Living Funeral
At that moment, we were dealing with the corpse, and this guy still had the nerve to call me with some nonsensical words. I said to Zhang, "I have something very important right now, so please don't call me." But Zhang replied, "Chen Fei, what I have going on here is more important than your issues. Remember, something happened at Mountain Lodge."
Before he could finish, I pressed the hang-up button.
Gao Qing looked at me in surprise and said, "I want that corpse."
I was taken aback.
I asked Gao Qing, "What do you want with the corpse?"
Gao Ling chimed in, "Gao Qing, what do you need that corpse for? Is it useful to you?"
Gao Qing sighed and replied, "It's not useful to me, but it is to you, Gao Ling. There are some things you don't understand; can you just keep quiet?"
Gao Ling was momentarily speechless. I said, "What if I want the corpse too?"
Gao Qing stared at me, shining the flashlight into my eyes. I turned my head to avoid the blinding light. After a few seconds of staring, Gao Qing said, "What's your reason?"
I was at a loss for words; I didn't know what to say. The matter of the Taoist was definitely not something I could reveal. I felt torn; I wanted the corpse but didn't know how to express it. Gao Qing asked me, "Is it really impossible?"
Taking a deep breath, I replied, "Anyway, this corpse is very important to me."
"It's even more important to me," Gao Qing said.
At this point, things had become quite awkward. We all knew each other well enough; were we really going to fall out over a corpse?
I had no response because I didn’t know what else to say. Zhao Fan interjected, "It's just a corpse; there's no need to ruin our friendship over it."
Zhang Xun said, "This corpse is quite special."
A complete and intact corpse is certainly special. I took a deep breath and Gao Ling suggested, "Why don't we take the corpse out and let everyone use it together?"
Gao Qing quickly shot a glare at Gao Ling, looking at him as if he were foolish. Gao Ling, unable to withstand that gaze, retorted, "Gao Qing, what do you mean by that? I'm your brother too. Why are you looking at me like that?"
Gao Qing replied, "If you weren't my brother, I wouldn't want this corpse at all."
I held a knife in my hand; all I needed to do was pierce the center of the corpse's forehead to create a blood hole. The Taoist's situation was really dire, and time was of the essence.
However, the current situation was indeed precarious.
Gao Ling said, "What does this have to do with me?"
Gao Qing did not respond to Gao Ling but continued to address me, saying, "I can give you money, Chen Fei."
I replied that it wasn't possible.
Gao Qing then asked if that meant there was no room for negotiation.
Damn it, did that tone suggest he was about to make a move? If it came to blows, I really wasn't a match for Gao Qing. But with Zhang Xun here, I didn't need to be too afraid. However, just as Gao Qing finished speaking, something unexpected happened: the previously quiet corpse suddenly twitched.
I was close enough to see it clearly.
I quickly said, "The corpse is about to rise." I didn't shout it out loud; my voice escalated from slow to urgent. Everyone's gaze fell into the coffin as they watched the corpse shift slightly. Gao Qing's expression changed immediately as he muttered, "Is it really coming back to life?" It was a question.
Gao Ling, however, remarked, "Maybe this guy was just sleeping and has now woken up."
It was mysterious, but it was definitely not sleep. If it were sleep, the coffin would have just crashed down from a height, making such a loud noise that the corpse inside wouldn't have remained undisturbed. So it must be dead.
We all stared at the corpse in the coffin. Although it was moving slightly, its eyes remained closed, and it did not crawl out of the coffin.
"Is it a fake corpse? Brother Fei, I don't think so. It looks more like there's something else underneath the corpse that's moving."
It seemed that way!
I gathered my courage and stepped forward again, shining my flashlight into the coffin. As my gaze fell inside, I saw a head. I cursed under my breath and immediately stepped back—damn it, it was a snake.
It was currently flicking its tongue.
"Is there a snake?" Gao Ling shouted. I replied, "Yes, it's a large golden snake with a triangular head." I relayed what I saw.
"A golden snake?"
I had no idea what kind of snake it was; all I knew was that there was a snake in the coffin. Gao Ling reassured me, "Fei, you don't need to worry. We already applied Realgar Powder; snakes are most afraid of that."
Gao Ling was right; with Realgar Powder applied, what could we fear? But we soon realized we were wrong.
Because there was not just one snake. From the hole where the coffin had fallen, more snakes were continuously dropping down. I shone my flashlight upward, illuminating the situation clearly—the snakes were clinging to the edges of the hole and falling directly into the coffin.
More and more snakes.
"Where are all these snakes coming from?" Gao Ling asked. We stood frozen for a moment as the snakes that had fallen outside the coffin began to crawl toward us. I thought to myself that there was no time to waste; if we didn't act on the corpse now, we might miss our chance.
As long as I could pierce a blood hole in the corpse's head, that would be enough.
I took a deep breath and said to Gao Qing, "I'm sorry." Without waiting for Gao Qing to react, I rushed toward the coffin. Damn it, whatever snake it is, there was one lying on the corpse's forehead. Without hesitation, I grabbed the snake and threw it away.
Then I plunged a knife directly into the corpse's third eye. Blood gushed out immediately, splattering onto my face. After I finished, I pulled the knife out and shouted into the air, "Daoist, I've done my part; now it's up to you."
More and more snakes appeared. Zhang Xun said to me, "Chen Fei, let's go; the yin and yang are out of balance."
At that moment, there was a loud bang as the Wine Jar began to shatter. This time, it exploded completely. The corpses that had fallen earlier started to rise again, and the scene instantly turned terrifying.
I felt a tingling sensation on my scalp.
Gao Qing ran to the edge of the coffin, glanced at it, and said to me, "Chen Fei, what did you just do?"
I replied to Gao Qing, "I didn't do anything."
Gao Qing insisted, "Chen Fei, do you know how important this corpse is to Gao Ling?"
"Gao Ling," I murmured. But how was I supposed to know how important it was? The corpse was approaching us, and there were so many snakes; it was getting more dangerous by the second. Gao Qing stood by the coffin without any intention of backing down.
At this point, the corpse inside the coffin was almost completely overwhelmed by snakes. I told Gao Qing, "We can't take this corpse with us."
Gao Qing was smart enough to understand what I meant.
Gao Ling shouted, "What are you all standing around for? Hurry up!"
Zhang Xun grabbed my hand and started pulling me outside. Seeing that Gao Qing wasn't moving, Gao Ling rushed over and hugged her tightly as they headed for the exit. Gao Qing struggled and said to Gao Ling, "Let go of me."
Gao Ling replied firmly, "No way! You're my sister; I can't let you get hurt here."
Zhao Fan was the first to retreat, and we quickly followed. I thought to myself, "Daoist, it's up to you now." At that moment, I saw the Daoist appear and head towards the coffin.
"Damn it," I muttered, not caring anymore.
Gao Qing said, "Let go of me."
Gao Ling replied, "Not letting go."
Holding onto Gao Qing, we made our way into the passage. It was only after we reached the exit that Gao Ling finally released her grip. We crawled up, followed by a multitude of corpses—these were all fake corpses. There were about a hundred of them behind us! Although they weren't very strong individually, the sheer number was terrifying when you thought about it.
After we returned to the previous room, I used a wooden board to cover the entrance. At that moment, Zhao Fan said, "The door is locked from the outside."
What the hell? Who was the idiot that did this? Down below, I could already hear corpses pushing against the wooden board, pressing down hard. I turned to Zhao Fan and said, "Kick the door!"
After Zhao Fan kicked it a few times, he said it couldn't be opened.
I was speechless.
"Damn it," I thought. Can a living person really die from being trapped like this? Just then, a corpse's hand broke through the wooden board and reached out. Seeing this, I stomped down on that withered hand, but in the next second, three or four more hands pierced through the board and emerged.
