Living Funeral
I stared at him, and he stared back at me.
I felt a sense of unease in my heart.
"Wu Luo" spoke first, saying, "Dad, this is Fei." Then he turned to me and added, "Fei, this is my dad." Hearing this introduction made me feel increasingly awkward.
After the introduction, I didn’t say anything because I didn’t know what to say.
"Wu Luo's Father" suddenly broke into a smile and said, "Guests are always welcome. Fei, from now on, consider this place your home. Don't be shy."
I thought: …
Can this ghostly place really be called home?
I asked, "What about the two people who came up with me?"
"Wu Luo's Father" stared at me, his wrinkles running vertically down his face, giving off a strange impression.
He looked bewildered, as if he hadn’t understood my words.
So I repeated myself, but at that moment, "Wu Luo" tugged at my hand and shook his head slightly, as if signaling me not to speak.
"Dad, if there’s nothing else, we’ll be going out."
"Wu Luo's Father" suddenly said, "Luo, the coffin in the back mountain was restless last night. Go take care of it."
"Wu Luo" responded, and I was stunned for a few seconds.
A restless coffin? What does that mean? I came here from a coffin as well; could it be that I am already dead and this is the Underworld?
Was "Wuluo's Father" the King of Hell? My mind raced with thoughts as "Wu Luo" grabbed my hand and led me outside.
I asked "Wu Luo," "What on earth is this place?"
"Wu Luo" replied, "No matter what this place is, you are here now, so I must tell you a few things. First, do not go out the main door. Second, do not enter the courtyard on the left. Third, it’s best not to drink any soup offered by strangers at night."
"What the hell?" I asked.
"Wu Luo" looked at me seriously and said, "Just listen to me."
I said, "Can you at least tell me what this place really is?"
"Mountain Lodge."
I was taken aback. I knew this was Mountain Lodge; before coming here, Fat Zhang had warned me that there were ghosts at Mountain Lodge. Could it be related to all of this?
"Wu Luo" continued, "Now come with me; I'll take you to where you can sleep."
I felt completely lost, my expression blank with confusion. Everything seemed hazy. I glanced into the alley on the left; the man with the black umbrella who had entered from outside had gone in there.
I couldn't go that way.
The soup at night is not drinkable, but I have already had some.
Zhang Xun and the chubby Zhang have also drunk it.
Wu Luo said, "Fei, come with me." With that, Wu Luo walked ahead, and I followed closely behind. I had already figured out the way to the main door.
Now, only the courtyard on the left remained unexplored.
The coffin that Zhang Xun and I had pushed off the cliff seemed not to be recognized by Wu Luo's father either.
Even now, I doubted whether I was dreaming or if I had died, so I pinched myself again, and the pain was clear and vivid.
Damn it, having pain didn't feel like a dream.
I followed Wu Luo to a wooden building. She pushed the door open and led me upstairs, then said, "This is your room."
After she opened the door to the room, she didn’t enter first.
I stepped inside before she followed. She said, "I live in the room below yours. If you need anything, you can find me."
I replied with a simple "Okay."
Wu Luo said that if there was nothing else, she would leave. I nodded, and as Wu Luo was leaving, she reminded me to remember her words: never do anything you shouldn't do.
I had no response. After Wu Luo left, I immediately took out my phone, but there was still no signal.
The clock showed three-thirty in the afternoon. My previous message had not been sent successfully, so I resent it. I felt a bit stuffy in this room.
I left the room and went downstairs. I intended to call for Wu Luo, but he was not in his room.
I began to walk around, taking in my surroundings, and soon found myself back in the alley to my left from before.
I glanced into the alley a few times. Honestly, Wu Luo's words had made an impression on me, and at that moment, I really didn't dare to rush in.
After a few glances, suddenly a hand touched my shoulder, startling me. I turned to see a person holding a black umbrella standing behind me. His face looked as if he had eaten arsenic—pale and ghostly.
I asked, "What do you want?"
As I spoke, I took a step forward. He smiled at me and said, "Don't be afraid; I won't do anything to you."
I replied, "Who are you?"
He chuckled and said, "Of course, I'm a good person. But aside from me, there might not be any good people here."
I didn't believe him; his smile only made me feel more uneasy. I stared at him with a heavy sense of vigilance.
He said to me, "It seems you don't believe me! I'm a Ghost Hunter from Zhongnan Mountain. My name is Yang Xiu."
"Yang Xiu? Zhong Nanshan?"
I looked at him suspiciously. He continued, "I can see that you carry a lot of Yin Qi. Have you been on a ghost ship before? Are there others who came with you?"
Upon hearing the latter part of his statement, I quickly replied, "Yes, two others came with me. Do you know where the Daoist went?"
I was overly concerned, so I asked directly.
"I've never heard of the first part of that sentence. A shadow boat? There's no water here; what shadow boat am I supposed to take?"
However, I did wake up in a coffin that had appeared here overnight.
Yang Xiu said, "Is there a fat guy and a skinny guy?"
Upon hearing Yang Xiu's words, my emotions immediately surged. I asked, "Have you seen them?"
Yang Xiu replied that he had crossed paths with them but hadn't spoken. A smile appeared on his face, and I hurriedly asked, "Where did you see them?"
Just as Yang Xiu was about to speak, Wu Luo suddenly grabbed my hand and said, "Don't talk to him."
At that moment, Yang Xiu's smile faded as he called out to Witch Sister.
But Wu Luo didn't give him a pleasant look and said directly, "If I see you talking to him, you know what the consequences will be."
Yang Xiu's expression changed instantly, and he forced a smile, saying, "I wouldn't dare. I definitely won't next time, Witch Sister."
After Yang Xiu finished speaking, he left in a hurry. I called out to him, wanting him to continue the conversation, but he just held up his black umbrella and walked away.
Is this really the Ghost Hunter from Zhongnan Mountain? Is this all there is to it?
Wu Luo turned to me and said, "Fei, it's best if you don't interact with him or talk to him."
"Why?"
Wu Luo replied, "Because he is a Yin Person."
"A Yin Person? What kind of Yin Person? Isn't he a Ghost Hunter from Zhongnan Mountain?"
"Is he like you?"
I nodded, and after hearing my response, Wu Luo said, "I understand now. If you encounter him in the future, don't pay him any mind. Remember, no matter what he says, don't believe him."
With that, Wu Luo left.
Damn it, who should I trust? This Yang Xiu had news about a fat guy and Zhang Xun, and they had even met once. Does that mean both of them are still alive?
I stood at the entrance of the alley and called out for Yang Xiu, but there was no answer from inside.
Reluctantly, I returned to my room. Night fell quickly, and I sat restlessly in my room, unable to comprehend what kind of place this was.
Why had a group of inexplicable people suddenly appeared?
The clock showed around seven in the evening. I stepped out of my room again, feeling that Zhang Xun and the others should still be alive, likely hiding somewhere in this house.
After going downstairs, I walked outside. The house was illuminated by lanterns that emitted a red glow.
Wu Luo's room was dark. I took out my phone and held it high to see if I could find a signal.
I circled around the house but didn’t find Zhang Xun or anyone else. Just then, someone approached me, carrying a lantern.
At the same time, my phone suddenly vibrated. Damn, I felt an overwhelming rush of joy. I was just about to check my phone when the newcomer said to me, "Follow me; I'll take you to find someone."
I looked up and saw it was Yang Xiu. Yang Xiu wasn’t holding an umbrella this time, but his face was still incredibly pale. He said to me, "Haven't you been looking for someone?"
I asked, "Do you know where Daoist is?"
"Just follow me."
Yang Xiu led me to the entrance of a narrow alley on the left and then said, "The White Witch Sister is here. I can’t say much, but those two people you’re looking for are inside."
I looked at Yang Xiu suspiciously and asked, "Is that true?"
Yang Xiu replied, "Do I have any reason to lie to you? What can you give me? I'm helping you out of goodwill; if you don’t believe me, that’s your choice."
I said, "Why are you in such a hurry? I believe you."
"Alright then, before we go in, drink some water first." He handed me a bottle. "This water is made from Yellow Talisman; it wards off evil."
