." With that, she handed me a strand of hair. I asked, "Is there something wrong with this hair?"
Gao Ling replied, "It likely belongs to the murderer."
I was at a loss for words…
Of course, I couldn’t dismiss it either; anything was possible until we caught the culprit. Just then, the woman in red appeared beside me and said, "Chen Lang, I found the child's body."
Upon hearing her words, I hurriedly followed her. Before long, we arrived at a trash bin downstairs. I opened it and discovered a dead baby inside.
Shining my flashlight into the bin revealed a bloodied infant curled up inside; its eyes were still closed. It was clear that this was a newborn.
I couldn't help but feel nauseous; this was just too horrifying.
I wanted to call the police, but then I thought it wouldn't be of much use, so I held back. At that moment, Director Ouyang came running down again. I said to him, "Check the surveillance footage."
Director Ouyang quickly agreed and led us to the monitoring room. I directly instructed, "Pull up the footage from the location of the trash can just now."
The staff quickly retrieved the footage, and I told them to set the time to Ten O'Clock.
At ten o'clock, there was no one near the trash can since the area was quite secluded. It was only a little after ten when we heard a child's cries.
Director Ouyang exclaimed excitedly, "Look, the child is right there!"
I suppressed my excitement and continued watching. A person in a Black Coat was holding a child, but I couldn't see the face of the person in the Black Coat.
But goodness, wearing so much in this heat!
The figure squatted next to the trash can with the child, everything was silent except for the child's heartbreaking cries. I stared intently, hoping this person would turn around so I could see who the Murderer was. Just as that thought crossed my mind, he seemed to sense it and quickly turned his head towards me. At that moment, I was completely stunned.
What I saw made my blood run cold: he was biting into the baby with blood all over his mouth, and most terrifying of all—his face had no features…
