Living Funeral
After I overturned the table, the wind grew stronger.
Yang Xiu seemed stunned, not expecting me to return for a second time. But this time was different from the last! Yang Xiu had nothing with him now.
His silence only made me more anxious. The wind howled louder, and slowly, I heard a chilling laughter. It wasn't just one person; it sounded like many voices laughing together, and I soon pinpointed the source of that laughter.
It came from the four Paper Figures.
Damn, I was startled at that moment. Yang Xiu began to laugh as well, slowly speaking, "Didn’t expect this, did you, Fei?"
I wondered what he meant by that.
He continued, "Fei, I’ve been prepared for this all along. Did you really think overturning the table would help?"
The Paper Figures started to move. Yang Xiu said, "Fei, I originally planned to let you live a little longer, but since you didn’t cherish it, you can’t blame me."
Yang Xiu finally revealed his true nature. I asked him what he wanted.
"It's simple," he replied. "I want you dead and then I want to borrow your body." Yang Xiu's face twisted into a sinister expression. I told him I had seen through his deceit long ago.
"You figured it out early on; why did you still come in?" he taunted.
I was left speechless by his provocation.
I had truly overindulged in Yin Soup before; now I was trapped. Yang Xiu commanded the Paper Figures to attack me. The Paper Figures seemed to have gained consciousness and quickly advanced toward me.
My first instinct was, of course, to run away.
At that moment, I was in the courtyard, and my only escape route was the alley.
However, the alley was quickly blocked off. I looked at the two characters in front of me and felt relieved that I still had a chapter of the "Suppression of the Hundred Demons Diagram." Holding the Hundred Demons Diagram in my hand, I was already panting heavily. Behind me, Yang Xiu taunted, "Run! Why aren't you running?"
Yang Xiu's attitude was quite arrogant. I turned to glance at him and then at Wu Ning, who stood beside Yang Xiu, unmoving. It seemed that Wu Ning's words were also lies.
But it was good to finally know that this whole group was filled with bad people.
I took a deep breath as Yang Xiu said, "Just accept your fate. Dying at the hands of that Witch Wu Luo is worse than handing your life over to me."
I spat and cursed, "Why should I die at your hands? Yang Xiu, I didn't expect you to be such a Yin Person."
Yang Xiu replied, "It's too late for you to realize that now."
I took out the Hundred Demons Diagram to suppress two Paper Figures, but to my surprise, it had no effect at all. Yang Xiu laughed triumphantly and said, "That thing of yours is indeed good, but it's useless against my Paper Figures."
It seemed like it really was useless. I quickly realized how dire my situation was. The very thing I relied on for survival—the Hundred Demons Diagram—was ineffective. Damn it, what should I do now?
The Paper Figures reached out to grab me as I tried to run back. However, after just a few steps, Yang Xiu kicked me to the ground.
The Paper Figures quickly approached and seized me. Yang Xiu walked toward me with a mocking tone, saying, "Run! Why aren't you running anymore?" His voice dripped with sarcasm.
Damn it! If I could run, I would definitely be running right now.
Yang Xiu chuckled a few times and said, "Fei, didn't I drink your blood before? But I really didn't this time. However, I can fulfill your request now."
His twisted laughter sent chills down my spine.
We were in West San Village, surrounded by Yin Zhuang, with Ghost Village in between. Logically, I should have run to the right, but I felt that the entire West San Village was unsafe. If I were to escape, it would be safer to head towards the entrance.
I couldn't believe that the entrance was still guarded by Dead Hand.
I said to Yang Xiu, "Damn it, you talk too much. If you're going to make a move, just do it already."
Yang Xiu paused for a few seconds, then replied, "I've never seen someone so eager to die. Fine, I'll grant you that."
Damn it, I wasn't that foolish. After saying that, I shouted, "Wu Ning, weren't you supposed to save me? If you save me now, I'll believe you."
After my words fell, Wu Ning sighed.
I was taking a gamble, hoping that Wu Ning would come to my aid. Even if he didn't, my words should raise Yang Xiu's suspicions. If they ended up in conflict, it might create an opportunity for me to escape.
Wu Ning didn't act immediately. I continued, "Yang Xiu is a Yin Person; you told me that yourself."
After I spoke, Yang Xiu turned to look at Wu Ning. Wu Ning's expression was blank at that moment, but he quickly made his move. He uttered the words "Bright Flame," and then I saw a sinister shade of Youlan fire erupting from his fingertips.
The flames burst forth and ignited the Paper Figure. In the darkness of the night, the Paper Figure let out a wretched scream as Wu Ning urged me to run!
I was momentarily stunned; I couldn't believe Wu Ning was actually helping me. As the Paper Figure burned and screamed in agony, I seized the chance to escape. Wu Ning told me to keep running towards the exit. "When you reach the entrance, there’s a Death Bell. Knock on it three times and those two people you know will come up."
I didn't dare to delay any longer and ran outside, asking, "What about you?"
"Wu Ning replied, "You don't need to worry about me."
Without hesitation, I headed towards the alleyway.
Yang Xiu was already furious, shouting, "Wu Ning, how dare you betray me! You should know who kept you alive."
Wu Ning scoffed, "It certainly wasn't you."
Yang Xiu cursed, "I'll deal with you later," and started chasing after me. Naturally, I took off running. I didn't stop as I sprinted towards the outside, passing by Wu Luo's Bronze Cauldron. In my haste, I accidentally kicked it over, but I couldn't care less at that moment.
I continued running until I reached the courtyard where I had entered before. Seeing that no one was around, I opened the main gate and stepped outside.
Before leaving, I glanced around and didn't spot any Dead Hands. So, I walked out. Damn it, there were indeed no Dead Hands. However, I quickly noticed the Death Bell. Wu Ning hadn't lied to me. I approached the Death Bell and began to ring it, striking it three times in quick succession.
Looking down the cliff, I saw a path leading downward. Upon seeing this path, I dashed down without a second thought. Damn it, I wasn't foolish enough to wait for Zhang Pangzi and the others to come up. If they didn't make it, I'd be doomed.
To survive, I had to take the initiative.
With that thought in mind, my speed increased even more. However, halfway down, my expression changed.
A bright moon hung above me, casting its light down and allowing me to see clearly ahead. My breathing became rapid as I encountered another coffin blocking my way. Fortunately, there were no Dead Hands this time.
Staring at the coffin, I thought to myself how damn unlucky this was.
"Damn it," I muttered as I pushed the coffin off the cliff when I first arrived. This time, I decided to go all out and push it down again. Before doing so, I took a glance at the pattern on the coffin—it was still the emblem of Wulord. Taking a deep breath, I said, "Sorry about this!"
With that, I got to work. Perhaps my strength alone wasn't enough, as it took me quite a while to get the coffin into position. Damn it, it felt like the coffin had gotten heavier.
Just as I was about to push the coffin over the edge, a hand suddenly reached out from inside it. "What are you doing?" it asked.
Honestly, my heart sank at that moment. My hair stood on end, and my hands and feet turned cold; every cell in my body seemed to be absorbing the fear of this place. Damn, it was terrifying.
At that moment, the coffin lid pushed itself open, revealing a face—Wuluo's Father's face.
I was drenched in sweat, panting heavily, and my complexion must have been ghostly pale from fright. "I'm just going down to help you move a bit," I stammered.
After I spoke, he tightened his grip on my wrist.
"Are you really going down?" he asked.
I nodded and swallowed hard; damn it, I was scared to death.
Wuluo's Father suddenly said in a chilling tone, "Can you help me move the coffin back to its original position?"
"Damn it," I thought; I was truly frightened. Before I could respond, another voice spoke up in my stead: "No."
