Living Funeral
I asked, "Where are we going?"
He replied, "If you don't come with me, just wait to die."
I quickly followed up with, "Who are you?" Turning my head, I caught sight of a figure holding a black umbrella. I was momentarily stunned. Damn, this is... maybe I've had too much of that herbal soup, and my mind is a bit foggy.
Snapping back to reality, I cursed, "You bastard, aren't you Yang Xiu? Damn it, I've been looking for you for ages. Did you drain my blood?"
Yang Xiu said, "I don't know what you're talking about, but if you want to live, you better come with me."
I demanded, "Give me back my blood." Damn it, I grabbed his collar, but I had no strength left. He easily pried my hand away and said, "Come with me."
I cursed again, "Damn it, give me my blood." I wanted to bite him; he had my blood inside him. I thought that if I bit him, I could draw it back into myself.
I had only one thought: to survive.
At that moment, Yang Xiu said to me, "If you want to drink my blood, follow me." He ignored me and walked into the alley on the left while holding his black umbrella.
I didn't care about which way was left or right; I just chased after him, desperate for my own blood.
Without thinking much, I entered the left alley. It wasn't long—only about forty or fifty meters. I walked slowly and stumbled several times, falling to the ground but getting back up to chase after him.
Suddenly, Yang Xiu called out to me, "Hurry up! If you don't move faster, it will be too late."
After he spoke, he even cut open his own skin. When I saw the blood flowing out, it spurred me to quicken my pace. I caught up with him just as I heard footsteps behind me.
The footsteps behind were hurried, and I heard a woman's voice calling my name: "Fei! Fei! Don't go in there! You'll be doomed if you do!"
But Yang Xiu urged me on: "Don't you want to drink the blood? If you want it, hurry up!"
He kept holding onto that black umbrella without letting go. Looking at the bright red blood on his fingers and hearing the calls from behind me, I ultimately chose the fresh blood because I really didn't want any more of that herbal soup; it tasted terrible.
Finally, I stepped one foot into the left courtyard.
Yang Xiu let out a long sigh, and the woman's voice behind him continued, calling out, "Fei, come out quickly."
I turned my head to take a look. My current state was extremely poor. As I glanced back, I happened to see Wu Luo holding a bowl of medicinal soup, and I immediately felt nauseated. Damn it, I don't want to drink that soup; why is she bringing it to me?
I said, "I'm not going out. I don't want to drink that soup."
She continued to coax me to come outside, saying, "If you come out, I won't make you drink the soup."
Yang Xiu said to me, "If you go out again, you're done for. That’s not some medicinal soup; it's actually Yin Soup. She wants to turn you into a ghost."
"Yang Xiu, you Yin Person! Nonsense! Do you believe I'll make your life worse than death?"
Yang Xiu snorted coldly and replied, "Once you're out of this courtyard, maybe I'll be afraid of you, but in here, I'm not scared of you. Let me tell you, I'm not a Yin Person; I'm a Ghost Hunter from Zhongnan Mountain."
Wu Luo fell silent after Yang Xiu's retort.
After a moment, she said to me, "Fei, do you remember that night when he drained your blood and turned you into a living dead? If I hadn't saved you, you'd probably be dead by now."
I stood at the entrance of the courtyard, staring at Yang Xiu. I rubbed my eyes with my hand, trying to see more clearly and hoping to clear my mind.
"Right! Why did you drink my blood that night?" I asked.
Yang Xiu replied, "Which night?" Her tone was filled with confusion.
Wu Luo interjected, "Yang Xiu, are you trying to go against me?"
Yang Xiu responded, "I'm just doing my duty to save people."
Wu Luo snorted and continued speaking to me, "Do you remember now? It was him who drank your blood. If you listen to him again now, he'll drain your Yang Qi."
My mind was in chaos again; I had no idea whose words were true or false. It was hard to distinguish between reality and deception. I glanced at Wu Luo and thought to myself that I really didn't want to drink that soup.
I reached up and scratched my head. Yang Xiu then asked me, "Fei, was it me who drank your blood that night?"
I immediately said, "Of course it's you. You drained my blood, you want to kill me, you're not a good person."
Yang Xiu's expression changed slightly; his pale face showed a hint of color, but it was fleeting. He said, "So, did the person who harmed you use an umbrella? Answer me."
I thought for a moment and then shook my head, indicating that there was no umbrella. However, even without an umbrella, I could see that face clearly; it was definitely Yang Xiu. This bastard drank my blood and still refused to admit it.
Yang Xiu quickly replied, "That's right. Fei, let me tell you the truth: except in this courtyard where I don't need an umbrella, I have to carry this black umbrella everywhere else because it protects my essence from dissipating. The person you saw that night without an umbrella was definitely not me; it must have been someone impersonating me on behalf of Witch Sister."
Wu Luo interjected, "Yang Xiu, stop slandering."
Yang Xiu suddenly spoke seriously, "You fed him so much Yin Soup, and now you're accusing me?"
Wu Luo didn't dwell on that issue and turned to me. "Fei, Yang Xiu is not a good person either. Once you enter that courtyard, you might never come out."
I had no words.
At that moment, my phone rang again. I pulled out my phone and this time pressed the answer button, but it indicated that the battery was low. However, there was still enough power to take a call.
I barely had the strength to hold the phone.
I said hello, and a voice came from the other end—it was Zhang Pangzi. He exclaimed over the phone, "Damn it, I finally got through!"
I asked, "Damn it, where are you guys?"
Zhang Pangzi replied, "We're down by Mountain Lodge. Damn it, we fell for it this time; someone set you up. Chen Fei, listen to me: go into the left courtyard of Mountain Lodge now, but don't trust anyone inside."
I was feeling dazed and told Zhang Pangzi to hurry up.
Zhang Pangzi shouted from the other end, "Chen Fei, remember the left courtyard! Make sure to remember!"
I wanted to say more but realized my phone had already gone black from low battery. Damn it! I held the phone and called out a few times but heard no response. Cursing under my breath, I stuffed the phone into my pocket.
Zhang Pangzi had said so much that in my current state I couldn't make sense of most of it. But I did remember to go into the left courtyard.
I said to Wu Luo, "You can go. I want to stay here. I won't drink your soup anymore."
Upon hearing my words, Yang Xiu's expression softened a bit.
Wu Luo replied, "Fei, you will regret this." I ignored him and took a few steps into the courtyard.
Wu Luo continued, "Fei, I will set up a bronze cauldron in this alley. Inside the cauldron, I will place incense ash, and on top of the ash, there will be a cup filled with water. If Yang Xiu intends to harm you and you manage to escape, drinking that cup of water will save your life."
"Fei, don't listen to him. From start to finish, he has been lying to you. The one who wants your life here is her. If she truly wanted to save you, why would she give you Yin Soup and even find someone to impersonate me to drain your blood? She clearly has ulterior motives."
Wu Luo said, "Fei, I won't say much more. Just remember my last words: if he harms you, drink the water from the Bronze Cauldron."
With that, Wu Luo prepared to leave but turned back after a few steps and said to Yang Xiu, "Yang Xiu, if I fail, don't think you will succeed either."
Their conversation was quick, and I barely caught a few words.
At that moment, I felt light-headed and in a terrible state.
Yang Xiu sneered and said, "You take care!" Then she grabbed my wrist and assured me, "Don't worry; I will definitely save you."
