Living Funeral
Before Wu Luo could speak, the maid interjected, "Last night, you fell under Yang Xiu's spell and he drained your blood. Now, all the blood in your body is that of the dead. You will never be able to leave this place for the rest of your life."
Upon hearing this, I was bewildered. What did that mean?
Could it be true that Yang Xiu had really drained all my blood? No way, could it be that eerie?
Panic set in as I felt a dryness in my lips. After a moment of confusion, I asked, "So am I dead or alive right now?"
I cursed inwardly at that bastard Yang Xiu for actually drinking my blood. No wonder I felt so weak.
Wu Luo replied, "Right now, you are alive. However, if you don't retrieve your blood, you will become a corpse. If you turn into a corpse, you will never be able to leave this place."
The maid added, "At that point, you'll only be able to stay in the left courtyard." Her expression changed.
So the dead had to live in the left courtyard? Was Yang Xiu a corpse then?
That bastard Yang Xiu had truly tricked me; I had fallen for his scheme and it cost me my life. Damn it! I continued to ask Wu Luo, "Where is Yang Xiu now?"
Wu Luo said, "We don't know where he went, but he should have gone down the mountain."
"Isn't that the end for me?" Fear began to creep into my heart. Everyone fears death, and I was no exception. The thought of losing my life made me uneasy, and I still couldn't comprehend what kind of hellish place this was.
Damn it! The idea of being stuck in this ghostly place for eternity sent chills down my spine.
At that moment, Wu Luo said to me, "Don't worry too much."
"Damn it, how can I not be anxious? This is a matter of life and death," Wu Luo said, clearly distressed. "He won't be able to go down like this; he will definitely come back."
Hearing this, I felt a surge of hope. I turned to Wu Luo and asked, "Can you help me?"
Wu Luo responded with a slight nod.
However, her maid interjected, "Sister, you can't help him! If Master finds out, it will be the end!"
Fearing that Wu Luo might change her mind, I quickly insisted, "You promised me; please don't go back on your word!"
Wu Luo reassured me, "Don't worry. Once I, Wu Luo, make a promise, I will never go back on it." She handed me a bowl of soup that smelled medicinal. "Drink this medicine and then rest for a while," she instructed.
I hesitated and asked, "What kind of medicine is this?"
The maid snapped back, "Why do you have so many questions? If you don't want to die here, just drink the soup!" I glanced suspiciously at Wu Luo and her maid, feeling confused about what to do. Eventually, I accepted the bowl from Wu Luo and drank it.
After finishing the soup, Wu Luo said to me, "Fei, just rest easy. I'll take care of everything from here."
I nodded in response as Wu Luo left the room. Lying on the bed, I took out my phone and noticed several missed calls from Zhang Xun and Fatty Zhang. I intended to call them back but realized my phone had no signal.
After clearing the missed call notifications, I saw an unread message. Quickly opening it, I read: "Chen Fei, where are you now? Please reply to this message. Remember not to trust anyone's words; everything they say here is a lie."
That was all the message contained. I wanted to reply but suddenly felt drowsy. Before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up again, it was dark outside. As I opened my eyes, I saw Wu Luo sitting beside me.
"Damn, it's really on time," I thought, feeling my head spinning a bit, along with a dull ache.
I asked, "Has Yang Xiu come back yet?"
Wu Luo replied, "Not yet, but he will definitely return. That's for sure."
I said, "Hurry up, I feel unwell. Am I going to die?"
Wu Luo responded, "Your condition is not good right now. Fei, drink another bowl of the medicinal soup." Wu Luo handed me a bowl of dark soup, and I stared at it blankly for a few seconds.
Wu Luo urged me, "You need to drink it. It can turn the stagnant blood in your body into vitality. This way, you can live a little longer."
My head was spinning, and I struggled to think clearly. The more I tried, the worse it got. Looking at the bowl of murky soup in my hands, I didn't hesitate and drank it down. My subconscious told me that drinking this soup would save me.
So I lifted the bowl and drank. After finishing the soup, I felt drowsy again and soon fell asleep. This cycle continued for three or four days, mostly spent in bed.
Each time I woke up, I would ask if Yang Xiu had returned yet, then drink the soup and go back to sleep.
Finally, on the fifth night, the smell of the medicinal soup made me want to vomit. When Wu Luo handed it to me again, I said, "Can I skip it this time?"
Wu Luo replied, "Fei, you just need to hold on for two more days."
At that moment, I was utterly repulsed by the taste of the soup and didn't want to drink it anymore. I said, "I want to go outside and take a look."
Wu Luo asked, "What do you want to see outside?"
I just want to go outside and take a look. Don't stop me. I still feel quite dizzy. I sat up in bed, and when my feet hit the floor, I thought, Damn it, I feel like I could fly.
My feet felt light, as if I wasn't even touching the ground. After a few steps, I stumbled.
I asked, "Has Yang Xiu come back yet?"
Wu Luo replied, "Not yet, but don't worry; he won't be coming down the mountain."
Hearing that made me feel uneasy. I suddenly questioned, "Are you lying to me?"
The Maid noticed my tone and said, "What are you talking about? My sister is helping you out of kindness, and you think she's deceiving you? If it weren't for her saving you, you'd probably be dead by now."
Damn, why does this feel so strange?
It was as if the whole world had changed. Wu Luo told the Maid not to speak carelessly.
I walked toward the door. With each step, it felt like I might fall. As I descended the stairs, Wu Luo quickly caught up with me, holding that bowl of medicinal soup. She said, "Fei, why don't you drink this before going down? How about that?"
This time, I absolutely refused to drink it. That soup made me feel completely dazed.
I felt heavy-headed; it was an uncomfortable sensation. I wanted to find Yang Xiu. Leaning on the railing, I continued down the stairs, but halfway down, I started to vomit—only it was bright red blood.
Blood splattered everywhere; my head felt like it was going to explode. Looking at the vivid crimson liquid only heightened my sense of unease. When Wu Luo saw me vomiting, she rushed over and asked what was wrong.
At that moment, my face must have been pale as a ghost. I glanced at Wu Luo; her expression had also turned grim. She explained, "Fei, this is just the medicine taking effect. You're expelling the stagnant blood; you'll start feeling better soon."
I asked, "If I spit out blood, won't I be out of blood?" Just then, I coughed up a mouthful of blood.
My stomach felt uneasy, and I was feeling terrible. Wu Luo's tone became urgent as he said, "Fei, you should drink the medicine first. Otherwise, you'll be in danger."
For some reason, I felt a strong aversion to the medicine. I directly overturned the bowl that Wu Luo handed me, spilling the concoction on the floor and shattering the bowl. "I don't want to drink it right now," I said, wiping the blood from the corner of my mouth.
Wu Luo suddenly called my name. I turned to look at him.
His expression had changed; it was no longer as gentle as before. He said to me, "Fei, I'm going to get you some medicine right now. If you refuse to drink it later, I'll force you to."
"Force me?" I replied.
"Fei, I'm doing this for your own good."
With that, Wu Luo instructed the Maid to keep an eye on me and left. Once I reached downstairs and took a few steps, the Maid called out to me, "Chen Fei." Then she quickly hushed her voice and said, "Fei, don't wander off."
As soon as she finished speaking, I turned around only to find that she had been knocked unconscious.
Then someone grabbed my hand and said, "Come with me quickly."
